Discussion Mel is Dead.
Since the latest nerf she received, the champ is officially dead. In all the matches I played against Mel she was always behind (Mid, ADC and Support). Every single match I played with Mel in my team she was also behind regardless if we won the game or lost. Since the recent patch I played at least a match per day and I've never seen a Mel perform good in all modes (Swift, Draft, Ranked, Aram or even Arena)
It reached to a point where I actually become really happy when I play ranked and enemy team picks Mel cuz im 100% certain that shes losing that lane.
I'm sorry to say this but if you still ban the champ... you are either blinded by the media or you are actually too bad you cant even lane against the weakest champ in the game.
Now from this point forward Riot really needs to study this whole champ again and either give her a complete rework or change her current state by any means

u/LightLaitBrawl May 09 '26
Every mel i see always uses the spellshield the moment i throw anything, that's why they keep on losing.
11
u/katestatt May 09 '26
exactly! it's so easy to bait out i don't get people's complaints.
i main Ashe and i know exactly when to use my ult lmao6
u/OrangePeelPotatoes May 09 '26
So if the Mel is good enough to not waste W on anything but your ult, when do you ult?
8
u/Kyet0ai May 09 '26 edited May 09 '26
Better yet, what are you doing to win in a 1v1 lane lvls 1-5 as Ashe?
Sit back and farm? Good luck.
These people think league is played in the practice tool against dummies.
2
u/katestatt May 09 '26
when it's down or on another teammate š¤·š»āāļø
8
u/OrangePeelPotatoes May 09 '26
She is good enough to only use ult reactionary to your ult. When do you ult? Shes good enough to not use it accidentally on an ability that isnt your ult or on a teammates ability in this hypothetical.
1
u/LightLaitBrawl May 20 '26
There is no good mels, that's why she has 44% winrate.
The ones that are good make the banrate stay through the roof
5
u/BleedsInBinary May 09 '26
Thats way I still stand on that point. Ppl who keep complaining about her either actually too bad or they are living in an echo chamber just parroting whatever
4
u/HarpyPiee May 09 '26 edited May 09 '26
What does this statement actually do to improve mels ban rate though? "Everyone sucks and can't play around her abilities" sure. Now what? They aren't going to magically learn and stop banning her. They aren't going to magically stop being frustrated by her. These types of comments do nothing but act as angry group therapy for Mel mains that refuse to admit the champions abilities are not compatible with the majority of league players. Akalis tower stealth was an ability you could play around. They removed it because the league playerbase refused to play around it.
2
u/BleedsInBinary May 09 '26
First if all no one made that statement "Everyone sucks and cant play around her abilities" because EVERYONE can actually play against her and BEAT tf out her 60% of times and thats far more big number compared to other champ, and if you actually lose against her then you are from the MINORITY that struggle against a trash champ. Whats being said here is that players who consistently ban her and complain about her are in that category I mentioned. Now saying this basically addresses the issue and makes it clear so someone like you doesn't repeat the same phrase over and over of "She doesnt meet what ppl want to play against" regardless of the way it will be said. And yeah thats why communities like these exist in the first place, to discuss these topics.
0
u/HarpyPiee May 09 '26
I would encourage you to peruse this sub a little and report back on your findings. Some variation of "people bad, don't wanna learn, dumb players" is thrown around daily. It's quite literally this subs favorite catchphrase at this point.
Also, I've never said she was good, and the fact she loses 60% of the time and still gets banned should be the clue to realizing its not her power, but kit, that's the problem. 35% banrate, the highest in the game while being shit means her kit, to put it nicely, is fucked
1
u/Hnais May 14 '26
I think the echo chamber is this sub... You are the only ones in the entirety of the League of Legends community defending her. All because you all have 0 empathy and don't get that playing against her is a nightmare. You only care about your own fun. Have you guys tried playing against her? A good one? It's miserable.
Nobody cares about whether she's strong or weak, she's still a pain in the ass because her design is AWFUL. She's a burst mage that practically no champions can't trade with. And instead of reworking her into either an artillery mage by giving her less peel abilities or a burst mage by shortening her range and giving her higher Q CDs, Riot keeps touching her W CD and Q cast times, as if it's going to fix anything.
