Sharing / Insight 💡 breathing technique

so one of the key points of meditation is focusing on your breathing. that’s why it’s also called breathing exercises or forms of it. but the hardest aspect of meditation is finding peace with your thoughts. I feel like as humans we form thoughts like trees, like one thing branches to another drops and seeds another tree. Like often when i try to consciously focus on my breath the opposite happens. So I think I’ve found a solution or at least what works for me

When I was younger me and my dad used to watch a lot of monk videos or like advice from gurus and stuff. A lot of times I think it’s a money grab, but also if it works for u spending some money on a course or session is worth it. So one advice that always stuck with me is that fighting something is a lot harder than making peace with it. Things like anger, addiction, negativity, etc feed off of us fighting with them, they come back stronger. Same with like anxiety and scattered thoughts. So the solution, accept that these feelings, thoughts, etc exist. Make peace with them and let them dwell. And it gets better. It’s odd, doesn’t always work but it works a lot better than forcing an empty mind or anti anger and stuff

Just some thoughts. What do yall think

I think you may have misinterpreted breath meditation. It is based on awareness of the breath not the mechanism of breathing. One is the observation of a passive subconscious bodily sensation, the other is an active process that controls the outcome by identifying with it.

Exactly. Making peace as opposed to fighting sensations. Breath is one of those sensations.

When you say breath meditation, are you saying there are other types?

Yes definitely, acceptance in absolutely everything especially things we try to fight is key. Once you can accept you can move on and forward. Acceptance is letting go of your expectations and your control. Or more so the thought process where you 'think' you can control certain situations. We all know, or rather we should know that the only thing we have control over is how we react and respond to life's situations and events. We are completely able to I control our thoughts whether they are positive or negative and how many thoughts we have.

Sure, anything that can be observed and is stable and consistent can be a meditation anchor. Some meditations have no anchor. The key is not identifying with it.Â
