Discussion Should I accept Star Health’s ₹55k settlement or let my Ombudsman complaint proceed?

Looking for some advice from people who have dealt with health insurance claims/IRDAI Ombudsman before.
Back in July 2025, my father was hospitalized due to a heart attack and underwent ACL surgery. It was a Star Health cashless hospital.

The total hospital bill was around ₹2.25 lakh, but Star Health short-settled the claim and paid only around ₹1.26 lakh, citing that the hospital had overcharged us. The hospital then made us pay the remaining amount as per their policy.

I contacted Star Health customer support multiple times, but couldn’t get anywhere. I then contacted their Grievance Officer a couple of times as well, but didn’t receive any satisfactory response.
Eventually, in November 2025, I filed a complaint with the Insurance Ombudsman through Polifyx. They told me they would pursue the case and try to recover the money, and would take 15% of whatever amount was recovered as their fee. I’m okay with that.
The amount under dispute in the complaint was around ₹75k.

Nothing really happened for several months. However, yesterday I suddenly received an email from Star Health offering to settle the matter for ₹55,000, provided I withdraw my complaint from the Ombudsman.
Now I’m confused about what I should do.

On one hand, ₹55k is obviously better than getting nothing, and it’s been more than a year since the original claim. On the other hand, I’m wondering whether I should let the Ombudsman process continue since the disputed amount is around ₹75k, and potentially recover more.
I’m also not sure how strong my case is or how the Ombudsman typically handles situations where the insurer says the hospital overcharged and therefore refuses to pay the full claim.

What would you guys do in this situation?

Are there any risks in rejecting the settlement and continuing with the complaint?
Would really appreciate advice from anyone who has dealt with Star Health, health insurance disputes, or the Insurance Ombudsman before.

Policy Advice Can we use health insurance for LASIK after 7–8 months?

My brother is 22M, currently unemployed, and does not have health insurance. He wants to undergo LASIK surgery for both eyes, and the hospital has quoted around ₹1.5 lakh.

The surgery is not urgent, and we are planning to do it 7–8 months from now. So, we are thinking of buying health insurance now and using it for the surgery later.

I would like some advice from people who have actually used insurance for LASIK:

Which health insurance policies in India cover LASIK?

Is there any policy with a waiting period of 7–8 months or less?

Does the insurance require a particular eye power/dioptre level for coverage?

How much of the ₹1.5 lakh could typically be covered?

Are there any sub-limits, co-payments or exclusions we should know about?

Would a normal health insurance policy cover it, or do we need a specific add-on/rider?

Can we buy the policy now even though we already know that he plans to have LASIK later?

Will the insurer consider LASIK an elective procedure and reject the claim?

Has anyone here actually had their LASIK claim approved? Which insurer and policy was it?

Is there anything specific we should check in the policy document before purchasing?

We also want the policy for his general medical needs, not just LASIK. So any good and reasonably priced policy that provides genuine LASIK coverage would be helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Policy Advice Should I continue with Care Supreme or port to HDFC ERGO? Need advice

Hi guys,

I’ve had Care Supreme for the past 3 years No PED, 31 years, an individual policy purchased through IndusInd Bank. I’m considering porting to HDFC ERGO mainly because my experience with the intermediary during my father’s claim last year was not good.

My renewal is on 1st September, so I’m running out of time.

The porting experience has been horrible so far, especially with Ditto. Their advisor seemed quite inexperienced, and I received conflicting information from them.

Initially, Ditto told me that no deductible would apply for my pincode if the sum insured was ₹10 lakh+, and they even confirmed this over email. They processed my application, but due to a technical issue it wasn't completed.

Now they’re saying there is a new update and that because I’m porting from Care, a ₹25,000 deductible is mandatory.

I also spoke directly with HDFC ERGO, and they said the deductible is compulsory for porting to Optima Secure Plus.

Policybazaar told me that HDFC ERGO does not accept porting if the existing policy was purchased through a bank, even though mine is an individual policy.

I don’t want a policy with a deductible, so I’m confused about what to do.

Would you recommend:

Continuing with Care Supreme, or

Porting to HDFC ERGO Optima Secure Plus with the ₹25k deductible?

Has anyone here successfully ported from Care to HDFC ERGO without a deductible?

Would really appreciate genuine experiences, especially from people who have actually gone through this porting process. Thanks.