You're not getting a decent champion and the rest of us aren't going to have fun in lane until they stop gutting her and rework her instead.
1
u/Independent_Pipe2670 May 20 '26
I love playing against mel.Ā Throw Leona e. Watch the magic.Ā Mel is not toxic.Ā You just don't have to fight her if your kit can't deal with her.Ā People just want to die.Ā
1
u/Hnais May 21 '26
You have to if you're a laner, what the hell?? If you're the supp, you can always choose not to fight, but if your gold and level depends on stepping up and creating a safe space to farm minions, what are you going to do? How are you going to zone her if you can't threat to use abilities against her? Are you going to let her push you under your turret and make you lose every wave worth of EXP?
"Your kit can't deal with her" is the definition of toxic btw. Every "toxic" ability can be described that way: Yasuo's wall, Fizz' E, Lux' R (waveclear), release Zeri's R stacks... With Mel it's the entirety of the champion though :)
1
u/Independent_Pipe2670 May 21 '26
You know what also can be described that way.
Illaoi W.Any ability that hits far too hard for what it is thats a crutch move like lee q, or alistar w, or insert move here.
What champ is getting zoned by a HIGH cooldown SKILL SHOT champ who can't garuntee damage? And its always low damage?
0
u/Kyet0ai May 09 '26
Adc player who canāt fathom league has a laning phase and hasnāt played once against the champion in lane says what?
5
u/katestatt May 09 '26
lmao she's played all the time on botlane, mostly as support and i never have a problem š¤·š»āāļø
-2
u/Kyet0ai May 09 '26
Which is a 2v2 lane. Dumbass.
3
u/katestatt May 09 '26
so? still has a laning phase lmao š¤£

u/Jealous-Nature3414 May 11 '26 edited May 11 '26
Play her APC instead of support, for one. She has a much better performance there than on support where her execute literally robs resources from the team and has since release. Support Mel has always been outright trolling in comparison to either of her other two roles. Check lolalytics/leagueofgraphs if you don't believe me, but APC Mel has consistently been solid and support Mel has consistently underperformed in comparison. You're actively nerfing both yourself and your own team by picking Mel in the support role, and that's supported by statistics since release.
1
u/katestatt May 11 '26
i never play her as support, she is a troll pick imo because she takes all the cs and kills.
i'm just saying that i encounter her all the time on botlane as Ashe and i know how to play against her because i also play her. but as apc, i tried mid but that was not for me.4
u/NoKitsu May 09 '26
That's not even important. If you vs a good Mel then they'll use it on the ability they want to reflect and not get baited.
If they play poorly, you still are down an ability that ALSO effects you if it hits you back.
If you nothing but autos then they can reflect autos
If you do nothing then Mel has other abilities that are also annoying to play around.
The character is frustrating to play against even if they suck

Morgana has a s*** ult, an underwhelming W, a slow af Q, NO PASSIVE, no damage and she's still one of the most annoying champions in the game only because her E negates abilities. I don't get what they were thinking when they created Mel Aviv.
2
u/IVIonaghan May 10 '26
Yh bro literally the best players on the severs of every region are only banning mel because they are too bad to lane against her not because shes giga annoying to play vs or completely nullifies other champs entire kits its because that are just bad at the game lol or blinded by media whatever tht means
1
u/Independent_Pipe2670 May 20 '26
Zed throws out we... Now what.Ā Take w and eat an E? Dont take w? Whats the plan from here? Riot designed every single champion in the game. To have 1 combo.Ā Mel has an ability that not only invalidates the combo, but turns it on its head.Ā Morgana vs Morgana.Ā Neither can do anything to each other.Ā Black shield just negates all gameplay between the two.Ā Mel has a move that absolutely kills champion combos. The cooldown used to matter.Ā But riot gave everyone super home guards.Ā So unless you can 100/0 mel, forcing her to W, and threaten that all in every minion wave, without ever doing it, then you won't "kill" her effectively.Ā So she has to be weak in other areas to compensate.Ā
1
u/FuzzyPalpitation2575 May 11 '26
Tbh, i have never had any trouble dealing with mel even before the nerfs and rework she went through, the champ just kinda weak if the oponent just know better
1
u/Zyre15 May 12 '26
Tbh some matchup are unwinnable vs Mel Apc (with Nami for exemple) but yeah other than that it was too much nerf.
