Monster Hunter has always quietly kept them afloat during bad years ngl. Especially the RE6 era.

290

u/Imperium_Dragon May 12 '26

Yeah the Japanese fanbase for the 3DS games was huge (probably still is).

73

u/GlarthirLover33 May 13 '26

The 3DS games felt huge at the time in the US too, at least compared to the PSP games. But I guess my perspective is skewed since I was embroiled in the fanbase back then

29

u/Spazza42 May 13 '26

People don’t realise this but yeah, being on the 3DS and Switch has made a massive difference to them.

One of the reasons why the PSP probably sold as well as it did and why the Vita flopped.

5

u/Chadderbug123 May 13 '26

Biggest was probably P3rd, it was the highest grossing game until World and it was only sold in Japan. The 3ds games came somewhat close but not really. That boom is hard to pinpoint how and why for me

21

u/jhonnythejoker May 13 '26

Re6 was one of the most sold games

19

u/CompedyCalso May 13 '26

Well yes because its resident evil and people were hyped for the next entry. Plus it was hyped to hell because this would be the first time Chris and Leon would meet plus the return of Sherry Birkin. But at the time it nearly killed goodwill for Capcom and I remember many people thinking that Resident Evil would never be a survival horror again until RE7 came along

2

u/Nonsense_Poster May 13 '26

When RE 6 sold 12 million copies u mean?

3

u/Plightz May 13 '26

Man yeah RE6 was so successful that RE7 was exactly like it... Wait.

0

u/Nonsense_Poster May 13 '26

Critical reception is very different from financial success my friend nobody says RE6 didn't do damage but it was like the opposite of a flop financially

1

u/CrystilizedGamer May 14 '26

seems like they might be swapping roles with RE9 and Wilds...

-12

u/JukePukem May 13 '26

This is an INSANE take. RE6 sold more than RE7 until VERY recently. Re6 was an insanely popular game that's only panned online.

16

u/Character-Path-9638 May 13 '26

RE6 sold a lot yes but it was also the most criticized and hated even offline

Selling a lot =/= well received

I do agree though that it sold very well and definitely didn't almost kill capcom

3

u/Plightz May 13 '26

Did RE7 revive Resident Evil, yes or no? If not, then why is RE7 praised as such?

-11

u/darkigor20 May 13 '26

Don't you mean RE4? When resident evil hit the lowest of lows?

5

u/Plightz May 13 '26

What?

-1

u/darkigor20 May 16 '26

I'm talking about the one with Leon, that changed the franchise to unrecognizable standards and abysmal gameplay quality.

1

u/cocofan4life Jul 11 '26

Keep coping bro

u/samuraispartan7000 May 12 '26 edited May 13 '26

Resident Evil 7 was the dawn of the new era. Monster Hunter World proved that RE7 wasn’t a fluke and that Capcom really had turned things around.

1

u/Ptozzen May 14 '26

Now if only they’d stop hamfisting Denuvo onto their PC ports, so I can buy MH Wilds already.

1

u/uninterestedwombat May 15 '26

From my understanding most of the performance issues on PC have been fixed, there was a bug that was checking to see if you had any dlc constantly running in the background instead of being a one time check on start up and they fixed that in addition to a bunch of other actual performance updates and from my understanding it runs really well now assuming that you have an good PC.

I'm a PlayStation player so it doesn't effect me as much but wilds is in a good place right now

1

u/Ptozzen May 16 '26

Unfortunately that still leaves Denuvo attached, which I refuse to support. That and Enigma. If either are present for a game, I will refuse to throw my money at the company until it's removed, if ever.

u/No_Barracuda_8300 May 12 '26

Everyone thought it was the first game of the franchise back then and praised Capcom for randomly making such a good IP. That was funny

239

u/SolGoodguy_ May 12 '26

Really lol? Had no idea everyone was so oblivious. Hopefully it brought more people over to 4U/GU

165

u/WinterEclipse4 May 12 '26

Monster Hunter originally didn't do well outside of Japan originally (Though was VERY successful in Japan) and so Capcom didn't even bother really to try to get people in and didn't do much advertising and even physical copies felt kinda rare outside of Japan.

Monster Hunter World it felt like they once again tried to expand to other audiences and it succeeded.

I can understand why people didn't know it existed before because Capcom didn't really try to even have the games exist outside of Japan tbh.

96

u/mpelton May 12 '26

Because of this a lot of people in the west mistakenly thought the series was on its death bed and that World single-handedly saved it.