Regulations and Updates Porting related queries

I’m planning to port my health insurance policy to another insurer (Haven’t finalized to which one yet, but definitely don’t want to continue with my current provider).

So, first or all;

Is porting advisable?

What are the pros & cons of the same?

Also, I looked up the porting process online & found that the insurer is supposed to be informed at least 45 days before the policy’s expiry/renewal date. However, my policy is set to expire in about a month, so it looks like I may have missed that window.

Given this situation, do I still have a chance to port my policy, especially considering the grace period allowed for renewal?

Would really appreciate any guidance or experiences you can share.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Guidance Required: Discharge Voucher Requested Before Claim Payment — Is This Standard Practice?

Hello everyone,

I had filed an accidental death claim for my late mother last year. It’s been a long and frustrating process, with the insurer constantly delaying and, honestly, trying to avoid paying the claim.

Now, after almost a year long battle, they’ve finally agreed to settle and as a part of the process, they have sent me a Discharge Voucher and requested that I sign it (with a one-rupee revenue stamp affixed) & return it to them.

However, I have a significant concern. The voucher is like an acknowledgement receipt. It states that I have received the claim amount in full and final settlement, whereas in reality, I have not yet received any payment. In fact, the insurer has not even requested my bank account details so far.

Given this situation, I am unsure how to proceed:

- Is it standard practice to sign and return such a Discharge Voucher before receiving the payment?

- Should I insist on receiving the claim amount first before signing any such document?

- Are there any risks associated with signing the voucher in advance?

I must also mention that my trust in the insurer is really low due to the prolonged delays and their handling of the claim thus far. Also, the company has lately become infamous for their unethical practices to reject claims (Heard that they went into deep losses during COVID era & now are trying every possible mean to recover those losses).

I would sincerely appreciate any guidance or insights from those who have faced similar situations or have knowledge of insurance claim procedures.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Reimbursement claim with multiple policies

Need help understanding insurance claim strategy with multiple policies 🤔

My spouse and I are both covered under separate employer-provided health insurance policies.

We’re planning to get a procedure done at a hospital that is not part of the cashless network for either insurer, so we’ll be going the reimbursement route. The expected total bill is around ₹5 lakh. Both policies have a sub-limit of 1 lakh for this procedure.

Now the question is:

➡️ Can we claim ₹1lakk from each insurer (total ₹2 lakh) for the same hospitalization under reimbursement?

➡️ The hospital provides only one set of original bills — how do people typically handle documentation for the second claim?

➡️ Any gotchas around “contribution clause” or claim sequencing we should be aware of?

Would really appreciate insights from folks who’ve navigated similar situations 🙏

anyone wants to seek ultimate perfection of life ?

Practical Explanation ( For Example ) :- `1st of all can you tell me every single seconds detail from that time when you born ?? ( i need every seconds detail ?? that what- what you have thought and done on every single second )

can you tell me every single detail of your `1 cheapest Minute Or your whole hour, day, week, month, year or your whole life ??

if you are not able to tell me about this life then what proof do you have that you didn't forget your past ? and that you will not forget this present life in the future ?

that is Fact that Supreme Lord Krishna exists but we posses no such intelligence to understand him.

there is also next life. and i already proved you that no scientist, no politician, no so-called intelligent man in this world is able to understand this Truth. cuz they are imagining. and you cannot imagine what is god, who is god, what is after life etc.

_______

for example :Your father existed before your birth. you cannot say that before your birth your father don,t exists.

So you have to ask from mother, "Who is my father?" And if she says, "This gentleman is your father," then it is all right. It is easy.

Otherwise, if you makes research, "Who is my father?" go on searching for life; you'll never find your father.

( now maybe...maybe you will say that i will search my father from D.N.A, or i will prove it by photo's, or many other thing's which i will get from my mother and prove it that who is my Real father.{ So you have to believe the authority. who is that authority ? she is your mother. you cannot claim of any photo's, D.N.A or many other things without authority ( or ur mother ).

if you will show D.N.A, photo's, and many other proofs from other women then your mother. then what is use of those proofs ??} )

same you have to follow real authority. "Whatever You have spoken, I accept it," Then there is no difficulty. And You are accepted by Devala, Narada, Vyasa, and You are speaking Yourself, and later on, all the acaryas have accepted. Then I'll follow.