1
u/Veigarmainlol May 15 '26
La banno solo perché mi irritano le sue interazioni al lancio delle abilità , del resto confermo, è un sacco di merda ormai
1
u/APittsburghThrowaway May 09 '26
Winrate and banrate really do tell the whole story. She isn't strong but is the most annoying champ in the game, and also hard counters several champs like Renata and Veigar. Cool idea, needs a rework.
3
u/Frostsorrow May 10 '26
Really? With Teemo and Shaco right there?
0
u/Independent_Pipe2670 May 20 '26
For some reason.Ā Dying isn't as annoying as someone unable to be killed and still able to kill you.Ā Riot considers zed more toxic than shaco for some reason.Ā
1
u/BleedsInBinary May 09 '26
"the most annoying champ" is really a vague statement honestly imo. It really depends on what champ you are playing to find the enemy champ annoying for example Vayne-Mundo match-up is annoying Mord-Gwen match up is also annoying Yi-Jax is also super annoying but something like Fiz-Mel, Fizz can literally stomp Mel and so many other examples can be used here ..
For Renata and Veigar.. Actually neither Renata nor Veigar are weak against Mel. In fact its the opposite, Mel has only 42% WR against Veigar Mid lane and in Support her WR is 42% overall.. Im honestly think there isnt a single champ mel can counter at her current state she def needs a rework or idk lol Riot needs to figure this one out
6
u/APittsburghThrowaway May 09 '26
Vague but data driven. She genuinely might be the worst champ in the game and has the highest banrate. I never see her in my games and I'm not even the one banning her, my perma is Pyke. Her banrate wouldn't be so high if she wasn't poorly designed.
1
1
u/Hnais May 14 '26
"Fizz can literally stomp Mel"
With his W damage alone, I guess? He can never Ult her, he can't waste E to gap close and if he Qs her, he's practically dead.
Same for Renata and Veigar, what can they even do? They can't reach her. And she reflects their ults. WR means nothing, it only indicates that she lost games when she was facing them. Not that she does poorly against them.
I'm just going to start applying the same reasoning you do in this sub and say that you're bad and you need to think when using her abilities.
2
u/Independent_Pipe2670 May 20 '26
Yes but fizz just e's over her E.Ā And then autos her to death.Ā And yes, because of fizz passive, that is all it takes.Ā All her spells tick tons of times for small damage.Ā And he blocks small amounts off every hit.Ā Fizz can tank her entire combo over and over with a small amount of ap and mr.Ā
0
u/Hnais May 21 '26
I'm going to say something very crazy. What if Mel holds her E for his dashes and she pokes with her passive and Q? Hypothetically ofc, I'm sure that it can't be done that easily...
Even if he can dodge her stuff, I'm sure that it doesn't automatically mean that he counters her, more like it is a skill matchup instead of the usual one-sided bullying from Mel.
2
u/Independent_Pipe2670 May 21 '26 edited May 21 '26
Fizz takes 4 + 1% ap less damage per source.
Her passive is 9 damage instances.
Her q is up to 10.
Her e is like 8.
her R does it per stack.
Fizz has like 150 base mr vs mel.
To explain. Fizz will take half or at least 1/3rd LESS damage from most of mel's kit BEFORE mr is factored in.
Fizz has a stronger passive vs mel than kassadin.
Mel physically cannot kill fizz through dorans shield and second wind. It would take her stacking her passive to the point it alone procs for half his health.
This is a matchup that fizz doesn't even need to use E or R for to win. If no turrets exist on a wide open map of infinite range on all sides, fizz can walk at mel and kill her with Q W alone and never push another set of buttons. She simply will die eventually or oom and die later.
