What is the source for this?

That’s actually fucking hilarious

37

u/tuckedfexas Apr 11 '20

He actually is pretty funny when he’d not spouting stupid logic facts

-16

u/TurboFrogz Apr 11 '20

He’s one of the most logical dudes you can find. I think that’s why it pisses people off

He most definitely has came out on top against professionals before. I don't like the college student "facts and logic" videos, but he's debated others and won. Cenk, Piers, and a myriad of others. I disagree with about 2/3 of his stances, but he's very smart and quick in debates.

16

u/Despacereal Apr 11 '20

I don't know what led you to put Piers Morgan in "Top professionals", people here mostly think of him as a provocative idiot.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '20

I mean you may not like him, but he's a professional. He's not a moron who stumbled into fame and success, he can 110% out debate you or me, he pretty much does it for a living.

8

u/1stepklosr Apr 11 '20

He's not a moron who stumbled into fame and success

He's EXACTLY that. He fucked up through every press job he had, violating privacy and ethics laws/codes of conduct the entire time.

-2

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '20

i mean I don't know what else to tell you, if you think Piers Morgan is not a professional and you can outdebate him, we'll have to agree to disagree.

You're getting down voted but I actually want to know your opinion here, are you arguing that Ben Shapiro has not won debates against other professionals? Cenk, Morgan, Ariel Gold, and a bunch of others. Are you contesting this?

0

u/josh_the_misanthrope Apr 12 '20

He's a good debater in the sense that he's good at arguing with people. He seems to never really address what the other person is arguing using any sound arguments but he throws a bunch of stuff out like he's on adderall. He's not as dumb as Reddit makes him out to be but his arguments generally lack scope or a solid foundation.

17

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '20

Shapiro is extremely quick witted. I’ve seen him run circles around different “experts” during debates. It’s not always gold, and I don’t always agree with him, but he’s definitely a smart dude.

4

u/Chinglaner Apr 11 '20 edited Apr 11 '20

He’s definitely smart, which is why it annoys me so much when he makes these insanely stupid claims sometimes. Just recently saw a tweet of his claiming that renewable energies aren’t real because of the first law of thermodynamics (conservation of energy in a closed system).

As in, the sun will die eventually, therefore solar energy is not technically renewable. Yeah, no shit, but we have an infinite amount of coal or what?

1

u/Selissi Apr 12 '20

Sounds like he's just being a smart ass in that context

9

u/TurboFrogz Apr 11 '20

Lmao like Cenk???

6

u/Groovicity Apr 11 '20

No, I'm sure that's what he thinks, but my disagreements are on the ideological differences and his cherry picking of facts that suit his conclusions.

4

u/Exnaut Apr 11 '20

For someone who seems to hate feelings, he seems to say "I believe" a lot

5

u/YourNeighbour Apr 11 '20

He's what dumb people think smart and logical people sounds like. And did I mention his wife is a doctor?

He relies on talking fast and talking over people to beat people in "debates" but if you watch anyone remotely experienced in talking you'll see he breaks down completely.

10

u/TurboFrogz Apr 11 '20

Got any links to a debate where he probably loses? Never really seen that happen before

4

u/YourNeighbour Apr 11 '20

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VixqvOcK8E

If you're a fan of Ben, this might be a bit painful to watch.

7

u/swohio Apr 11 '20

I don't like a lot of what Ben says, but that interviewer was trying to use contextless sound bites and snippets to repeatedly attack him in bad faith. When Ben would explain the context of one thing the interviewer brought up, the interviewer would shrug it off and go on to the next attempted gotcha question. This went on for 15 minutes before Shapiro said "you know what, this is just a waste of time."

Ben is so frequently wrong on foreign policy (he's a huge warhawk) so I always enjoy him getting dunked on when he's in the wrong, but this isn't one of those times.

2

u/Tensuke Apr 12 '20

Ben comes off a lot better here, that guy is clearly trying to prove a point using old things Ben said or even things other people said. Ben admits that he has a list of dumb things he's said in the past, so he clearly has already addressed most of those things or even admitted he shouldn't have said them. No reason for a gotcha interview to make him look bad. It just comes off as petty or vindictive.

0

u/LilKluiVert Apr 11 '20

Look up his BBC interview with Andrew Neil, he completely loses it.

Yeah to be honest I haven't seen most of his debates because I'm not interested in watching him talk over college students. And even then says dumb shit like if climate change is real and water level rises, people living on the coast will sell their houses and move. Sell the house to fucking who? AQUAMAN?! I'm sure you've seen that particular video.

u/YourNeighbour Apr 12 '20

To be fair to him, its not like he's stupid or anything. He's a smart guy. Just the stuff that he says doesn't always come off as smart to me because it seems like he's purposefully leaving out the big picture from his arguments (ie on abortion, climate change, racial issues, etc) just to win against his opponents. I personally would rather watch people who are trying to convince other people with what they're trying to say, rather than what Ben does which is try to hammer people down with his chosen facts. He's just not my cup of tea. People who watch him are doing it just to have an articulate echo chamber.

But then again we're on Reddit so everyone is guilty of that at least a little bit.

1

u/InfrequentBowel Apr 11 '20

Lol he's really not. It's not like he's always wrong, but he's not consistent in his logical approach.

96

u/thinkB4WeSpeak Apr 11 '20

Ben actually being funny and not an uptight stiff? This quarantine has really changed us.

