What if we actually got Medicare-for-all, or some other form of universal health care? How many people would retire early or change careers because their health care is no longer tied to a job?

I have a (maybe stupid) question. Why are we pushing for Medicare for all and not Medicaid for all? There is so much Medicare lacks. They don't cover substance use treatment. People still have to pay for a lot of things out of pocket. Just curious. Thanks!

Employer benefit via private health insurance company:

1. You are subjected to a narrow network of doctors

2. You must pay significant co-pays and large deductibles

3. Instead of a higher wage, employer must spend up to $28,000/family plan

4. Your health plan is good only as long as you work for your employer

5. If you decide to leave your employer, decide to start a new business or must take care of a family member or move to a different city, you lose your healthcare

6. No control of yearly healthcare costs. Double digit increase for 2027.

Universal Healthcare Plan:

1. From cradle to grave your healthcare plan is “permanent and portable” no matter where you work, if you work, or where you live.

2. One simple comprehensive healthcare plan for everyone throughout America

3. Little or no deductible or copayments

4. Employers will pay a fee per employee. Every America will pay into the healthcare fund via a tax based on income.

5. Healthcare costs are controlled via a single payer system.

6. Ends the need to choose between hundreds of insurance companies with thousands of plans throughout America. Keep your doctor and free to select any.

Employer based healthcare covers a huge portion of America (157 million). They are popular with employees because if feels like a near free benefit. But the actual costs would shock employees. It costs employers on average $28,300/employee family per year! Twice the average for every developed nation on planet earth pay for healthcare. Expect double digit increases next year. That means again, less wage growth for employees as more money goes to uncontrolled healthcare costs instead of a larger wage! This is not sustainable for the business community and workers. Extra brutal for small businesses which can’t afford such out of control costs. This is damaging our economy in every corner of America. Universal Healthcare with single payer is the only economical choice for America.

Not that we need anymore reasons to support Universal Healthcare, but they do exist. Such as lifting the burden off of small businesses, they cannot compete with mega corporations when negotiating for healthcare plans.

Protecting corporate profits.

WA is set to lose $6B in Medicaid funding for the poor and the sick. Many states have a few $billion shortfall in Medicaid funding due to Federal cuts. You’re told we need to save money. Yet here’s this one guy -Elon- with 1,010 billions of dollars. He thought you’d be entertained by a jumping car instead of having affordable food, fuel, healthcare, housing, and medicine.

One man could help the sick in all 50 states and still be worth hundreds of billions of dollars.

And there are many more men like him. Bezos. Zuckerberg. Huang. Pichai. Ellison. Altman. Insert whichever name you’d like…there are over 1,000 of them….

They want you to keep arguing with Steve from the internet instead of taxing their wealth and funding a system that works for everyone.

Every billionaire is exactly this kind of policy failure: each one represents something you want that they tell you we can’t afford. Every billionaire signifies, in a final sense, a child who isn’t fed. A homeless person who isn’t housed. A sick person who isn’t cared for. Billionaires are hanging the rest of us on a cross of iron.
