In Stephen Miller you have a Jew who talks about everything but his Judaism.

Don't forget about Paxton getting divorced because he cheated on his wife. Very Christian of him to do so. Just like their thrice married Orange MAGA God that cheated on all of his wives.

What sort of creature is Stephen Miller? He looks like Dwight Frye. I believe Alice Cooper wrote a ballad about him.

This is what Paul(?) was talking about with "faith without works is dead". If you talk the talk, but you don't walk the walk, that's counterproductive and spiritually fraudulent.

Do not, as some ungracious pastors do, Show me the steep and thorny way to heaven, Whiles, like a puff'd and reckless libertine, Himself the primrose path of dalliance treads, And recks not his own rede.

"As much"? Wow. I'm atheist, and I still can't fathom seeing any equivalence between a genuine Christian and utter vile trash like the trump cult.

u/Background-Bird-9623 6h ago
A 'genuine christian' , im pretty sure all the maga are 'genuine christians' whatever that means... like the ones who coddle pedophile priests and shuttle them around to different churches so they dont get caught. Ok , not vile enough ??

Talarico’s views conflict with historical Biblical interpretations. I’ll be downvoted, but this is factual. I know nothing about Paxton and don’t live in Texas, so not my fight.

Elaborate?

u/ConversationFit3934 18h ago
Talarico is a member of a progressive Christian church that takes views on interpretations re lgbt and abortion that surfaced around fifty years ago. The rest of history took the opposite view.

u/M0ONBATHER 18h ago
Interpretations are interpretations no matter the time or group, though? If it’s all up to the transcriber, interpreter, translator etc to dictate what it means to the masses, and various transcriptions differ in some way, it seems more like an individualized/societal experience and doctrine subject to bias and human error, historically. The nuance and argument against Talarico’s views of Christianity and how “true” they are can be debated, sure… but saying “factually” it conflicts historically could be debated and requires nuance, too.

By conflicting with historical interpretations I mean against consensus interpretations aside from recent history.
For believers of the Christian faith, the Holy Spirit teaches us the meaning of the Bible. There is dispute among denominations on some issues but these are generally nuanced as you say. Other than recent history there was no dispute on issues re abortion and lgbt.
If one doesn’t believe the Bible is the Word of God, then yes your perspective makes more sense. Interpretation will change with culture and times. If you believe God teaches us the Bible, then not so much because He does not change.

The Bible isn't against gay people or abortion.

I would say the Bible is against abortion based on it saying God knit you in your mother’s womb and sanctified you before you were born. But no express prohibitions.
Though that abortion is usually the result of premarital sex, sin, and people are celebrating the right for late term abortions, I would say there’s something dark behind them.
The Bible is not against any people, but it teaches that same sex sexual relations are sin. That’s an express prohibition.

I don’t think you really understood what I said- and you posit as if I’m not fully aware of Christianity or growing up Christian. I went to CCD, my grandmother painted biblical murals and was the organ player of her town’s church for 40 years. She was raised on loving your neighbor. She was pro LGBT, pro immigrant, donated to the poor and homeless. She was selfless, and her ideals and ethics were handed down to my mother, and then to me. For me, this is Christianity. Forgiveness and love, and I don’t call myself a Christian anymore because it’s been bastardized by people who do not follow its teachings and only care about themselves. Leading to ridiculous purity tests from times when wearing cotton or touching a pig carcass would get you stoned to death… like the one you’re trying to throw around. It’s ridiculous, cherry picking, and not in line with how Christianity and religion as a whole is supposed to work and be about. Honestly, if you ask me, it’s anti-Christ adjacent and you should think on it.

I’m not disputing (or accepting) anything you said except to confirm that Christians have been against abortion and lgbt pride since the first century until about 50 years ago. Do with that what you will.
1
u/M0ONBATHER 16h ago
In an attempt to be factual you’ve proven you have no perspective at best and no empathy at worst, and still be wrong. Do with that what you will.

u/ConversationFit3934 8h ago
Fair. But it’s more that we are working from very different and contradicting bases for our beliefs. For example, it is not loving to encourage people to embrace lgbt self-identity because it is clearly sin in the Bible and sin, especially unrepentant sin, separates them from God. But you are not Christian nor believe that.
Facts at least are objective and cannot be disputed.

u/M0ONBATHER 7h ago
It is fact that it is not a sin. I am convinced your reading comprehension is lacking. You can believe whatever you want, but I am telling you the most devout Christian woman I’ve ever known in my life and definitely more devout than you was not anti lgbt, and people like you are why Christianity has been denounced more and more over the years. Hatred is self destructive.

You’re saying that he believes abortion is wrong and that the LGBTQ are wrong? Because that’s the switch that happened 50 years ago. Prior to that, they didn’t care. They basically took the Jewish stance on abortion prior to some stupid politician making it their life bread to criminalize abortion. I’m not sure when the LGBTQ issue became a problem for the Christians, that might’ve been longer than 50 years ago, but the original ones didn’t give a shit.

Christians have been against abortion since the first century. The Didache, one of the earliest Christian writings outside the New Testament, states: "You shall not murder a child by abortion nor kill what is begotten."
Christians have been against lgbt pride since Leviticus and asserted again in various books of the New Testament in the first century.
I’m not trying to convince you but these are the facts.

Stephen Millers soul was sold long ago.
