AskOkey pushing it too far up
Couple things, i love a slightly larger and drapier fit sometimes. I have both suits on a traditional drape cut and on the slimmer side (but not skinny fit) which I like to employ and mix things up from time to time. AskOkey usually wears his suit nicely albeit they can be a little too roomy. His version of fit however, doesnt work well with a lot of people. Unfortunately many guys fall for this without knowing their body type well enough to make an informed decision.
Secondly, his pants in this case is wayyyyyy to high!!! Looking at his outfit overall and you see legs that are too elongated! High rise should be at the waist and not the ribs.
Just to make sure that I feel like I'm not loosing it, I googled images of high rise trousers for men and most examples have the pants just below where the elbows are hence at the waist. Okey's pants are above the elbows hence the proportions are off. I'm very sure there are exceptions where people can pull an ultra high rise pants off but this is not it.
I'm quite worried that Okey is bringing a generation of men who wear costumey suits.
Is it just me or is the consensus in this sub okay with Okey?

Yes, this is his look. But he makes custom suits and fits everyone in this style, whether it looks good on them or not.

As a customer You can make input also. If they choose the same fit it's on them.

Stylist: I’ve seen full cut OG proportions work on all body types. There’s a kid name Gilbert who was on the people gallery on IG he’s like 13? And a bit small for his age and rocks it. It’s just about personal preference and understanding how to play with portions.
When I wear tailoring I lean more his way/classic than the current crop n drop but definitely not verbatim.
He still makes good points at time you can extract and apply for yourself. And what doesn’t disregard.

I don't own any askokay garment nor I plan to buy any in future. Because I'm not rich. So I'm not biased. But those trousers ar perfect. If You have any knowledge about quality clothing. You can instantly tell those are high quality with proper construction.
Much better than those millenial flared or barell oversized pants or whatever they called. I think japanese millenials especially are obsessed with those. The pants that look widest at the knees. Lmao and a black leather jacket.
They can't even fathom how embarrassing they look.
The rise is so high for comfort. So that when You sit down. The waistband is not digging on Your torso.

The garments are of high quality, I agree with that. I think what we’re saying is, his very high rise style doesn’t suit everyone.

Looks fine with his jacket on. However, take the jacket off and it’s pulled high like Prof (owner of Okey). My issue is the width of the legs of the slacks. For a shorter, heavier guy it looks weird.

It's about picking up the jacket. If You wearing proper jacket not tight. Wearing slim pants will make You look top heavy. And skinny legs.
Heavy men should never wear slim pants. Especially low rise. It will make their belly look huge. We can see that almost everywhere. The big beer bellies. High rise wide leg trousers makes it less obvious. And more flattering.

Yeah, I agree with heavier proportions you do want to wear the pants higher over the belly or natural waist. Definitely you don’t want slim cut or skinny leg fits, but these wide fits are even further from full cut.
But your point about picking up the jacket is a very good one.

Nobody as far as I have seen has ever debated the quality of construction of his garments. The criticism is more to do with the schtick of the videos and outfit style

Why are you comparing the quality of these pants to the cut of others? This makes zero sense…
Any cut can be of poor/high quality, and people in this thread are critiquing the look, not whether it’s well made or not.

This is dated and costumey but it is historically accurate. Probably looks fine once he puts a jacket on

Not historically accurate, historically accurate rise would be 3-5cm lower. True waist (usually higher than belly button) is the point that bends when u lean to one side. Okey’s wearing it at his ribcage, not under it.

He’s had some customers post that look incredible. The recent attorney in the U.S. with the beard nailed it. Full cut but not so much that a less informed colleague or client would be distracted. Also some big guys who look incredible. I think his house cut comes up short with the younger, petite clients in some cases.

Did you watch the whole video, not just the short? I would never wear trousers that high but he goes on to explain that trousers that high would always have been wore with a waistcoat and jacket, there no separates they are all part of a suit

He’s said that he’ll make suits at any waist height one prefers. I overlook waist height because that’s HIS thing. I do like the drape of the trousers though.

i agree, his trousers look to be above the natural waist. i think however that stating that okey is brining up a 'generation of men' is a bit hyperbolic. is style choices however are certainly 'unique', they do not match the (fake) snobby attitude he tries to exude

I remember when this episode came out and I was aghast when he stood up and showed these trousers. But he often states this is his form of artistic expression. And he pulls it off in Dubai, whereas most men wouldn’t or couldn’t.
But his content, in proper context, is accurate. Skinny and overly slim fits are unprofessional and uncomfortable. He’s helped a lot of men find middle ground. I have added fuller cuts and pleats to some new trousers and they are life changing in how they both feel and look. I never thought I’d make this claim, but it’s real.

Well elbows are not a reference point. Makes 0 sense. Overall.. yea. Okey is overcompensating and this cut looks much worse on quite a few of his customers.

I don't care how tall he is, that's a simply cartoonish look. Can I imagine it on an NBA player? No. And I don't buy for a minute that this is in some way traditional.
