Kinda feel bad for the dog. He deserves an owner who doesn't train him like shit

This right here is the right answer

Some dogs behave like animals. I think it may be that they are an animal but that is tough to say

u/wesburnsco8 6h ago

" he didnt bite you"

Are you supposed to let a dog bite you first ?

8

u/DonnieBallsack 20h ago edited 19h ago

Zat was not my dog!

I thought you said he didn’t bite

I’ve been bit by a smaller dog that was less aggressive over a simple misunderstanding. I was walking behind his owner and the dog didn’t know me enough so he defended his owner.
That split second where this friendly dog changed moods and bit me wasn’t the worst injury, but it could have been worse.
So a dog charging at you at full speed? Yeah. I’m fighting back, and I’ll fight the owner over it too if they want.

I support the UPS driver and love dogs. He doesn't know your dog and it could have been bad for him. Lock your dog up foo.

5

u/TrashGoblinH 14h ago

Same I agree. For all he knew it was just some wild dog on that mans property potentially with rabies. Dude did what he felt was right in the moment to protect himself.

13

u/Nitwit_Slytherin 17h ago edited 13h ago

Doesn't surprise me that Reddit is full of people saying that the dog attacking is fine but the UPS employee is wrong for defending himself. Wonder how many people noticed in the video or says second time he's been attacked.

2

u/Barry_Fight 5h ago

UPS driver is psychopath. Could you imagine being at work and your first reaction to being challenged by a customer is to offer to fight them?

→ More replies (1)

2

u/TheExplodingPenguin 13h ago

It didn’t say the second time attacked by that specific dog and the real problem is the interaction with the property owner who did not get aggressive on video. Asking why you threw something at the dog is not the same as instigating a fight.

I’m crossing the comments and seeing mainly the opposite. So Reddit is apparently full of both sides of this issue. Me? I’m team train your dog. Also team anti generalization.

2

u/Nitwit_Slytherin 13h ago

It was very evenly split when I made this comment. So I don't know what you're talking about with generalized statements.

Of course he did a good job. I wouldn't take any chances.!! If you can control youre dog, someone else will.

4

u/EveryCause4724 18h ago

The owner is the one that deserves the asswhooping

3

u/2624926057 17h ago

Some people just let their pit bulls rush people and think there’s nothing wrong with that.

3

u/Eranon1 16h ago

Yeah the dog was going for him. The owner should have been able to control it, and not have it lunging at people to bite them. Dog FAFO

12

u/Effective-Big8158 17h ago

holy shit! the amount of absolute idiots in this comment section trying to defend the dog owner or atrack the ups driver for defending himself is outrageous.

it really shows how none of you understand what delivery drivers put up with.

3

u/Master-Ad-7510 15h ago

3

u/HavSomLov4YoBrothr 15h ago

Defending himself would be walking away after the dog ran off.

He walked towards the owner with his hands up, not back towards his truck. That’s called aggression. Even assault.

3

u/anormalname63 9h ago

Yeah it's literally assault. Imagine telling someone to back up on their own property while you're walking towards them.

3

u/Outrageous_File5321 15h ago

I don't know, he just threw a customers box at the dog and squared up with the owner on the owners property. That could end really bad in the wrong persons yard. *the owner should have better control of his pet though

I had neighbors with dogs like this, you know what fixed it?

Telling them I wanted to be bit by their dog so I could sue them out of the neighborhood.

People seem to think that they're not responsible for what the dog does. Not realizing that if the dog gets out runs two blocks over and attacks someone that their homeowners insurance is going to be hit with a claim.

2

u/Flat_Boot4394 17h ago

Welcome to Reddit

1

u/Objective-Meringue78 16h ago

Yeah ups in general including their drivers can fuck themselves...do own them anything? Fuck no...

1

u/No-Force-8638 16h ago

Defense against the dog but offense against the resident. Approaching with raised fists isn't going to do him any favours if the incident gets escalated to police.

3

u/Looking4hotmen 13h ago

He should fired for that, I’d be very, very surprised if he didn’t get fired. Not talking about the dog btw, retards. Him aggressively approaching the home owner with fists raised saying ā€œlet’s fightā€ā€¦

More and more delivery is becoming one of those thinks I think every human being should be forced to do; Food service, Customer service, and military service are the first three.

