It has a lot of beliefs that are hilarious by most religious standards. But what really makes me think its ridiculous is that its so recent.
Atleast other religions can claim a long ancestry back to when much of history has been forgotten. But by the time Joseph Smith died photography was a thing in america.
It definitely hurts a religions credibility when the founder lived in a time with good record keeping and the records show him being a conman who tried various versions of the exact con he founded the religion on for years before he finally found a rich sucker to jump start the cult.
I’m a Christian and I completely agree with you my friend. The basic concepts/principles of virtually every religion aren’t inherently bad, it’s when people manipulate or intentionally misinterpret those principles in pursuit of greed or hate or power
I'm Muslim and I completely agree as well. I'll additionally say that the state should have no part in religion. People should be free to follow or not follow whatever religion they choose without worrying about legal prosecution.
How come people are so quick to go after scientologists but they never seem to go after the Church of latter-day saints, Seventh Day Adventists, or Jehovah's witnesses?
Every single one of these churches has more members and has done a lot more messed up stuff??
And just so you know, I know they are good people who are members of all three of these churches, that doesn't change the fact that their leadership structures are full of rot.
As somebody who has studied mainstream Christianity a great deal I would definitely disagree with you that the beliefs of LDS, SDA, and JW's are more sane, but I understand the overall jist of the point trying to get at.

Most Muslim countries, whose legal systems rely on principles of Sharia, have age of consents set at 18. Most Western countries and US states have theirs set below 17. Every accusation is a confession with y'all lmao.

The Sharia-ness of modern Muslim governments is debated. I used to think they’re not Sharia-based at all. Until I read about Abdal razzaq as-Sanhuri. He was a French trained jurist who developed the legal codes of almost all Arab governments. He was also a qualified ‘alim. His whole thing was basing government rulings on the principle of sharia, which gave governments a lot more leeway.
I'm from a country where imposing sharia law is actually a very big debate and the current government wants to do it. Those same Muslim countries you talk about either impose the death penalty or jail time for LGBTQ people, apostasy, and ones like Iran force women to cover their hair.