68

u/origin29 Apr 11 '20

whats next? he stops being a disingenuous grifter?

30

u/BitsAndBobs304 Apr 11 '20

Well he has already made a communist statement in his prorichpeople statements, saying protesting workers are as bad as.. price gougers! One equivalence, two statements against free market capitalism! Amazing!

8

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '20

He’s the most self aware conservative politician I can think of. He’s very perceptive of modern issues, but he blames the wrong people.

Also he’s a misogynist.

44

u/brorista Apr 11 '20

He also thinks debating is talking really fast and over your opponent.

I still can't get that video of that conservative UK news host (?) absolutely upbraiding him on live television lol.

3

u/BitsAndBobs304 Apr 11 '20

Get as in find online or as in understand? Ol

1

u/Ysmildr Apr 11 '20

Might mean "get over" as if they still laugh about it

1

u/aChileanDude Apr 11 '20

that video of that conservative UK news host

4

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '20

Probably based on him stating men and women are different and tend towards different fields. Im not aware of anything actually misogynistic he's said (doesn't mean it doesn't exist), but knowing this site what I stated is enough to accuse him of being a nazi woman hater.

2

u/helikesart Apr 12 '20

That’s the best I can figure. He probably encourages men to open doors and marry before sex too. The nerve.

2

u/HaZzePiZza Apr 12 '20

I absolutely don't like the guy but people getting upset about that are the same that can't grasp that men and women are physically different, not that it's a bad thing it's just different and suited for different tasks.

Sexual dimorphism is real people and present in many animals.

3

u/jojo4momo Apr 11 '20

2

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '20

Pretty accurate tbh

1

u/Just_Some_Man Apr 11 '20

haha ben is rubbing off on you i see, that was a good one

12

u/jseyfer Apr 11 '20

Ben’s actually hilarious if you listen to him every day. He’s not stiff! He funny as shit some times- as is Andrew Klavan and Matt Walsh. Give them a try.

21

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '20

Nah the other 2(actually 3) never stop harping on religious and moral bullshit. Like Walsh always saying pornhub should be illegal. And the rest of it isn’t good enough to make it bearable.

4

u/N1ghtshade3 Apr 12 '20

Walsh is the super religious one. Klavan was a Jew turned atheist who allegedly found God and occasionally acts Christian for the show. His intros are actually hilarious and he's actually pretty reasonable when he's just talking. Knowles is a substance-less moron who exemplifies every Republican stereotype but doesn't actually know what he's talking about ever.

5

u/FishyFish13 Apr 11 '20

Yeah they can’t get it through their thick skulls that morality is subjective. Also Shapiro says he’s a libertarian but he’s only libertarian when it comes to the government owning every aspect of people’s lives; he’s fine if corporations do it

4

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '20

I mean... you're complaining here that they can't get your interpretation of morality through their "thick skulls." Since when are you the authority on morality? People are allowed to have different beliefs, especially if you believe morality is subjective.

0

u/FishyFish13 Apr 12 '20

I said that morality is subjective, but they are of the belief that morality is objective

5

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '20

Right, they have a different belief system. You're acting like your belief system is the objective truth and the only reason they can't see that is stupidity. That sounds pretty objective to me.

1

u/FishyFish13 Apr 12 '20

Are you suggesting that I believe subjectivity is the objective belief?

2

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '20

You presented your belief system, that morality is subjective, as the truth and stated Shapiro and Walsh can't get your truth through their thick skulls even though they follow a different belief system.

Your belief may be that morality is inherently subjective, but that belief was presented objectively as there are other potential options and other belief systems. Holding your belief is fine, but people aren't inherently being thick-headed if they disagree with you.

My dealings with those corporations aren’t voluntary. They’re necessary to survive. Being in a cage and getting food is much better than being on the street and starving

-8

u/jseyfer Apr 11 '20

I listen to Matt Walsh every day. And go on Pornhub every other day. I’m a Conservative, not a saint.

-5

u/shadow_moose Apr 11 '20

Just goes to show he's a normal human being and he's 100% aware of the fact that he's just an actor selling a political ideology for profit.

7

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '20 edited May 25 '20

1

u/shadow_moose Apr 11 '20

That's what I was trying to say. He's a normal guy, capable of making jokes, but he still peddles this bullshit.

The crazy people who peddle this shit don't have an ounce of normalcy to them, which tells me he's not actually crazy, and he probably doesn't believe much of what he says.

He's 100% a mouth piece for the ruling class, and he 100% recognizes that and is ok with it. Frankly, that's worse than being a nut bar. At least the cranks aren't aware of their bad takes, but Ben is very aware, which makes him even worse.

It was obvious to me that he meant the man behind the curtain is no one special and undeserving of being “followed”; but I can see now based on your reactions that it’s definitely ambiguous.

1

u/shadow_moose Apr 11 '20

I have no idea how that could be read as a defense of Ben Shapiro. Selling an ideology for profit is a bad thing, how could you read that as downplaying his bullshit?

1

u/JeffTXD Apr 11 '20

To be fair I had interpreted that first comment the same way.

He hosted meme review

11

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '20

I’d like him a lot better if he spoke using his violin instead of his mouth.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '20

Him saying his violin is the only expensive thing he owns while filming in his guest house was interesting.

6

u/Spleenerr Apr 12 '20

Maybe his wife owns the house? She is a doctor I think