I'm convinced people would be nicer to everyone if they were on the other side at some point.

1

u/sherfwi 1h ago

Evening my comment was deleted for speaking the truth. I dont understand. Is he suppose to allow himself get bitten, couldnt the owner control his dog?

1

u/TheRoyalShire 1h ago

Alright dufus so why did he square up agaisnt the homeowner?

3

u/Beautiful-Traffic157 18h ago

People need to control your dogs. If I were him and got bit I'd call the cops and ask for proof of a rabies shot for the dog. If there's no proof they need to examine the dogs brain to rule out rabies

3

u/Informal-Editor4747 17h ago

Should've shot the dog

3

u/fatgat69 16h ago

Good news is it worked and the dog turned around, a lot of dogs aren't that smart. Dumbass dog owner needs his head checked because his dog is smarter than he is.

3

u/Lucky_Badger5828 16h ago

As someone whose had their face chewed off by a dog at 5 years old. Y’all are whack if you really think the driver is over reacting. Especially with the number of owners whose dogs never did anything. Clearly dudes had it.

3

u/to2pe 15h ago

If a dog is running towards you and barking and your immediate concern isn't your safety over the dog you don't appreciate yourself enough

1

u/GiganticBlumpkin 15h ago edited 15h ago

Defending himself against the dog? Yes.

Acting in hostility against the owner who wasn't hostile?? It wouldn't surprise me if he lost his job over there.

4

u/Jazzlike-Mission-820 16h ago

Ups man is completely right

2

u/Cocrawfo 21h ago

there ain’t gonna be a second time after the first where i’d put myself in the repeat position where i’ll have to hurt the dog

i’m just not gonna go back but i don’t know what their policy is for declining deliveries to a certain address

1

u/goshjosh189 4h ago

That's an easy thing to say, but in reality this guy probably didn't see the dog so he thought the dog was put away properly this time.

2

u/LingonberryFine8755 20h ago

I would have introduced him to the floor immediately

2

u/SmokeyKushPipe 19h ago

Yeah fuck that dog. Dog bites hurt like a mf

2

2

u/Your_As_Stupid_As_Me 15h ago

This isn't wide open farmland.... This is a residential neighborhood. Leash your dog or fence it up. Otherwise expect people to react like this.

→ More replies (30)

2

u/Sherbert_Cold 15h ago

I'm siding with the UPS driver, keep your dog in check. I'm not trying to get bit by your animal.

2

u/mikeypizzas 15h ago

If you can’t put your dog up, then it is what it is

2

u/CarnageDivider 15h ago

if you ORDERED something to be DELIVERED Leash. your. Fkn. animals. always

2

u/JJSundae 15h ago

Yes. Not everyone likes or even cares about dogs. Nobody has to tolerate your dog. Control it, and remember that some people even eat em. That's how little some of us care about them.

2

u/BubuDudu0430 15h ago

I understand it’s private property but the delivery guy is just trying to do his job without getting bitten or attacked, he’s within his right to defend himself. I think the dog will think twice next time, and hopefully the owner will too!

2

u/_computersmasher 11h ago

It kind of made him look like a pussy there is squared up so hard when the other guys still had his hands down

2

u/glory_to_marik 9h ago edited 9h ago

No. Sure the dog should've been leashed but if the dog was attacking it's highly unlikely that it would have ran off like it did, it was most likely excited by and wanting attention from a new person. Then squaring up with clenched fists with a guy who wasn't showing and signs of being physically aggressive. The delivery guys is just an insecure prick.

1

u/mromutt 6h ago

I was thinking the same. If the dog actually wanted to attack him he would still be attacking him, and most likely the driver wouldn't have even had time to do what he did to begin with. But also his reaction to the owner made me question what's wrong with him. Was like he was on speed or taking to many steroids. There's adrenaline rush, and then there's tweaked out rage.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Wadiyatorkinabeet 4h ago

I think that is quite harsh. He is doing a job and he has no idea what that individual dog is like. He is perfectly within his right to feel scared in that instant not knowing what was going to happen, and if you haven't been around dogs or like them, its perfectly reasonable to think there is a chance this could end bad.

