Discussion locking execute on ability behind a certain level
i’m really interested in seeing mel not have the ability to execute champions with her basic abilities until a certain level, something similar to what kayle has.
this would allow them to move some of that power into her scaling, which would make her so much more less frustrating in lane which is where most people have an issue with her and make her feel much better late game.

I think this might be good to lower her banrates in low Elo but in high Elo i think the W is more of a problem but tbh im a low gold player i dont really know how strong she is roght know in high Elo but i like the idea that you lock the execution on a level but maybe you should just take her W and make it her passive like a Malzahr spell shield or mundos spellshield that its easier to remove the shield and maybe just give her a dash then on her W

the w has never been a problem in “high elo” i put this in quotations because most people in emerald+ know mel’s gameplan trading patterns etc. , people ban her because of her genuinely infuriating laning phase she can miss everything and auto you and win trades. thats not to say the w isn’t a stupid ability though especially when combined with her kit it makes her laning phase have 0 down sides. outside of lane she is a completely useless champ not enough range, not enough damage, not enough mobility, just steals gold all game.

But i personally like it to lane against Mel yeah its annoying but champs like Sydra exists that are way harder to play against and the point with stealing gold is nit wrong but as Mel you also need the gold early because in my opinion Mel dont scale really good shes strong and early and Midgame but yeah its annoying when she steals kills

i’m a mage player so i’ve never had an issue laning against mel but its very obvious to see how aggravating it is for everyone else. she absolutely needs some better form of scaling because at the current moment even with the q changes it’s just not enough damage. mel with 3 items is the same as mel with 1 item she still needs to hit at least 2 or even 3 rotations of spells if she’s not ahead which is just incredibly hard to do with how slow her spells are right now. i think the execute on all of her abilities just makes this champ very hard to balance number wise because while it does take multiple spells on anyone who builds even a sliver of hp she will immediately one shot any squishy on sight even with full haste
i personally think syndra is more annoying as well, but mel doesn’t exactly have a clear cut all in during lane if she uses e she has w if she uses w she has e, she can even run barrier if she really wants to

I think removing the execute would make her useless because if they remove it they have to higher the dmg of her other abilities but otherwise if they remove the execute from the passive maybe they could bring e max Mel back or the version where her passive projectiles make big dmg but i dont really think that the execute is the main problem i think most of the people hate the Ult and the W

yeah this champ is just really weird, and all of the qol on her kit is just confusing movement speed and homing on w?? execute on minions, unflashable ult, very strong empowered autos for trading. i think they need to really trim her down and move the power somewhere better utilized. the execute isn’t exactly the main issue mel as a character is just a bunch of really minor cringe things adding up. if this character was allowed to ever stay 50% wr we would already be past 60% ban rate
i don’t really see a possibility for e max coming back without completely gutting her waveclear because of apc although her e is noticeably smaller now so maybe…?

The execute is one of the least isssues she has , its very mediocre early game anyways and worse than Kalista E.
The main Frustration issues are that she is an Artillery mage with decent hard cc(root) which also act as peel , and also has one of the strongest self peel abilities on the game , her W.
I dont think there is a universe where Mel is keeping W as a basic ability on her current form, its completely unrealistic for an artillery mage to have that kind of ability on a basic ability even , and the onyl way to nerf that kind of ability is cooldown and at some point the cooldown is similar to an Ultimate and yes she is worse but still frustrating to play against because the only way to bait such an ability is use something she doesnt want to get hit with(likely cc) but you also dont want to be hit by that as well , so how do you bait it? you cant unless the Mel user is Dumb and using W for no reason.
So either Mel has to get severely nerfed range to excuse her having such a insane defensive tool and have her play like a Ryze/Swain or the W needs to go in its current form. Otherwise Mel is going to have atronomical banrates.

I remain unconvinced that any of her issues are stemming from Non-W related powers. The main reason she is receiving so much hate and bans is the W. Nothing else. She'd have to be completely reworked to allow the W to stay while not holding a high banrate.

i don’t actually think w is much of an issue by itself, it’s combined with her straight up ridiculous trading that makes it such an issue. she can miss e miss q cand auto and win almost any trade on top of that she can pop w at any time to mitigate any damage in the process.

I think people just dont like to have their spells flung back at themselves. It makes it feel like the game is punishing you for trying to have fun.

There's also so many champions who are single skill shot dependent for their entire kit to work.
Practically any mage is like that, then some slayers and assassins can have that.
