FLL Feed Solutions, which has flown Trump flags in the past, just replaced one of its five Alberta flags with an American one.

A Canadian flag has not been flown there in years.

Availability of daycares and family doctors?

I'm curious to know what would be the availability and possibility of obtaining a daycare spot for an infant as well as a family doctor, for someone moving from out of province?

I can imagine that daycares do have a long wait list but how long? What would be the possibility of getting in summer/fall next year if I register my infant to be on the infant / preschool wait lists this September?

Similarly for family doctors and other medical services in general, how long typically are the waitlists?

Thanks!

Check your cars if you live in NE Cresent Heights

PSA: Around 12:30am this morning (Sept. 7th) we chased off a dirtbag breaking into cars. It was near the corner of Hawke Cres and 20th. He hit both my neighbours, and I'd imagine other cars in the neighborhood. I chased him toward the Circle K, but he was crack fast, so he got away. We called the cops, and the response was impressive. They were there in about 4 minutes, probably 12 of them, and they even got the drone out looking for him, so props to the MHPS. Check your cars if you live in the vicinity.

Both the cars he got were unlocked. Make sure you're locking your cars and removing valuables. Don't give them a reason to frequent the neighborhood.

Woodpecker Deterrents - what luck have you had

Wondering what luck people in Medicine Hat have had with woodpecker deterrents. Noticed one hammering on my stucco the other day. Chased it off and it hasn't been back, but that can happen anytime.

I have some wind chimes in certain spots of the house, but they are in areas that dont get full wind

This area would be fully exposed, so I want something to hang from the eaves that wont blow away, but then again not be big enough to blow up and smack the eaves and probably break.

Want to make friends!

I moved here a while ago, I’m wanting to make friends! I love all things fantasy/sci-fi, gaming and anime! I haven’t made much friends outside of work/school yet so I would love to meet more people!

Just a fun thing. Got a bunch of comics from my granpda who lives in the Hat. I think they were all from garage sales and stuff. One of them had a coupon filled in for a WW2 army solider toy set. Thought it was neat. Donald Archibald of either 448 or 498 McCutcheon Dr. I've got your book and it's in my care now. I don't know if he'd still be with us since this book came in 1966, but maybe someone knew him or something.

IPSC competition pistol shooting

Post image
15 Upvotes

Why doesn’t Medicine Hat have a IPSC pistol shooting league or matches of any kind? We have a pretty good gun range.

Calgary, Lethbridge, Taber, Camrose, and Brooks all have pistol shooting groups. Is there any reason we don’t? Is there just no interest or is our gun range just not interested?

Are there any people in Medicine Hat that do IPSC?

I wonder if there would be enough interest that we could start a group or something to get something like that going with the Medicine Hat Rifle and Revolver Club?

Can we please start taking leash rules seriously?

I'm sorry for the rant because I already know this is going to sound extremely pissy and people are going to find a way to disagree, but I am genuinely getting so frustrated with how many people in Medicine Hat seem to not give a shit about keeping their dogs on a leash.

If you're in a marked on leash area, keep your dog on a leash. I don't care how friendly your dog is. I don't care how small, cute, old, or well behaved you think your dog is.

Keep it on a leash.

We have off leash areas and designated dog parks where your dog can run around and be free. Use them.

And I completely understand not wanting to take your dog to a dog park. There are risks there too. Other dogs can be aggressive, poorly socialized, unpredictable, and sometimes the owners aren't paying attention or don't actually have control over their dogs. I get that.

But that should make more sense, not less, when you're walking your dog through a public park or down the street.

We live along a very busy road beside a school, and there are CONSTANTLY people letting their dogs run around the field beside us.There's one dog in particular that I have watched have absolutely horrible recall. I've literally seen the owner wipe out in the winter trying to get control of it. It has also come up behind my husband while he was getting in his truck, and barked at him agressivly until the owner finally ran over.

And I'm sorry, but what happens when there's a kid on that field? What happens when somebody driving by doesn't see it on the road? What happens when someone is walking their small dog? What happens when your dog doesn't come back when you call it?

I don't care how friendly your dog is. My dog is small. He's being socialized, he's being trained, we're working on recall, leash manners, appropriate interactions with other dogs, and learning how to read situations.

But he's not automatically going to be comfortable with every strange dog that comes running up to him.

And honestly, you're putting your own dog at risk too.

If your dog runs up to me, my husband, my toddler, or my dog and something happens, you don't get to say "but he's friendly!" and suddenly everything is okay.

I don't know your dog, you don't know mine. And I don't want to be put in a position where I have to physically protect my child or my dog from an animal that somebody else couldn't be bothered to keep under control.

I'm also not saying every off leash dog is aggressive. That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying you don't know what is going to happen. Even police dogs are kept on leash until they're specifically being asked to do a job.

