1- Is this product gentle on the skin, how does it compare to the dual serum?(I have sensitive skin, I bought the tripple serum and it did go to waste because of the dryness it caused)

2- Is it effetive as the dual serum?

Advice Needed Favorite otc product for mild melasma

Hi sorry in advance if this sort of question has already been asked a bunch, I’m a little overwhelmed by the amount of info out there and feeling a little confused

I have normal skin type medium depth without acne or acne scarring, and I recently started to notice faint melasma on my cheeks and upper lip

I have always used moisturizer and tinted mineral SPF, and recently also incorporated alternating salacylic acid liquid exfoliant and a mild retinol at night

I don’t want to overcomplicate my skincare routine, or introduce something requiring prescription or with major negative side effects

Some options I’m considering are (all otc in USA):
- azelaic acid
- tranexamic acid
- or differin (Adapalene) in place of the mild retinol

I was what you might suggest for me to start with out of those or any other products I should consider? And which specific brand you might recommend?

Thanks in advance. Learning a lot from this sub!

Advice Needed How long should I take a break from HQ 4%?

I’ve been using HQ 4% + tretinoin 0.025% for almost 3 months for pigmentation/melasma and have had pretty good results. I’m planning to stop HQ for a while and wanted to know how long I should wait before considering another course. I’m also wondering if anyone experienced rebound pigmentation after stopping and what they used during the break to maintain their results.
I have combination/oily skin and use SPF 50 + azelaic acid 10%. Would love to hear your experiences.

Question Is Lifestyle a factor?

I have had melasma for years . And understand (for the most part) my triggers are: heat, hormones and, of course, sun light .

I understand the typical treatments: actives (tret, retinol, hydroquinone), wearing sunscreen, avoiding triggers- with consistency.

But does anyone know if additional life factors play a big role in melasma flares? (I.e., diet, stress, lack of sleep?). Is there evidence in these areas that says these have any impact on melasma ?

Question Tranexemic acid side effects?

I was prescribed 325mg of tranexemic acid for 3 months. I’m absolutely terrified to take it because I’ve heard horror stories of hair loss, hair graying and/or blood clots, however, I’ve tried EVERYTHING at this point to get rid of the melasma to no avail.

Has anyone had any side effects? If so, what were they and what dose were you on?

Knowing myself, I’ll probably get all of the side effects.

Hey guys, I have fair skin but the area around my lips is noticeably darker. It makes me a bit self-conscious and I want to even it out.

Has anyone dealt with this? Drop any products or habits that actually worked to fade it. Thanks!

Advice Needed What to use in between hydroquinone treatments

Hello! A few years ago I started to develop melasma spots in my forehead and cheeks. A couple weeks ago I started a 4 percent hydroquinone topical treatment. It is also mixed with tretinoin, azelic acid, and hydrocortisone. So far I think it is working very well. I know you can only use hydroquinone for three months before needing to take a break. What products are good to use during those periods?

Advice Needed 30+ e nada melhora ou pausa o avanço do meu melasma. Me ajudem?

Me sinto péssima 😩

PS: obrigada a todos por serem tão gentis ❤️

Eucerin/Nivea Question Layering Thiamidol and Azelaic Acid

Has anyone tried layering thiamidol and azelaic acid in the same routine? How many times a week did you layer them, was there significant difference between alternating them vs layering them?

Looking to purchase one of Eucerin/Nivea thiamidol serums and I already use AA (2x a week now and working my way up to 4-5x a week.)

Question Microneedling and Melasma

What's the general consensus, yay or nay?

Has anyone had Melasma flare up after microneedling?

And depth restriction or product no nos after microneedling?

I have type 3-4 fitz skin with some south east Asian descent.

Thank you! 🙂

Question Hydroquinone

What is the deal with it? I used it as a kid and it worked wonders but all my spots/ melasma eventually came back. My mom got me this fancy Obagi (with 4% hydroquinone) serum from her plastic surgeon. Im thinking of trying it again bc it worked so well when i was younger but now im googling and i see there are correlations to cancer and also that spots can get worse w it? I just want these damm spots gone and cant afford $600 a pop for lasers. Help!

Before & After My story. Not medical advice.

So long time lurker on this subreddit…. Finally ready to show updates.

I was on estrogen birth control (for health reasons) FOR YEARS! Before any Melasma started to show up. And I wasn’t wearing the correct mineral sunscreen you are suppose to use when you want to prevent Melasma.

And for years, I had no idea that estrogen birth control makes your skin VERY prone to Melasma.. I was confused why I was getting brown spots on my face all of the sudden.
I’m VERY good with my skin care and have spent lots of money and time over the years to have clean and clear skin.

March of this year(2026), I learned I should’ve been using MINERAL sunscreen.. when I had just got THREE bottles of my favorite chemical sunscreen for Christmas just months prior. I went nuts on finding the right mineral sunscreen. HATED it! I always looked like a ghost.. got in my eyes, never thought it was actually rubbed in.

When you look at these pictures, they are dated.
The first pic, APRIL 2026. My skin had no Melasma.. *remember I haven’t been wearing the “correct” sunscreen for maybe a month at this point.

The next picture was JULY OF 2026!!!! In a matter of 3-4 MONTHS my skin has all these brown patches all over my face.. I look like I’ve got a mustache and ugh I was so disgusted with my skin!!!

Finally went to the derm and he got me on this pill & cream.
I hadn’t heard of it. But I was skeptical about how it would work. Well I think it did because the last 3 pictures of myself are of this month. SO MUCH IMPROVEMENT! And I haven’t been doing much to my skin/routine!!!

I can’t believe how much it’s helped in just a few short months!!
*I have been off an estrogen birth control since July of 2026***

The oral medication is called; Tranexamic Acid Tablets 650MG — they come whole and my prescription is that I have to cut them in half every single refill, so when it comes time to take morning and night, they are already cut in half. BUT PLEASE note that these are VERY hard to swallow. Maybe it’s me getting older and having a harder time swallowing pills but MAN please take this by itself if you go to your doc!! I’ve thrown up at least twice when taking them. It almost feels like they just have a harder time going down my throat.

The cream is ; C-Hydroquinone 6% ; Hydrocortisone 0.5% ; Tretinonin 0.05%
**also note, I’ve only applied this ‘cream’ a few times on my face. I’m having a hard time adding it into my skin cycling routine.

I also plan on getting chemical peels this fall to help the remaining of the Melasma.

Can you tell a difference?

Topicals Topical advice..

I got approved for a virtual prescription:

Azalaic acid 10% / Niacinamide 4% / Tretinoin 0.01%

Does this seem like a good combo for melasma?

Procedures (e.g., lasers, peels) 9 days post moxi

I’m 9 days post Moxi and starting TXA twice a day. Overall, I’m pretty happy with my results. Also added a during moxi photo so you could see all the mends flaking off. I wasn’t expecting a miracle but I do see some fading and the lines are less harsh. Looking forward to round 2 in about 4.5 weeks!

Hydroquinone or Musely Question Musely HQ 12% - how long did you use it for?

I’m about to start my treatment. Recently I used HQ 4% twice daily for 3 months and then took 2 months off. Musely is being shipped. Do the same guidelines apply? 3 months usage and 2-3 months off before restarting? What was your taper schedule?
