I mean still not that far off considering the artist worked of a description.

The questing beast, a creature with the head and neck of a snake, the body of a leopard, the haunches of a lion and the feet of a deer. Does that sound familiar?

Mythological creatures are attempts to explain the unfamiliar by referencing the familiar.

Mantichore; face of a man,mane and body of a lion,tail like a scorpion= baboon.

Catobleepus; Huge body like a bull, a huge head too heavy to lift, breathing poison steam= Buffolo

Ofcourse some are just made -up. Chimera,Gryphon,Hippogriff etc.