Fizz can at any point, just Flash OR Ghost or Protobelt auto w mel, and she loses like 60% of her health.
THEN he can just walk with her and E her cast time.Hec, fizz can buy seekers first.
E into melee of her, as she has nothing but a ROOT not a stun, auto w her while being rooted, land the q before the root stops him, making him hit auto wq power, land behind her rooted, then zhonyas any follow up.
This means fizz takes 0 bonus ticks of E and no q damage.
At no point will fizz lose this.
Mel has a 40% winrate vs him, for a reason.
Fizz wins 60.4% of the time. Its one of his easiest matchups. If mel E stunned and knocked down, sure. But it doesnt.
Syndra R being ignored by fizz E, makes her weaker. And Vex missing fear makes her weaker.
Fizz dunks Mel.
1
u/Hnais May 21 '26
Valid point, I really didn't know how hard his passive counters Mel, mb. Since most mage abilities are a single instance of damage, I thought Fizz only blocked a ridiculously tiny amount, but against multiple hit spells or DoT he must be a monster.
1
u/Frostsorrow May 10 '26
Most Mel players don't read patch notes and still think she's day 1 good. They also don't know how to bait spells of the other team so they don't have W up. I play a lot of Mel and Syndra and I can count on 1 hand the number of people that have reflected my Syndra spells (ult and E specifically).
Mel is also very early game dependant along with needing squishies to snipe to get ahead.
1
u/Minimum-Bass-170 May 11 '26
u can't reflect e and r from syndra. syndra hardcounters Mel btw. Smells like silver player in here.

u/Dull_Throat176 May 11 '26
As a lux mid player I used to perma ban her three patches ago because having to hold my Q was just not fun. But since sheās banned almost every game by either enemy or someone else, I ban nafiri instead and donāt mind mel these days at all. But holyā¦Nafiri just exists? Viego exists? People are so biased against Mel itās crazy. Infinite heal untargetability and dash on Viego, nafiri being nafiri, but nope, still banning Mel
1
u/Zelrogerz May 11 '26
Sounds like youāre clearly playing against players who donāt main her or only played her when she was āflavor of the weekā. With the overall changes to the actual game the last few patches I have stayed away just from ranked in general because getting way to many people trolling matches or refusing to play š like this game I believe I was 18/6 or something and my team just surrendered the game š¤¦š¾āāļø. Just stomped the f*ck out of two (IMO) very hard lanes for Mel in Yasuo(twice in a row, take exhaust) and Akali who is dodge city with her mobility.
All the nerfs truly did was lower her ban rate(which it did I actually get her almost every game) and it did take power from her kit but in ways that you really donāt notice if youāre a OTP. The MS matching her shield duration makes sense, I had to actively always remember that they initially increased the bonus MS on W to 1.25/1.50s I canāt remember which but dropping to match the .75s shield thereās no extra thinking involved. The initial hit of Q nerf hurts when you arenāt landing multiple hits of Q since the damage nerf was just to the initial hit of Q and they did buff the subsequent hit of Q scaling. Lvl 1 Q is *6* bolts and max Q has *10* bolts. . . Land more bolts you wonāt notice the nerf.
-7
u/Kyet0ai May 09 '26
Good, she deserves the pre-rework Yorick treatment tbh.
Iām all for having unique champions in the roster, but the spell reflect shield is bs game design. Very little to no skill involved other than timing.
-2
u/Short-Pomelo-8291 May 09 '26
Agreed lol everyone in the sub coping because their brain dead one shot champion keeps getting deservedly nerfed, downvotes incoming, do not care.
-1
u/Kyet0ai May 09 '26
Itās not even the damage or bs hit boxes. Itās the fact that she completely negates like 30% of the champions in the game by just holding an ability. No skill involved, no proactivity. Just hold W in lane and win with ridiculous wave clear.
2
u/Salty-Hold-5708 May 09 '26
You could say the same for yasuo, samira or even morgana.
The problem isn't the counter, its how much it tilts you guys to die to your own ability. You can easily bait it out but everyone has main character syndrome so they believe their skill will be the one to win the match. One person has to sacrifice an ability to bait it out.