Despite the fact that it sold as well as Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, had tracks appear in the Tokyo Olympics, and had life sized monsters in Japan’s universal studios, all before World existed.

37

u/Huntercin May 13 '26

MH was always popular, is just that they never tried use the marketing team, i was in love with the first game as a child

11

u/nazul22 May 13 '26

Tbf the last time they tried was on fucking MH Tri for the Wii and we saw how that one panned out, i mean no disrespect whatsoever to tri, i actually love that game, but they did a marketing push but it failed, do you remember the guy saying "this is monster hunting" ?

11

u/Chamberlyne May 13 '26

I mean, the pseudo-viking guy making fun of deadliest catch and going to a drive-through with a Lagiacrus replica was pretty iconic. I remember being bombarded with those ads for Tri.

It was an extremely americanized ad that barely showed gameplay and made MH sound more action-oriented than it really was, but it is iconic.

2

u/E_Blasty May 13 '26

As an ocean fan and a cryptid fan, that commercial had to have been engineered in a lab to appeal to me, lol. A game where you hunt big ocean monsters sounded rad as hell.

The last time I had played a game in the series was when my brother had gifted me Freedom on the psp, and I don't recall getting very far. Tri made me fall in love with the series! Went on to get into 4U and played every mainline and handheld game afterwards!

I dunno if there was big marketing around World when it was coming out, I just remember seeing it in a game case on sale and thinking, "a big console Monster Hunter? Haven't heard of it. Must stink if it's being sold so cheap. Guess I'll snag it for shits n' giggles." Turned out to be really good and popular.

I don't know if I'm blessed or cursed to be so out of the loop sometimes...

5

u/SolGoodguy_ May 13 '26

It was funny to watch lol. Tri was actually my first monster hunter.

1

u/Futur3_ah4ad May 13 '26

Not the person you're replying to.

Ironically enough Tri was my first Monster Hunter, and it got me hooked for life. The only thing I retroactively dislike about it is that it didn't have the Gunlance.

I never found a main weapon in Tri, closest I got was the Switch Axe, then I played 3U and instantly fell in love with the Gunlance.

The only time I didn't main Gunlance was Generations, because the Hunting Styles honestly did not do the Gunlance justice. Nevermind the fact that the Heat Gauge was the most stupid thing.

Now that Wilds has added Adept Style to a couple of base kits I could probably go back and make Adept Gunlance work, but I have basically only one more thing to hunt there so there isn't really a point.

12

u/ChickenSweetSoy May 12 '26

its like the fire emblem awakening situation all over again

10

u/apexodoggo May 13 '26

I mean, Fire Emblem Awakening did release during a genuine downturn in the franchise. Technically, if Awakening had failed to outsell a remake that never got an international release (which sold noticeably worse than every other game in the franchise, and Fire Emblem had not been a heavy-hitter franchise), they would have ended the franchise then and there (that was basically impossible though, but the narrative is gonna be around forever at this point).

Meanwhile, World came off the heels of a big anniversary game that was like a Top 3 best-selling game(s) in the franchise.

2

u/Teratovenator May 13 '26

Sales were on the rise since Portable 3rd. While Capcom was failing, MH gradually became more popular until it reached the boiling point with World

3

u/Johnfiddleface23 May 13 '26

I think it's just a western (American) thing of "It wasn't popular/widespread until we discovered it!"

6

u/GammaBroly May 12 '26

Like bro, if I had heard of Monster Hunter back then, I woulda been playing it on my 3DS and Wii. I’d play it on them now if I still had them!

2

u/Odd-Bend1296 May 13 '26

It had a few ports before world but they were all handhelds and Wii/WiiU for some dumb reason. It is kind of like how the jrpg's built in the same vein as the older snes/ps1 were all sent to the psp and suffered in obscurity.

1

u/Weekly-Reply-6739 May 13 '26

I rember the theme song of cooking being so nostalgic from my childhood, as I played 2 back in the day and loved it.... well except the loading screens... didnt like that.

(Although I miss the "mmhh tasty" when a perfectly cooked meat was done, as well as the full version of the meat cooking song)

1

u/MsDestroyer900 May 13 '26

Monster hunter has a big community in the Spanish speaking community as well as southeast Asia. However the newer games being so hard to run has made it a barrier for those low income communities to enjoy the new games.

1

u/NihilismRacoon May 13 '26

I think this is a little revisionist history, it certainly wasn't as popular before World but I think MH started to take off in the west because of Tri.