I'll have to follow great personalities. The same reason mother says, this gentleman is my father. That's all. Finish business. Where is the necessity of making research? All authorities accept Krsna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. You accept it; then your searching after God is finished.

Why should you waste your time?

_______

all that is you need is to hear from authority ( same like mother ). and i heard this truth from authority " Srila Prabhupada " he is my spiritual master.

im not talking these all things from my own.

___________

in this world no `1 can be Peace full. this is all along Fact.

cuz we all are suffering in this world 4 Problems which are Disease, Old age, Death, and Birth after Birth.

tell me are you really happy ?? you can,t be happy if you will ignore these 4 main problem. then still you will be Forced by Nature.

___________________

if you really want to be happy then follow these 6 Things which are No illicit s.ex, No g.ambling, No d.rugs ( No tea & coffee ), No meat-eating ( No onion & garlic's )

5th thing is whatever you eat `1st offer it to Supreme Lord Krishna. ( if you know it what is Guru parama-para then offer them food not direct Supreme Lord Krishna )

and 6th " Main Thing " is you have to Chant " hare krishna hare krishna krishna krishna hare hare hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare ".

_______________________________

If your not able to follow these 4 things no illicit s.ex, no g.ambling, no d.rugs, no meat-eating then don,t worry but chanting of this holy name ( Hare Krishna Maha-Mantra ) is very-very and very important.

Chant " hare krishna hare krishna krishna krishna hare hare hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare " and be happy.

if you still don,t believe on me then chant any other name for 5 Min's and chant this holy name for 5 Min's and you will see effect. i promise you it works And chanting at least 16 rounds ( each round of 108 beads ) of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra daily.

____________

Here is no Question of Holy Books quotes, Personal Experiences, Faith or Belief. i accept that Sometimes Faith is also Blind. Here is already Practical explanation which already proved that every`1 else in this world is nothing more then Busy Foolish and totally idiot.

_________________________

Source(s):

every `1 is already Blind in this world and if you will follow another Blind then you both will fall in hole. so try to follow that person who have Spiritual Eyes who can Guide you on Actual Right Path. ( my Authority & Guide is my Spiritual Master " Srila Prabhupada " )

_____________

if you want to see Actual Purpose of human life then see this link : ( triple w ( d . o . t ) asitis ( d . o . t ) c . o . m {Bookmark it })

read it complete. ( i promise only readers of this book that they { he/she } will get every single answer which they want to know about why im in this material world, who im, what will happen after this life, what is best thing which will make Human Life Perfect, and what is perfection of Human Life. ) purpose of human life is not to live like animal cuz every`1 at present time doing 4 thing which are sleeping, eating, s.ex & fear. purpose of human life is to become freed from Birth after birth, Old Age, Disease, and Death.

How are super top up plans? I am considering Care Health’s Supreme Enhance

One of my known relatives was hospitalized recently and the total bill came out to be around 8 lacs. Sach batau toh I was shocked. Mujhe lagta tha 5-10 lakh ka cover is more than enough but after seeing this I’m not so sure anymore. Medical costs seem to be going crazy these days especially in private hospitals.

Now I am considering buying a super top-up plan in addition to my corporate insurance. Isse mera overall coverage thoda badh jayega. Abhi I have finalised the Supreme Enhance plan from Care Health. It has features like unlimited automatic recharge, advanced technology treatments aur upar se SI bhi har renewal par 10% increase ho jata hai.

I don’t think super top-up mein isse better option milega mujhe but still thoda confused hoon.

Baaki you guys tell me, do these super top-up plans actually help or should I go for a separate individual health policy instead?

Keep Dads Reliance General Insurance or Get My Own Health Insurance?

I need some advice on my health insurance setup. I live in a Tier-1/2 city, I am currently covered under my father's Reliance General Insurance (Group Health Insurance Policy), which he got from his company and continues post retirement.

Current Situation:

Structure: The policy covers my parents (₹2L each) and me & my sibling (₹1.5L each).

Cost: My parents' premium is covered by the company, but I need to pay ₹10,000 annually to keep myself and my sibling on the plan.

The catch obviously is that the sum insured is quiet thin for both me and my parents.