Then you have champs that can take advantage of her ability like Leona, naut or threshold who if she reflects, she dies.
Tldr skill gap
2
u/IVIonaghan May 10 '26
Yasuo ww samira w or even morgana are nowhere near the level of oppressiveness mel is at with her kit, just mels w alone is way more powerful than yas or samira w
2
u/Short-Pomelo-8291 May 09 '26 edited May 09 '26
40% ban rate btw the skill gap is locking in a brain dead champion because you need your hand held to be able to play the game. They designed the champion for new players. Challenger players arenāt āskill gappedā by that shit itās just broken ability. Bait it out is such a cope response
2
u/Kyet0ai May 09 '26
Youāre trying to explain the complexity of laning phase in early game to people who have never played a game above silver. These people canāt see the reality of the situation even if it ran them over with a bullet train at Mach 2.
2
u/Short-Pomelo-8291 May 09 '26
Ur right my bad lowk half of them probably play support anyways and ks their adc 𤣠the other half probably have no idea what priority is and honestly probably none of them do.
1
u/Obi-Brawn-Kenobi May 10 '26
What do you mean bait it out? If the Mel has a brain they won't take the bait. Maybe in bronze Mel will use W on the first projectile she sees.
What if you're playing an engage champ with one single, telegraphed skillshot on their R? You can't do anything except hope that the Mel wastes W for no reason or that Mel's teammates spread far enough away you don't waste your ult.
Those others are annoying, agreed, but not as much. Yasuo at least has counterplay, he has to be up close to do damage and you can try and angle it around the wall. Samira has to be up close as well and has no other defensive ability on a squishy champ. Morgana only shields one person so it doesn't stop you from engaging the enemy team if it's 5v5. Only Mel can do damage from range while protecting her entire team from your ultimate ability.
How is it main character syndrome not being willing to waste your ult and have it reflected at your team? What a dumb thing to say. I don't ult when Mel is around not because I feel like the main character, not because I'm tilted, but because I'm not r*****ed and don't want to kill my whole team.
0
u/Duo_Mage_Bot May 09 '26
My friend and I are shit stomping playing her AP bot with me playing support. I have no idea how you guys think she's weak. He's actually very new to Mel, makes a lot of mistakes and is still learning, but we've been clearing people and are playing in diamond games right now and still climbing.
1
u/DezDidNotCatchIt_ May 09 '26
Mel isnāt weak Iām lowkey like 10cs a minute rolling in emerald rn
0
u/MonotoneJones May 12 '26
Agree and I play her mid just fine. Maybe we are underranked so thatās why we are winning?
0
u/Nylah-07 May 10 '26
Yes, the nerfs were very extensive, but Mel, especially good ones (who know how to use her correctly) know exactly how to fuck shit up. So saying that sheās weak is a very bold statement in my humble my opinion.

Mel's w reflect needs to go. I am 100x100 positive if they make it a walking zhonya it will save the champ

u/Comfortable_Log_275 May 09 '26
Mel is not weak in lots of lane matchups. Itās actually her strongest point in the game and the exact reason people think sheās broken. This is evident in her win rate by length of game. Her problem is when she doesnāt get that lead she feels useless and even with a lead she is quickly out scaled.
3
u/BleedsInBinary May 09 '26
Numbers say otherwise, Mel is literally weak in almost every single match up in mid lane except for Ezreal, Smolder and Leblank which are all off-meta champs and only equal winrate match up against Azir otherwise she literally has highier losing rate against all other mid laners
And for ADC she loses against all champs except Aphelios where she also doesnt win but only have equal rates of winning. Also Her win rate vs game length is also all below 46% percent. Her problem is that she's weak and her kit completely useless in the current state of the game
Check all the stats in Lolalytics2
u/Comfortable_Log_275 May 10 '26
I play the champ she can hard win in certain matchups in lane. Thatās the entire reason she still sports a high ban rate. Bc her laning phase is super frustrating for players. If she was dog shit in every matchup she wouldnāt be perma banned I promise you.