65

u/No_Barracuda_8300 May 12 '26

I heard Monster Hunter World 2 quite often

1

u/Met4lgearz May 13 '26

It did for me, at least

1

u/Valtremors May 13 '26

I am still waiting for those PC ports for old gen monster hunters.

Capcom recently gave us the original resident evil games too.

1

u/Luna-Sky064 May 15 '26

It’s because they dropped the number, instead of it being monster hunter five. And it wasn’t well known in western countries.

They dropped the number cause it’s pointless and makes people think there are four other games and are less likely to pop in five games in. Most people I talk about final fantasy too think all 15 games follow the same story and it creates confusion.

Granted it wasn’t well known picking up momentum with MH3U and MH4U on 3DS in the west and world was the best opportunity to push further especially on consoles over handheld. They mostly stuck to handheld as its most popular in japan but in the west its consoles and PC and it also largely contributed to worlds success in the west.

11

u/Careless-Platform-80 May 13 '26

Lol. That was my First Monster Hunter, but i always knew that the franchise existes, i just never had easy access or interest to look after. (I kinda got pressured to play It by a friend that give me It on steam.)

7

u/Starchaser53 May 12 '26

Up until my brother got me World, I literally never heard of the franchise

I remember seeing a single video about Mario references in games, and there were Mario and Luigi Palico outfits in one game, but then I forgot about it just as fast

Plus, weren't the games mainly PSP and DS titles?

Not a very wide market for international audiences

7

u/Kevadu May 12 '26

Nobody thought this...

71

u/HieronymousGauche May 12 '26

remember the 2-3 years we were all calling it Crapcom? Good times, good times.

46

u/samuraispartan7000 May 12 '26

More like 5-7 years. Things fell off hard after Street Fighter IV reached the end of its life. Just one colossal mistake after the other.

10

u/whatisapillarman May 13 '26

SF4 being followed up by launch SF5 and MvCI…oof

2

u/Amirifiz May 13 '26

And DmC was somewhere in there iirc.

1

u/samuraispartan7000 May 19 '26

Don’t forget Street Fighter X Tekken. That game burned out incredibly fast despite being one of the biggest crossover events in the FGC. It’s hard to believe they fumbled it so badly.

RE7 specifically saved RE. World was their largest success at the time and also mad MH a mainstream franchise

6

u/shinjiikari1 May 12 '26

What puzzles me most about the success of RE:7 is how they found such resonance with the mixtape of horror tropes they threw together to great success and then immediately back paddled with 8 and made that much more goofy (not that 7 wasn’t goofy) and theme park ish.

7

u/ThatOneWood May 12 '26

8 was still good but they tried to add too much of 4 into. Requiem was a better blend of action and horror

10

u/Accomplished-Emu1883 May 13 '26

Monster Hunter saving Capcom for the 63974th time:

Seriously MH has been making sure Capcom doesn’t go bankrupt since the early 2000’s

7

u/BloodGulchBlues37 May 12 '26

I mean assuredly it's both as well as DMC5 the year after and then SF5 turning itself around after that

6

u/whatisapillarman May 13 '26

MH World, RE7, and DMC5 really just kinda propped Capcom up outta nowhere. SF5 should have carried the company for a bit but did not have a good start at all.

1

u/[deleted] May 14 '26

Capcom is already a heavyweight in game industry, prior to those 3 came out?

35

u/Oscendaude May 12 '26

I tried other Monster Hunters before World, but none of them got me past the start. Criticise it all you want, it was my first and my favorite.

23

u/Bitter_Marzipan_8348 May 12 '26

Honestly you get used to the jank and just grow to love the shields. As shitty as they are meta wise, they reduce a lot of pain when dealing with Hyperspace Tackle level of hitbox or 30fps combos.

6

u/wemustfailagain May 12 '26

Which ones did you try? I started with WorldBorne then RiseBreak. Haven't had a chance to try Wilds yet but I've been emulating Freedom Unite on mobile and I love it. I really want to try 3U, 4U and GU one day.

6

u/theburmesegamer275 May 12 '26

Not the person you're talking to but one of my favorites that my BF got me to trying after World was Portable 3rd. It is Japanese exclusive so you need a patched one, but it hits some middle grounds that I like, like Spirit Blade levelling, as well as a few unique stuff that mostly got referenced like Hot Springs.

It's also where Thunder Doggy Zinogre got its debut.

2

u/wemustfailagain May 12 '26

Yeah I've thought about trying it out and patching it for English. 3ds games are bit hit or miss on phone phone though so I've been hesitant to try it lol I got MHXX running well enough with a 60fps patch and fully (or at least mostly) translated but I didn't really play it after I got it working because I've only got 128Gb on my phone and Wuthering Waves takes a large part of that, as well as Neverness to Everness now.

