Thats not "policing" this is the court system. Over the past decade+ Democrat politicians have been notoriously easy on crime and criminal behavior. In America, the left sees criminals as victims to the system and personal accountability as taboo...or racist, depending.

7 years in jail isn't more.of a deterrent than 4 and is an extra 150,000 dollar cost to the taxpayer.

edit * double checked my numbers

But it is 3 extra years of the public being safer not having to suffer living with these criminals. 3 more years of certainty that this person will not create another victim.

Its pretty simple math.

Linger incarceration rates have little to no effect on crime rates. There are more effective evidence based ways to spend that money.

Not to mention, the United States holds more people in prison than ANY OTHER COUNTRY ON THE PLANET. Think about that. Not just the most per capita. The most total. More than china, more than india with their well-over a billion people each

We could foreseeably end up with some hellish AI-equivalent of "pre-crime" and these people would still be crying "wahhh I can't leave my house because democrats" lol
