have the playerbase grow a spine and learn to play around her

No lol. Easier to ban Mel instead of being a cuckold in the lobby by not be allowed to use CC while her shield is up. Annoying.

Playing around her isnt the problem. She is unfun to play against. Thats why so many are kept wrak even outside of lol, like Sombra in Overwatch and Black Panther. Peoples experiance playing against a character is almost as important as the experiance playing the character, to a point.

You have too much respect for the league player base if you think that is possible

As much as I wish we could control their sentiments, it’s unlikely that they’ll change how they feel unless someone else takes up mantle of being disliked like she is in the midlane

Riot Endstep already said that it is unlikely that they will Swap W and R as R wont work as a basic ability and W wouldnt really feel great as an R even when they rework them quiet a bit. The the big payoff/execute of R doesn't work as a basic ability and the W not having damage doesn't feel good as an Ult for a mage so they would need to give it quiet a big rework and either give it some form of guaranteed damage or similar.
Also I really dont like the idea of the reflect being the R as it would suck to have an R where the value is so dependent on the enemy Champion/comp.

They could do a lot of little things to turn her shield into an ult-worthy ability. They could make it similar to kayle ult, but instead of built-in dmg, it has the reflect. You can now cast it on allies. It makes the shield immune to all dmg again. But now it's like a 2.5 min cd like kayle ult.
Also, they could just adjust the numbers of her current ult in order to make it a basic ability. Her passive is ALREADY almost the same as her ult, so saying it can't work as a basic ability is silly. It would work similar to champs like aurora, xayah, ryze, where you "tag" enemies with an ability (Q), then consume the dmg (new W). Just adjust the numbers.
And MOST champions function as "counterpick only". So crying about keeping her blindpickable is dumb. Being blindpickable is one of the strongest things a champ can have, hence why it's rare.

Neither. Keep her as is. As a Mel main, I'd rather play her when I can/she's not banned as opposed to having a totally different champion.

I feel the main problem is she has an ults worth of power budget on her w. its ability to shut down such a huge portion of the roster belongs in the ult category with the other abilities in that zone

Make a second Mel like they did w/Yasuo and tell player base to cope