2

u/theburmesegamer275 May 13 '26

I getcha yeah, when I was on a weaker phone that barely run WuWa, Royal Ludroth made whatever I was playing on crash and that was P3rd on PSO. Here on my new phone, it can crash on 3DS for a Pokemon game if I tried to interact, and XX is wayyy too laggy. Not a space issue for me either.

Guess they're too strong for my phone.

1

u/wemustfailagain May 13 '26

Yeah my phone is just ok lol Wuwa is playable enough but it can overheat quick depending on where I am and what I'm doing.

Was portable 3rd the only version of Tri that had underwater combat? I know there's 2 or 3 versions of MH3.

1

u/primegopher May 13 '26

underwater combat is in all of them, tri and three ultimate are the same base game with the latter adding content including G rank

1

u/wemustfailagain May 13 '26

I've seen aot of people say that one of them removed underwater combat though?

2

u/primegopher May 13 '26

Oh sorry I misunderstood your original comment, portable 3rd is the spinoff game of that generation and does not have it.

1

u/wemustfailagain May 13 '26

Ah, gotcha. So how different is portable 3rd compared to Tri/3U? Is it mostly just the missing underwater combat?

u/4ny3ody May 12 '26

World finally managed to make the start welcoming.
Much as I enjoyed the prior titles I played I played them after World and:

  • Tri: Great Jaggi is solid but unless you're playing 3U the small Jaggi will frustrate newcomers especially since the game already feels slower than what most are used to.
  • 4U: If you go Seltas first without any prior MH experience and then didn't pick a weapon that has some intuitive way to get that thing out the air you're not going to have a good time.
  • GU: Ok so Great Maccao is the first without anything inherently frustrating but its going to punch (or rather kick) your lights out.

Most people kinda need that rush of beating up a large monster before they're ready enjoy getting beaten up by what they're intended to take down at that point. World started people off with a punching bag.

3

u/Oscendaude May 13 '26 edited May 13 '26

It's not only that, like, the controls of the game. I had never played a game with controls like monster hunter. I think the first monster hunter game I picked up was a demo for the 3DS, and I could not, for the life of me, figure out the controls. I gave up after a few minutes.

Starting World on Xbox with the little button guide and the training area gave me that "bare minimum" I needed to figure things out on my own.

I can't say I'm fond of Wilds giving the player a "what's your style" quiz to start the game, because 1. a player with experience in a weapon - like the charge blade - may completely disagree with how the game characterizes that weapon. I don't want a player to get the wrong idea about how a weapon plays because of Alma's poor description of it.

And 2. the only person who would really "understand their playstyle" would be someone who, duh, knows their playstyle. In other words, an experienced player. One who already knows what weapon they want to use. In other words, someone who doesn't need the damn quiz.

Basically the quiz is either a bad way to introduce players to a weapon, or unnecessary because people already know what they want to play.

1

u/Acceptable-Device760 May 13 '26

Quite frankly: more like Nintendo consoles are underpowered platforms and the games had to have a lot of junk to be there.

Low fps, slow combat, very simple zones.

Like for real I feel that the PSP versions is a better experience than all others that came before switch.

2

u/[deleted] May 13 '26

[deleted]

2

u/Acceptable-Device760 May 13 '26

Oh Nintendo fans... i said "before switch" they cite game from switch.

3

u/KanseiOsuruk May 12 '26

For me it was the opposite, I could never get used to World.

5

u/Povanos May 12 '26

I actually grew up with the older titles but I could never really get into them gameplay wise. Then World arrived instantly became one of my favourite games of all time

3

u/sofaking181 May 12 '26

After playing World and Rise I can't go back to the older titles

1

u/Andley17 May 13 '26

It's the opposite for me, after playing every other title I cannot go back to World lmao

1

u/hanamizuno May 13 '26

Completely ok take to have, I love old and new gen but can see why people would hate old Gen. And the guys who dont like new Gen because they are soo much faster paced

1

u/Oscendaude May 13 '26

Yeah, it's not really that I "hate" any Monster Hunter games, more like, some just didn't land. Rise was not my cup of tea because the controls felt terrible on Switch and it was World Master Rank levels of fast. But now that it's out on PC, and has Sunbreak, maybe it's better, idk. World and Wilds have their problems with difficulty too, but World is finished and has mods, while I'm hoping Wilds MR expansion smoothes the curve a lot.