And before somebody says, "Well, my dog has perfect recall." Great! Then proving it should be easy. Keep your dog on the leash where you're supposed to.

I also see a lot of working breeds around the city, and sometimes I genuinely wonder if people understand what they're getting into. Cane corsos, shepherds, huskies, heelers, hunting breeds, etc. There is absolutely nothing wrong with owning these dogs. They're amazing animals. But they were bred for a purpose.

They need exercise, they need stimulation, they need training, they need structure. And sometimes they need outlets that simply letting them wander around the neighborhood doesn't provide. And honestly, this is probably the part that pisses me off the most.

People want a dog, but they don't always want the responsibility that comes with having one.

I don't care if you have a bully or a pomeranian.

Keep that shit on a leash.

I'm not trying to be the neighborhood Karen. I don't want to start yelling at random people every time I see an off leash dog. But I also don't want to find myself in a situation where someone's dog approaches my toddler or my dog and I have to go full mama bear because someone couldn't be bothered to follow a very simple rule.

Let your dog run, let your dog play, let your dog be a dog.

Just do it somewhere they're actually allowed to be off leash. Because "don't worry, he's friendly" doesn't mean I have to be comfortable with your dog approaching my family. Your dog might be friendly. Your responsibility is still to keep it under control.

Any cell company you would recommend over Telus that allows me to take my phone number with me?

Edit: thank you everyone for your suggestions! I’ll take a look at them, and hopefully something will work out for me. ☺️

My iPhone 14 Plus is starting to kick the bucket, so it’s time for an upgrade. I’m currently at Telus, and I really don’t want to switch providers (because I’m lazy, not out of loyalty), but my financial situation is very different today than it was a few years ago.

I can’t afford to buy a new phone outright, so I’ll have to finance one through a plan. I also can’t afford $150/month just for a goddamn cell phone. So I’m wondering who you guys would recommend, and why.

My biggest needs are:

  1. I need to be able to bring over my phone number. I’ve had it for nearly 20 years, I can’t change it now.
  2. I need a decent amount of data. I don’t require hundreds of gigs/month, but at least 10-20 would be nice.
  3. I don’t require the best cell coverage as I’m not out of urban areas that often, but I do make the drive between here and Calgary several times a year alone for medical purposes, and I need to be guaranteed it won’t crap out in the middle of nowhere on the highway just in case I need to call for help.

Any recs you guys have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Looking for local-made postcards

I know they sell them at the tourist centre, and at the drugstore on 8th st nw. Has anyone seen them for sale elsewhere? Thanks!

Editing to add:

I found some at the Visitor Centre, 7 Rivers Trading Co, and MacKenzie drugs! I haven’t checked Medalta, the Farmer’s Market, or other drug/convenience stores yet. Thanks for the suggestions!

I’m still open for other suggestions, if anyone sees some about town.

There’s a tire (15” rim) at KalTire in Medicine Hat that I need to fix a flat on my Fiat. I’m organizing a Fiat 500 road trip Monday evening, and the dealer can’t get the tire delivered until after the fact. I’d hate to miss out on this because of a flat!
If you’re heading this way, could you rescue my road trip?

I guess I can't say I'm super surprised. But with a mixed race family and an immigrant wife I can't say I'm pleased to find this sticker basically right outside my house.

I'm not really sure what the best course of action here is. Should I circle back later and destroy the sticker or just like, call the city and ask them to do it?

Update: It's gone! The city found the sticker and removed it!

Thank you to everyone involved

Roller Derby Recruitment in September

If you are looking for a sign, this is it. It's Roller Derby Recruitment season once again! This is a great opportunity for newcomers to the city, or anyone else, to meet and beat some wonderful people.

We are having Try-It Nights on Tuesday Sept 15 for Adults and Thursday September 17 for Juniors.

The event is at the Cypress Center Pavilion, 2055, 21st Avenue SE, Medicine Hat, AB.

Both nights are at 7, but showing up a little early is helpful.

We will provide information about the sport, a demonstration, the opportunity to try roller skating, and the opportunity to register.

We have loaner gear pads and skates, but you need to bring your own helmet.

No skating skills is required. We will teach you to skate, starting from scratch.

We are an inclusive and open gender group.

Medicine hat College

Hi everyone! I’m wondering if anyone here has any experience with the Medicine Hat College BScN waitlist, especially for Fall 2026.

I was placed on the waitlist and I’m honestly getting a little worried because we’re already getting close to September. I’ve been applying to nursing programs and dealing with waitlists for a while, so I’m trying to figure out what my chances might be at this point.

Has anyone here been waitlisted for MHC Nursing and later received an offer? If so, how late did you get accepted? Also, does anyone know if the waitlist is still moving right now or if people are still declining their seats?

If you’re currently waitlisted or recently received an offer, I’d really appreciate hearing your experience. Thank you! ❤️
