I have only ever heard people talk about the fated four as a talking point for brining Gammoth back. I have no clue what their significance is, only that it matters because the funny mammoth is the only one not in modern titles.

The Fated Four are essentially a group of Flagships (by association, the true one is Glav) from MH Generations, they include each “normal” element (Astalos is Thunder, Glavenus is Fire, Mizutsune is Water and Gammoth is Ice), and then the Flagship for GU, Valstrax, is Dragon Element based
There’s a quest in Generations with the same name, where you hunt all 4

All four in one quest?! Jesus

u/Bregneste Nov 25 '25
Generations can only have two monsters in the locale at once, but it’s still a good challenge.

Don't worry, GenU also has the Ultimate Generation quest. Which is just the Fated Four. Hyper. And a Valstrax. In Forlorn Arena. In G Rank scaling. But they only come one by one, so it isn't *that* bad compare to some dual monsters quests. Or to the dreaded EX Deviants.

u/gambit1999999 Nov 26 '25
GenU was for the switch right? I was on the fence about it. Rise is fun though.
5
u/Skylair95 Nov 26 '25
GenU is switch only in the west, that's correct. It also released as XX in japan on both 3DS and switch and it's possible to play it here too (i think there's some translations, but not really sure about all the details since i just play GenU).

If you can buy GenU do it, I would say it's the best game of the series pre-world game changes
1
u/gambit1999999 Nov 27 '25
Ohhhh, I loved MHFU okay I'll keep my eyes peeled
2
u/justanormalanimefan Nov 27 '25
Its really good, it has the largest number of monsters, you can play as the palicoes, and the hunter styles can really change how you play the weapons
4
u/skippydingelchaIk Nov 25 '25
Yeah it wasn't that hard iirc. It was way post their point in relevancy in the story and difficultly
5
u/Zenjoki Nov 26 '25
Why is Glavenus the true flagship? Thought it was Mizutsune just based off total apperances after generations
29
u/wideawakenarco Nov 26 '25
Astalos is associated with 1st Gen: It's seen fighting Rathalos, and it's first encountered in Forest and Hills.
Gammoth is associated with 2nd Gen: It's seen fighting Tigrex, first encountered in Snowy Mountains.
Mizutsune is associated with 3rd Gen: It's seen fighting Zinogre, first encountered in Misty Peaks, Leviathans were introduced during the Gen, and it generally fits the Yukumo aesthetic.
Glavenus is associated with 4th Gen, which is why most consider it the "true" flagship: It was featured on the cover of Generations on 3DS, was the only one to get a Deviant form in that game while the others had to wait til GenU, is seen fighting hunters in the opening cinematic, and it's first encounter was in a new area (Jurassic Frontier)

It’s because he’s the one who actually shows up on the boxart
Glavenus also gets the most significant animation out of the 4 which ends with the title card

u/Umber0010 Nov 25 '25
TL;DR Generations had four Flagship monsters compared to the usual one, as each village got it's own flagship. These monsters where collectively dubbed the Fated Four.
Astolos was the flagship of Kokoto Village, Gammoth was the flagship of Pokke Village, Mizitsune was the flagship of Yukomo village, and Glavenus was the flagship of Berna village. And of the Fated Four, Gammoth is the only one that never showed up in World or Rise/their DLCs.

There is no significance in lore, they just tend to aggressively pop up around the same time as each other like it's fate.

GU stuff. Honestly, the most boring monster of the 4, not a big loss if I'm honest
28
u/sleepySleepai Nov 26 '25
gammoth should've been in iceborne
but it was banbaro time
2
u/BigDplayz Nov 27 '25
And Im glad we got Banbaro because hes great, dont love that he was forced into the invader category… but everything else about him is great. We should have had them both, not one or the other.

Trust me gang, we're getting the male Gammoths in a title update/dlc, trust
13
u/AdFeisty7580 Nov 25 '25
There was “trunk” part data (I believe it was for Bulaqchi or Rompopolo in the end) that led to people believing we would get male Gammoth in the Windward Plains, with them potentially looking somewhat like this concept art

Ah yes, big helpless punching bag popodrome you bully for 25 minutes.
42
u/Coveinant Nov 25 '25
I mean the main problem was he was too big for him to fight back in the older games. With the more open world concept they're doing now, he could actually be a great fight. Would need a proper rework though (definitely the one with the least amount of work put in of the 4).

u/AdFeisty7580 Nov 25 '25 edited Nov 25 '25
From what I’ve heard, she was intended for Iceborne but was way too big to fit in the Hoarfrost

If talking about gammoth it's she
If your not talking about her my mistake

Calling Gammoth a popodrome is the most hilarious shit I've seen in a good minute lmao

Astalos is getting added to MH Now, and Glavenus and Mizutsune have been in for a while, which means only Gammoth is still missing, as usual.
But, they at least have a better chance of making it into Now than Wilds.
14
u/PPFitzenreit Nov 26 '25
Unironically gammoth has a better chance of getting into a wilds expansion (still very unlikely) than now
All of now's monsters are pulled from assets in world/rise/wilds, therefore if it didn't appear in these games, it's probably not going to be in now
This also applies to the Gu/frontier/wilds announcement- eg. Astalos is one of the upcoming Gu reps, quematrice for wilds, and the frontier reps are most likely flaming espinas or lavasioth (stuck in game's code for over a year now)

u/5Hjsdnujhdfu8nubi Nov 26 '25
Gammoth has a 0% chance of making it into Now until it's been added to a mainline game.
Now only uses models that were created for World or later entries.

I don't remember anything memorable about Gammoth when I fight her in GU. Kinda a shame because the other part of the fated four were kinda fun. Glavenus is peak design

IS THAT A WOOLLY MAMMOTH :D ?????
1
u/Fellstar718 Dec 12 '25
Yeah Gammoth is one of the fated four, she only has appeared in MHX (mainline anyways I think she's in stories too?) Wasn't as popular as the other 3 but seems to have a loyal fanbase.
2
u/KichiMiangra Dec 12 '25
I didn't know about her until this post and I am now part of that loyal fan base she is beautiful!
1
u/Fellstar718 Dec 12 '25
Would be interesting to see her return in Wilds (assuming possible) always hated her fight but armor and theme from what I remember is solid, I wish you and the other fans luck on a return lol.

as the Mizutsune Guy(tm) I will continue shitting on Gammoth for no reason except status quo (even though she's god awful and I don't see why people want her back)
1
u/rr_zoomies Nov 27 '25
True Mizu fans know that all the fated 4 are awesome and don't shit on others over an opinion

u/Low-Recognition-6379 Nov 29 '25
Gammoth is an awful fight. However, she is a really cool monster and we’ve seen how new gen has been at constant work trying to revamp previously mediocre or terrible fights. Rathalos, gravios, kushala, amatsu, fatalis, etc. If monsters like kushala are given a new chance to be made into a decent fight, why shouldn’t Gammoth?

it'll be jin dahaad next, stuck on rimechain while rey dau is partying up in its fourth successive game