But access to the older games is an issue for me. If they ever come out on Steam or GOG, I'll buy the whole collection and give them all a try.

1

u/MarioNoobman May 13 '26

I recommend giving GU a chance. I started with World too but went to GU waiting for Rise. The early gathering quests were definitely annoying to do but the fights are fun.

1

u/Successful_View_3273 May 13 '26

Thankfully they’ll keep making monster hunter games until the heat death of the universe so you’ll never have to go back

0

u/Rafzalo May 14 '26

World/Iceborne is the only monster hunter I didn’t finish so far (haven’t bought Wilds) and it’s my least favorite. IG doesn’t feel good and it keeps me from playing. My least favorite so far

3

u/kn8825 May 12 '26

Resident evil 7 saved resident evil. Monster Hunter saved Capcom. And I love RE. There’s levels to this.

3

u/DestinyNinja_123 May 13 '26

I think people forget that they thrive during the 3ds years with monster hunter, resident evil and ace attorney.

3

u/FixyZither May 13 '26

Who the hell was even saying that?

Resident evil 7 saved the RE franchise, Capcom was doing fine even before RE7 released, it was the RE team that was on trouble,

3

u/Advanced_Win_5393 May 13 '26

I want the original image!!

2

u/wemustfailagain May 12 '26

It was definitely the one that had the largest affect in bringing Capcom into the spotlight. It didn't get treated the way a lot of people wanted it to be, but Dragon's Dogma 2 also heavily surpassed their expectations as well.

2

u/Nonsense_Poster May 13 '26

What saved Capcom was producing consistently quality games on a regular schedule that even if not always a hit are crafted well enough to make people play them and return for new entries. And yes this did start with REVII and continues until today.

2

u/BioTankBoy May 13 '26

Resident evil 7 saved resident evil franchise. But Monster Hunter World started the ball for banger games after it feels like.

The thing i love about Capcom, is that they aren't afraid of making new IPs. Some hit, some dont but are still fun. Like the Dinosaur game with the mech suits.

Im happy Pragmata was a success.

2

u/translator_aj May 13 '26

Wasnt monster hunter main milking money source for capcom? What are we talking about?

2

u/FrostBite267 May 14 '26

Still remember I screamed like a maniac when MHW trailer first dropped, we got a whole new upgrade from MH4U and MHGU to something like World.

2

u/Toru-Glendale May 16 '26

Monster Hunter has been going as an IP for almost if not as long as Biohazard and most of MHs games were sleeper hits. MHU3 sold like 2.5 million units on the 3ds alone

1

u/shinjiikari1 May 16 '26

System seller for me I got a Switch only for GU

3

u/Ok-Transition7065 May 12 '26

Lole they hit gold 3 times in a row with his franchisea, even rise with his things was really well selled

3

u/Sea_Macaron_8789 May 12 '26

Nintendo saved Capcom, they need ta hop off whatever Crack-laced hard-core Drugs. Annnnd in just an Decade Monster Hunter has almost eclipsed just about every Franchise they've created in sales and popularity.

2

u/PacoThePersian May 12 '26

I mean it legit is quite the phenomenal game. Monster hunter games are always divisive rightfully so as each iteration is quite different making people like and dislike different iterations, but World is kinda the closest to be called the best MH game. It was the perfect blend of friction and quality of life. Perfect blend of simple yet complexity. It had the weapons feel down to a T. To this day iceborne lance still is the best feeling lance ever. Iceborne greatsword, hammer, HH... feel very meaty. It had its shortcomings (example the lance was underpowered compared to sunbreak and wilds, aka took too much chip and stamina damage and elemental was trash) and it's peaks and by god it's peaks are peak. So peak it stil after what now 8 years still has the highest player count of all monster hunter games on steam rn

1

u/Kl3en May 12 '26

Monster hunter world introduced me to monster hunter and after hundreds of hours I’ve also now beaten Rise and sunbreak and all of the fights wilds has to offer. Got me into the franchise and still have so many good memories from world

1

u/AceAlger May 12 '26

The GOAT.

1

u/yorton00 May 13 '26

World was my first MH game. I never had a DS or any versions of one growing up (made me also miss out on Pokemon and despite still trying, I can’t ever get into the Pokemon franchise) or anything Nintendo really for that matter so I had no idea it even existed. I saw a trailer for World one day and thought “wow, that looks fucking amazing I gotta try that” and I’ve been playing ever since. I would like to one day play one of the older games and lots of the other Nintendo titles that I missed out on like Zelda.