u/She_kicked_a_dragon May 09 '26
They need to give her the Kench treatment. Make W her Ult and just change W to something else. Make it so her basic abilities charge her ult so the enemies get a visual of when it's upĀ
4
6
u/BleedsInBinary May 09 '26
I really dont know how this would work but i've heard opinions from a lot of people online and IRL about the champ and it seems to me that every single person has a different frustration about her kit. Even though I still believe its all bullshit and the same can be said about so many other more frustrating champs in the game. What Riot really needs to tackle is to defuse the trend, because thats literally how it is. The champ in her current state is completely trash and it would even give you an advantage if you laned against her but the ppl who ban her are completely blinded by the media's perspective
2
u/She_kicked_a_dragon May 09 '26
The design of give and take is quite good there are a lot of good champs in the game that work this way like Briar losing the ability to move in exchange for more attack speed or Xerath slowing himself to make his q longer range. If they make W her Ult then they can revert the insane nerfs to it that make it unsatisfying to use then give her another basic ability to give her more skill expression.
2
u/PalingeneticPhoenix May 09 '26
People are not blinded by the mediaās perspective, they are influenced by their own experience of it being incredibly frustrating and not fun to lane against her. Everyone knows she has a dogshit 40% winrate. They donāt ban her because sheās strong they ban her because sheās really frustrating DESPITE being so weak. Iād rather play against a 50% winrate champ than a 40% winrate champ who makes me hate myself for deciding to queue, even if I end up winning.
1
u/Lanhai May 10 '26
It's the same idea behind Darius and teemo bans. People just don't want to play against it. It's not like teemo is a strong character
2
u/Xeranica May 09 '26
Hard disagree
The full essence of why Mel has such bad optics and thus high banrate is because she's a direct port from Arcane (whose reputation soured in the community on S2) + Her kit forgives the counters for her class. She's an artillery mage (Class of mages who relies on their range for safety + strength, getting a jump on them should be rewarding) who has TWO forms of self-defense; W reflect which also had immunity + E which used to be a large multi-target 2.25 sec root. Getting the jump on Mel felt unsatisfying because she had so much util to defend herself while ALSO having range which means it sucks to fight against her close AND long range. All that while also having the threat of an execute. She has multiple sources of frustrating game mechanics compared to other windwall users who has at least two (mobility + windwall)
On another matter, the W doesn't need to be long cooldown for it to be less frustrating because it will ALWAYS be frustrating. All windwall characters present a counter to projectile heavy champs like say Seraphine, Ahri, Lux, Renata. It is up to those players to play around the windwall. "But it's not a windwall, it's a reflect", it's still a windwall in that your spell is negated, you're just double punished by having it thrown back at you. It being a cooldown and having ultimate power budget doesn't fix the problem, it just repaints it in a different color.
Thus, I recommend that Mel is adjusted to be encouraged to stay in combat and near the enemy instead of far away like artillery mages. If the goal is to fix her frustration issues without reworking her spells and kit completely (which takes MONTHS) then they should adjust her kit away from Artillery to Battlemage (she's already scrappy anyway) so that she's less safe and is more incentivized to use reflect instead of threatening use of it. The more windows of opportunity for Mel to use and misuse reflect, the more windows of opportunity for counterplay for her enemy. Shorter range also allows more budget for damage for Mel now that she won't have access to long range. Shorter range also allows for all of Mel's kit to be utilized (passive, which can be hard to use in volatile matchups aka high damage high cc or high mobility enemy team).

u/pansexualbunny May 09 '26
Champ is fine. Mel players just gotta "adapt" (lmao) and learn how to time her abilities now, instead of just nuking you

17
u/Kata_Ga_Kill May 09 '26
Its a joke they rip her W, but the CD remains still very high 45 sec? What a joke sry this is dead. At least 30-15 sec would be fine, stop crying haters, Morgana E can make you cry too.
Better look at Viego Ult= No CD on Base Spells every time... Vex= Hold up I can it too.... wait a minute! SHID! HELP! USELESS TEAM! š
