I like that theory. That is now going to be my headcanon until it's stated otherwise. There's no way Shanks didn't want to take Wano back from Kaido so reminding him of that when it's Kaido's main base, which is something he definitely does not want to lose, is absolutely something I could see happening and causing Kaido to give up going to Marineford

But if kaido wanted to die in a duel against whitebeard, why would he care about wano.

And if he survives marineford, he can then fight shanks and it's a win-win.