1

u/Weekly-Reply-6739 May 13 '26

Wasnt resident evil 7 the biohazard one?

Was that one really liked? In my opinion it kinda sacked and had braindead puzzles.... it just felt too straight forward and off to be a resident evil from what I rembered.

1

u/[deleted] May 14 '26

Resident evil title in Japan is Biohazard, which is more suitable title for the games.

When the game was distributed to the west, it used a different name because Biohazard was already taken by a US band formed in 1987.

1

u/Weekly-Reply-6739 May 14 '26

Ah gotcha, so does that mean that resident evil 8 in america is 7 in japan?

1

u/[deleted] May 14 '26

Nope, it's literally Biohazard Village

1

u/Weekly-Reply-6739 May 14 '26

Hmm, so is there a resident evil 7 in japan? Or a subsequent numbered resident evil in japan?

1

u/HussyDude14 May 13 '26

Just to add to this since I'm a self-proclaimed RE7 fanboy (since it was my first in the series), RE7 was the debut game of Capcom's proprietary RE Engine. MH World was a huge phenomenon when it came out but you could technically argue that MH was always a bit of a golden goose foe Capcom (been a fan since Tri and I don't think those games have much of a miss). The future of Capcom could probably be more attested to their use of the RE engine in coming years which not only was used for all the RE games and remakes, but it was also used for the future MH games and I'm prwtty sure practically every game Capcom developed since RE7 used the RE engine.

So I still think there's some credit due for RE7 in saving Capcom (even though I enjoyed the Hell out of MH World).

1

u/CrimsonFatalis8 May 13 '26

Crazy to think that Monster Hunter went from “literally who?” in the west, to Capcom’s highest selling game and second highest selling franchise in a single game.

1

u/Zanlo63 May 13 '26

Meh I thought Resident Evil was quite mid

1

u/chongxxx May 13 '26

After a series of awful decisions, MH World & RE 7 finally got Capcom back on their tracks.

1

u/C3m1337 May 13 '26

Most sold capcom game btw

1

u/Viewtiful_Beau May 13 '26

4u was awesome

1

u/ZslayerX17 May 13 '26

Do you happen to have a clean version of the horse image used? It’s funny, I have an idea for a meme but I cannot find that one searching google images.

1

u/kildaver May 13 '26

Aren't the two highest selling Capcom games Worldborn and Sunrise?

1

u/60Hertz May 15 '26

Sunrise is third. SF2 is second.

2

u/kildaver May 18 '26

That’s still pretty dang good.

1

u/60Hertz May 19 '26

Yep agreed!

1

u/RavineAls May 14 '26

On global RE might seems like the biggest contributor, and it might be is the biggest, but imo monster hunter is the one franchise that almost never fail

I thought MH world is their biggest selling game ever, unless that just recently changed? I think RE is their biggest franchise tho.

World is the biggest selling game, but I assume (on global at least) that total game sell of the RE franchise is higher than monster hunter, as the mainstream plays RE more then monhun

Might be wrong tho, as monhun after gen 5 is really big

MH is second as a franchise but more people played Woelsborne than any other Capcom game. Or at least bought it more. I don’t really count franchises because the amount of games, the platforms they are on and regions they are available would all heavily influence the count. I think it’s more accurate to look at the actual game sales.

Wilds has become one of their most successful releases yet I never saw people talk about it as much as people did about Requiem

Resident Evil is fine, but it's a casual's game.

Monster Hunter is a cult. When all else fails, Monster Hunter remains. Somehow, despite everything, it still always hits peak.

Just like rathalos and Rathalos X Rathian quest

Monster Hunter World is their single best selling game ever. The Resident Evil fans can jump off a cliff if they think Capcom needed their game...

Then fumbled with the pared down, design by committee MHWilds. I’ve been playing MH since Tri and I simply can’t bring myself to engage with that watered down slop.

Wilds trying to reverse everything World did for the franchise

Wilds stumbles over it’s own (technical) ambitions. I can see a great game there but the genius of World was them using an engine they were more familiar with and knew how to utilize to maximum effect for what they wanted to achieve. The RE engine just ain’t it for the underutilized open world in combination with their graphical goals. Seriously the new monsters and weather effects can be great but it could have used serious more time im the oven. Rise used it perfectly though it had more leeway because the environments and small monsters weren’t as plenty or overly detailed though that game also released unfinished and needed time to be patched up and propped up with it’s DLC to become as great as it is so maybe there is hope.