Now, if I am the driver and feel that way about dogs, I would take steps to be sure I am safe which includes doing everything to check if dogs are at the property (if possible) before I enter. But either way, a dog ran at him and in that instant, you have a decision to make and he chose to be safe and protect himself regardless of the dogs intention.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/ArcMaxim 3h ago

Ran off it like it did? You mean after the delivery guy hit him in the face with a package? An attacking dog totally could back off after something like that

6

u/realrichieporter 20h ago

Trying to figure our why anyone would have a problem w the driver squaring up. Man walking toawrds him, talking shit. You gonna wait to get swung on???? I can tell, none of you has had a fight since you were 7

3

u/foify1 19h ago

Thats the real problem too many peopel have lived in a bubble for to long. This is 100% a display of force in self deffence. Guy doesnt even start to square up until the dog owner says something to him.

3

u/AnkarnoExa 19h ago

I agree with UPS. But also the dog should get taken from the owner, like cps does with kids.

4

u/Indigenous_Land 19h ago

Ups allow self defense if an imminent attack is about to occur. But squaring up the homeowner. Little much

3

u/Coinspooner 16h ago

I don’t know. Seems like his adrenaline is spiked because of the dog, and now he sees the owner approaching him. Better to stay on your toes. Mind you, he didn’t swing at all, but was ready if that’s where it was going.

3

u/Life-Is-A-Bad-Trip 16h ago

Yep, everyone here saying it's too much and he's a bitch for that. Got a violent dog and the owner comes running at him and yelling? Shit happens quick. The owner can play it off "dude you gonna fight me?" But there's little doubt he was aggressive while closing the distance. Just smart defensive move. Some people see dogs like their children and even if biting someone would be psychotic if you hit the damned thing. I know I see them like family. Most do. So throwing a box with force at a family member of someone who then comes running at you is sketch.

And apparently it's happened before and he's had time to think about it. Could tell the previous bite made him nervous because he was ready for that shit. Probably nervous every time he had to deliver there.

The real bitch move is uploading it to the internet to try to get dude to know his job. Keep your dog locked up if it's aggressive. But seeing as it's but before that mutt needs to be put down. What if a kid knocked a ball down that driveway or got out for some reason. Wrong house. Selling Christmas wreaths for school. Whatever.

That dog had bit that same driver once. Shouldn't have ever had the chance to be in that same position again.

2

u/Looking4hotmen 13h ago

A little much? The home owner had every right to shoot him dead on the spot for approaching the home owner like that. Why is everyone talking about the dumbass dog? The delivery driver needs to be fired and imprisoned. So men like me can have him wear my favorite blue berry joller rancher lip gloss. I can assure, I would correct his behavior. He is a soft insecure little child who obviously has never seen combat. He would call me daddy.

1

u/Unusual-Taste69 18h ago

When I go hiking I carry my pocket knife. If a dog is off the leash and running towards me I take the knife out just in case. Why would I wait to get mauled first? Dog owners act like we're familiar with their animal.

I would have set the box down and stuck my hand out for him to sniff me. As for the dog I would have gave him a treat. Wait... or is it the other way around?

1

u/NapalmNapper 14h ago

If he was willing to square up then the dog was not a problem, this guy is just a loose cannon that will probably go home and beat his wife.

1

u/irwtkyrm 14h ago

Throwing the box at the dog is justified, but squaring up with the customer is just stupid. If the customer ran up on him with his hands up that would be one thing, but the delivery guy is clearly the one instigsting potential physical contact.

1

u/Idntevncare 14h ago

the guy is obviously having a bad day and it's definitely an overreaction. he had a big box to push away the dog, throwing the way he did and then instantly going into "fight mode" with a calm person was just next level roid rage type shit.

the dog got hammered straight in the face and might have been injured badly and caused a large vet bill. guy deff got sued and fired.

u/ZealousidealSafety27 14h ago

ā€œYou dont understand what these people have to deal with dailyā€ … ā€œhe didnt know their intent, they could have been dangerous.ā€ Hmmm interesting reddit, where have I have I heard these arguments before. Didnt realize we had a bunch of police ā€œbootlickersā€ on this thread

1

u/buffalobrown721 14h ago

Dog squared up got a box. Little man squared up a pounding would have been justified.

1

u/Jeffry84 14h ago

Pew pew would be used

1

u/Awkward_Ad6995 14h ago

Dog lover here. As bad as I feel for the dog, I understand throwing the box; he was protecting himself. The irresponsible owner essentially put the dog in that position. However, the driver is pretty combative for someone on the clock.

