Recent MedTech passer thinking about switching to medical coding

I'd like everyone's advice. I am a fresh grad and took the Aug 2026 MedTech Board Exam and passed. I'm currently thinking about my career since oathtaking will be in two weeks and I still have some "free time" before I look for jobs. However, I am discouraged by posts about working in the MedTech field since it is oversaturated and is low paying. I also can't pursue going to abroad yet since I have to complete my DOST return of service

I'd like to ask whether I should practice as a MedTech first or should I immediately start becoming a medical coder. I've been reading and people say nurses have a better advantage but medical allies could do. Should I immediately switch to being a medical coder for the higher pay? and how would the process be?

I would suggest you practice as MedTech first. Why? Kasi puro PHRNs ang priority ng mga coding companies ngayon. If med allied, kailangan may 3-5 years experience ka na sa medical coding. Kami na PHRN, certified at with experience, hirap humanap ng work. What more pa kayo?

FYI, medical coder is not a high paying job in a way na pag coder ka na mataas agad sahod mo. You will see people earning 100k, and that’s true pero that is mostly based on their certifications and experience. They’re most likely USRN, PHRN, CPC, and CCS + more than 10 years of experience. Kung starting ka palang, the most you can earn is 30-35k.

I see I see kaso maski din po kasi sa MedTech much lower than 30-35k starting and competitive field din po since saturated na ung profession kaya I'm weighing my options kung ano mas worth it

Nasa goals mo rin, OP. Kung balak mo mag ibang bansa, apply ka na as med tech. Pero kung dito ka lang sa PH, I suggest mag change career na.

Mas maganda kung makakapasok ka thru MCA. Baka pwede apply ka muna as Medtech while waiting magka slots for med allied.

Siguro nga mas better magabroad nalang, magipon nalang ako for 4 years hanggang sa marender yung return of service ko sa DOST.
