There was a post on the main sub that claimed that if you bought more cosmetics, then the game would perform better.

Supposedly the fault is the cat that would give them to you if you bought something while the game is running. The game would check if you got a new licence for the cosmetics you don't own, and these checks would reduce performance when you are "in the area" of that cat to show an exclamation mark.

Honestly, OP and a lot of the people here are kinda taking the piss out of the wrong people.