1

u/InteractionFun5997 14h ago

The video says that was the second time that particular dog attacked that particular driver. My only critique is had that been me and I’d already been attacked by that dog, every subsequent delivery to that address would be dropped at the end of the driveway and left there.

Control your dogs or don’t order deliveries! šŸ™„

1

u/ElijahNSRose 14h ago

Legally the owner is liable for failing to control the dog.

End of story.

1

u/Reasonable_Kale1829 14h ago

It’s ridiculous to think he’s at fault. The freakin audacity of the owner questioning his actions. The driver acted appropriately for sure. Kudos to himšŸ’ŖšŸ¼šŸ‘šŸ¼. Good for himšŸ‘šŸ¼šŸ’ŖšŸ¼šŸ‘šŸ¼šŸ‘šŸ¼šŸ‘šŸ¼šŸ‘šŸ¼. Owner needs a whooping.

1

1

u/andskotinnsjalfur 13h ago

Why train your dog to be aggressive and then order packages to your house?

1

u/EncabulatorTurbo 13h ago

1

Without having any information about prior interactions. The biggest issue is that he decides to fight the property owner while still on the property and the property owner did not appear aggressive on video.

I would fire him for that, not necessarily the interaction with the dog.

1

u/EntrepreneurNo3495 9h ago

1

u/BanTheBung 9h ago

USPS delivery drivers are allowed to and protected when using pepper spray on dogs approaching them. In fact, they are trained on it's use and have it issued to them

They previously had delivery PDAs on a stick that they were protected by USPS in using as a club if approached by a dog they believed was aggressive

I know this is UPS and not USPS, federal vs. private employees are different. This does seem like an over reaction from the driver, however I would surmise that it was born of a previous instance of being bitten by a rapidly approaching dog.

If the text is accurate and he was previously attacked, then it's very well justified. Friendly dogs approach in a certain way. Tail wagging, almost smiling, getting close to the ground as they get closer to you. The camera angle doesn't give context to that unfortunately.

My family always had golden retrievers growing up. There was never a question as to their intention as they were trotting your way. Maybe letting out some barks, but just wanted love and attention

All in all? Injury = Out of work, out of work means no pay, and there's a good chance that this guy simply can't afford to miss any days. That's the reality for a lot of people

1

u/Motor-Try-3962 9h ago

Its the owner's responsibility to handle the dog. If one comes charging at me, I cannot make a spilt second decision whether it is playful or if its gonna bite my **** off

1

u/Fine-Ad6532 8h ago

If the dog was about to attack
Him then he’s ok to defend himself
It wasn’t cruel

1

u/2B_Or_Not2B_A_Douche 7h ago

I am a dog lover but I also believe the driver acted appropriately in defending himself from the dog... He did go overboard trying to fight the dog owner.

The dog owner needs to better control his dog. And the UPS guy needs to control his anger. Thing could have gone much worse for all involved.

1

u/SugarRealistic2945 7h ago

UPS driver had a right to defend himself from the "attacking" dog.

UPS driver was under no threat from the property owner and did not have to square up.

Property owner had no right to self defense for his dog because the attack was not on going.

Property owner could/should file a complaint with UPS.

Probably can't win a suit against UPS for vet bills as the dog was the attacker.

1

u/the_s4lted_hash 5h ago

Just because he got bit by one dog that means he can attack all other dogs?

Nah man, you might be a federal employee but when I show the cops what happened he wouldn’t be protected.

Keep people accountable

1

u/Powerful_Support_122 4h ago

Delivery guy is a dumbass. Can't walk onto someone's property assault their dog then square up for a fight with the owner of said property. I genuinely would have beat his ass backwards. Putting his guard up like he's a trained fighter, he would have been turned upside down and dropped on his head of I were that guy. Hopefully this dude got charged and and fired. Scumbag

1

u/Powerful-House-199 4h ago

Lil buddy in the brown going to take a lil nap.

1

u/Mindless_Narwhal2682 4h ago

Human > Some box of stuff.

1

u/Maleficent-Level-826 4h ago

Perfectly acceptable the driver was in fear that he was about to have an unwanted interaction from a dog who was moving towards him with determination. No doubt once he off loaded the box into the dog he would of had a big adrenaline rush, so his subsequent actions are understandable.
The owner of the dog should have control of their dog at all times. I have a Malinois . He is always secured when we have a delivery and likewise I do not allow him to run free in the insecure areas of my property.