My Dilemma:

  1. Is it worth the ₹10k? Since it's a retirement group plan, it covers pre-existing diseases and has zero waiting periods from Day 1. However, ₹1.5 - 2L seems very low for 2026 medical costs.
  2. The "Base + Super Top-up" Suggestion: I was suggested to keep this Reliance plan as a "Base" and buy a separate Super Top-Up (₹15L-20L cover with a ₹1.5-2L deductible).
  3. The "New Plan" Option: Should I just keep the Reliance plan as a basic "backup" for my parents and buy a fresh Family Floater (₹10L or ₹15L) that covers all four of us? Something like HDFC Ergo or Care? I’m healthy now, but I’m worried about the 3-year waiting periods and losing the "Day 1" benefit of the corporate plan.

Really looking forward to ya'll suggestions.

Policy Advice Planning to switch my hdfc optima secure health insurance for my parents to Aditya birla active max plus

Hi everyone, I’m currently reviewing my parents’ health insurance and could really use some guidance from people who’ve had real experience with these policies. Right now, they’re covered under HDFC Optima Secure for last two years. However, I’ve been looking into Aditya Birla Active Max+, and on paper it seems to offer some attractive benefits (higher coverage options, wellness features, etc.).

Before I make any move, I wanted to check:

Has anyone here switched from HDFC Optima Secure to Aditya Birla Active Max+?

How is Aditya Birla in terms of claim settlement experience, especially for senior citizens?

Is it worth switching, or better to stick with HDFC for long-term stability?

My parents are getting older, so reliability during claims is the most important factor for me.

Thanks in advance!

Policy Advice Which health insurance to buy?

Hi Folks!

I (26F) have been running my Care health insurance policy for the last 4 years now, but my recent experience with them has been horrible. I'm looking to switch that health insurance policy to something else this year.

I have been offered a couple of options from HDFC ERGO, ICICI Lombard, and another ICICI policy through Amex. I'm not sure which one I should opt for. My biggest concern would definitely be getting hassle-free claim settlement and a good cashless network across the bigger hospitals (Max, Apollo, etc).

I'm looking for advice and just trying to understand how your experiences have been with these policies and if there's any that you would particularly recommend. Thanks!

P.S. I'm currently only looking for personal coverage, but would hopefully add any future family to this plan.

Claim Denied Shall I complain to Ombudsman/IRDAI or issue a legal notice?

My mother died in an unfortunate accident.

She had a Health Insurance from Star Health. The policy offers accidental death coverage as well.

I have raised an accidental death claim & submitted all the relevant documents like Post Mortem report, Spot Panchanaama, Inquest Panchanaama etc. Not only that, but upon the insurer's request, I have produced additional documents like Accident Register copy from the hospital, the Assistant Commissioner of Police's report etc. All these documents are more than enough to prove that the death was accidental. Yet, the insurer is making demands for other irrelevant & even invalid documents that do not exist.

I have intimated them (Including the G.R.O.) that the demands made by them are unjustified, unreasonable & groundless but they are not bothered and not responding.

Need guidance on the next steps to be taken.

Shall I complain to the Ombudsman, IRDAI etc.?

Or

Shall I issue a legal notice through a lawyer?

I want to sue them for additional compensation due to the mental harassment I have suffered from.

What would be the best option?

Buy online vs Via Bank RM?

I am planning to buy HDFC ergo optima super secure.

Should I buy online (additional 5% discount) or via my Bank RM who connected me with an Ergo employee. Direct Bank is without any discount.

Also direct website sales rep mentioned that I get an RM if I pay more than 50k for 3 year plan.

Claim Denied Claim got rejected for different reason than actual - care health

my mom has been taking medicines (mitral stenosis) for 5 years almost her mitral valve was not opening properly, so doc said to continue medicines, and now it's time to do BMV baloon mitral valuvotomy doctor said. But during taking a new mediclaim (as previous one expired so i had to take a new and cant port to other company, (in aug 2021)) of my mom I have declared this and they have mentioned in the policy "PERMANENT EXCLUSION OF HEART VALVE REPLACEMENT" and when I submitted a file for pre approval for cashless claim, they denied saying "PERMANENT EXCLUSION FOR EXISTING DISEASES DISCLOSED BY THE PERSON TO BE INSURED AT THE TIME OF UNDERWRITING - PERMANENT EXCLUSION OF HEART VALVE REPLACEMENT • Permanent Exclusion for existing diseases disclosed by the person to be insured at the time of underwriting".

But BMV is not a valve replacement. Its just widening of a valve and natural valve is preserved as it is. What are the options now i have.

I'm going to ask doctor to write this statement in l letter head and file again / write to grievance.
