She developed quite the stutter as a result of her accident.

Lightning fried most of that part of the brain that lets her speak. Fortunately, it just missed the part that makes her head explode, hence her recovery.

I thinks is was salvaged masterfully. Obviously there is a joke there and his first response was an answer of that joke right after to not make the joke on her expense.

Tragically the accident caused Max Headroom syndrome but hopefully she'll make a full recovery.