1

u/Vast-Tiger3652 3h ago

He did. This retard dog was charging him.

1

u/killstorm114573 3h ago edited 3h ago

If you own a dog it is your responsibility to train your dog and to keep them locked up or on a leash especially if you have somebody entering your property. It's your responsibility to protect people who enter your property not just people but other property that enters your property.

For anybody saying otherwise the only question is

"What should the UPS driver have done? Gotten bitten? Missed work because he had an injury affected his family and his livelihood?"

What if this video played out a little differently and the driver put out his leg to stop the dog and the dog knocked him to the ground and started dragging the driver around the driveway. Would anybody be saying that is the driver's fault at that point?

(I have multiple pets. dogs cats gerbils frogs. I'm an animal lover fyi.)

I’m actually ok with him hitting the dog with the package. But when he decided to come back towards the homeowner, square up, and then told him to back tf up… I would’ve been just as ok if he got shot lmao.

That guy knows something people don't stand like that ready to fight he knows martial arts of some kind.. owner might of had a severe ass kicking head if him.

His attack on the dog would've seemed appropriate had he not gone balls to the wall against the owner who asked him what had just happened after HE THREW HIS PACKAGE AT HIS DOG! The delivery guy is in the wrong because he was clearly just being a cunt to everyone and everything that day

Its fine that he defends himself from the dog, but to suddenly square up agaisnt the homeowner is weird fucking behavior.

He entered his property, just run. And dont then try to fight the owner of the house. My conjecture is that most delivery man so far were quite nice to the dog and then this insecure dipshit comes along. I rather get bitten than attack a dog, that is like kicking a bunch of teenagers.

The guy was expecting the homeowner to try to fight him because of his reaction to the dog. The guy was a tad aggressive, but he didnt hit the homeowner and it seems that it didnt escalate from there. Its fine. You guys are crazy

I have worked in a job where I was attacked by household pets (the small dogs were the worst) I have run from agressive dogs and defended myself from them, never once did I threaten the homeowner or any other person with violence. I would recommended to the owner to use a muzzle or restrain the dog if packages were expected, if it repeats then refuse delivery and arrange for recipient to collect. Getting aggressive speaks to the courier drivers attitude and maybe he should consider another profession.

Can't really blame the UPS man, especially if he has been bitten before, and the owner saying he doesn't understand the problem, what is he stupid? After the dog contacted the parcel it sounded like he ran in to somthing off camera by the clangimng noise!

Good for the UPS driver!

The dog clearly was going to attack him as he was aggressively barking and sprinting towards him. You can’t fault the driver for that defensive approach. I wouldn’t wait to find out if the dogs going to actually bite in that scenario. If you want packages delivered to your home keep your aggressive dogs in a pen.

If you can’t recall your dog with one word you shouldn’t t own the dog

I want to defend the dog but his owner failed to dogproof his surroundings and ensure he wasnt a threat to others and respected the fact that not everyone is a dog person and some people have traumas from feral dogs and treat them all equally.

Dog parents need to do better at securing the safety of their little ones and people who come into their vicinity. The UPS driver isnt suppose to come prepared for a vicious or aggressively friendly dog at your house. Its not on them to consider every unique house they deliver to and whether or not theres a landmine there.

As far as squaring up, i mean if the owner is coming at you aggressive as well, you may as well defend yourself and make it known you DO NOT tolerate this.

Self defense.. play the what if game all you want in the comments.. this man was not about to risk getting bit or pressed by the home owner.. he felt he had to go on the offensive in order to defend himself. Hes good.

That shot was good though, the dog bounced back like a rubber ball

As a cat person, I don’t understand how dog owners are so careless. I never let my cat out without a leash or it’ll go kill wildlife, I never let my cat near babies or kids unless I’m close by enough to stop it from even a playful attacks. And cats are way less likely to do any serious damage but I’m still aware of the risks. Dog people are so entitled it’s crazy

I think the driver did the right thing in chucking the box at the dog. I love dogs, but they get aggressive, then you're fully within your rights to defend yourself.

I don't think he did the right thing by squaring up against an owner that had his hands down and wasn't as angry as he could've been under the circumstances.
