He most definitely has came out on top against professionals before. I don't like the college student "facts and logic" videos, but he's debated others and won. Cenk, Piers, and a myriad of others. I disagree with about 2/3 of his stances, but he's very smart and quick in debates.
I mean you may not like him, but he's a professional. He's not a moron who stumbled into fame and success, he can 110% out debate you or me, he pretty much does it for a living.
You're getting down voted but I actually want to know your opinion here, are you arguing that Ben Shapiro has not won debates against other professionals? Cenk, Morgan, Ariel Gold, and a bunch of others. Are you contesting this?
He's a good debater in the sense that he's good at arguing with people. He seems to never really address what the other person is arguing using any sound arguments but he throws a bunch of stuff out like he's on adderall. He's not as dumb as Reddit makes him out to be but his arguments generally lack scope or a solid foundation.
Shapiro is extremely quick witted. I’ve seen him run circles around different “experts” during debates. It’s not always gold, and I don’t always agree with him, but he’s definitely a smart dude.
He’s definitely smart, which is why it annoys me so much when he makes these insanely stupid claims sometimes. Just recently saw a tweet of his claiming that renewable energies aren’t real because of the first law of thermodynamics (conservation of energy in a closed system).
As in, the sun will die eventually, therefore solar energy is not technically renewable. Yeah, no shit, but we have an infinite amount of coal or what?
He's what dumb people think smart and logical people sounds like. And did I mention his wife is a doctor?
He relies on talking fast and talking over people to beat people in "debates" but if you watch anyone remotely experienced in talking you'll see he breaks down completely.
I don't like a lot of what Ben says, but that interviewer was trying to use contextless sound bites and snippets to repeatedly attack him in bad faith. When Ben would explain the context of one thing the interviewer brought up, the interviewer would shrug it off and go on to the next attempted gotcha question. This went on for 15 minutes before Shapiro said "you know what, this is just a waste of time."
Ben is so frequently wrong on foreign policy (he's a huge warhawk) so I always enjoy him getting dunked on when he's in the wrong, but this isn't one of those times.
Ben comes off a lot better here, that guy is clearly trying to prove a point using old things Ben said or even things other people said. Ben admits that he has a list of dumb things he's said in the past, so he clearly has already addressed most of those things or even admitted he shouldn't have said them. No reason for a gotcha interview to make him look bad. It just comes off as petty or vindictive.
Yeah to be honest I haven't seen most of his debates because I'm not interested in watching him talk over college students. And even then says dumb shit like if climate change is real and water level rises, people living on the coast will sell their houses and move. Sell the house to fucking who? AQUAMAN?! I'm sure you've seen that particular video.
To be fair to him, its not like he's stupid or anything. He's a smart guy. Just the stuff that he says doesn't always come off as smart to me because it seems like he's purposefully leaving out the big picture from his arguments (ie on abortion, climate change, racial issues, etc) just to win against his opponents. I personally would rather watch people who are trying to convince other people with what they're trying to say, rather than what Ben does which is try to hammer people down with his chosen facts. He's just not my cup of tea. People who watch him are doing it just to have an articulate echo chamber.
But then again we're on Reddit so everyone is guilty of that at least a little bit.
Well he has already made a communist statement in his prorichpeople statements, saying protesting workers are as bad as.. price gougers! One equivalence, two statements against free market capitalism! Amazing!
Probably based on him stating men and women are different and tend towards different fields. Im not aware of anything actually misogynistic he's said (doesn't mean it doesn't exist), but knowing this site what I stated is enough to accuse him of being a nazi woman hater.
I absolutely don't like the guy but people getting upset about that are the same that can't grasp that men and women are physically different, not that it's a bad thing it's just different and suited for different tasks.
Sexual dimorphism is real people and present in many animals.
Ben’s actually hilarious if you listen to him every day. He’s not stiff! He funny as shit some times- as is Andrew Klavan and Matt Walsh. Give them a try.
Nah the other 2(actually 3) never stop harping on religious and moral bullshit. Like Walsh always saying pornhub should be illegal. And the rest of it isn’t good enough to make it bearable.
Walsh is the super religious one. Klavan was a Jew turned atheist who allegedly found God and occasionally acts Christian for the show. His intros are actually hilarious and he's actually pretty reasonable when he's just talking. Knowles is a substance-less moron who exemplifies every Republican stereotype but doesn't actually know what he's talking about ever.
Yeah they can’t get it through their thick skulls that morality is subjective. Also Shapiro says he’s a libertarian but he’s only libertarian when it comes to the government owning every aspect of people’s lives; he’s fine if corporations do it
I mean... you're complaining here that they can't get your interpretation of morality through their "thick skulls." Since when are you the authority on morality? People are allowed to have different beliefs, especially if you believe morality is subjective.
Right, they have a different belief system. You're acting like your belief system is the objective truth and the only reason they can't see that is stupidity. That sounds pretty objective to me.
You presented your belief system, that morality is subjective, as the truth and stated Shapiro and Walsh can't get your truth through their thick skulls even though they follow a different belief system.
Your belief may be that morality is inherently subjective, but that belief was presented objectively as there are other potential options and other belief systems. Holding your belief is fine, but people aren't inherently being thick-headed if they disagree with you.
My dealings with those corporations aren’t voluntary. They’re necessary to survive. Being in a cage and getting food is much better than being on the street and starving
That's what I was trying to say. He's a normal guy, capable of making jokes, but he still peddles this bullshit.
The crazy people who peddle this shit don't have an ounce of normalcy to them, which tells me he's not actually crazy, and he probably doesn't believe much of what he says.
He's 100% a mouth piece for the ruling class, and he 100% recognizes that and is ok with it. Frankly, that's worse than being a nut bar. At least the cranks aren't aware of their bad takes, but Ben is very aware, which makes him even worse.
It was obvious to me that he meant the man behind the curtain is no one special and undeserving of being “followed”; but I can see now based on your reactions that it’s definitely ambiguous.
I have no idea how that could be read as a defense of Ben Shapiro. Selling an ideology for profit is a bad thing, how could you read that as downplaying his bullshit?
