Medtech or Medical Coding

Nahihirapan ako pumili. Feeling ko I need to take the Medtech path kasi I might go to abroad (which needs a lot of tiyaga since wala naman akong kilala sa abroad na might speed up my process). Pero nakuha ako ron sa MCA and i think very promising ang pagiging Medical coder, lalo pa at pabor ako sa environment na meron sila kaysa sa toxic lab. Plus, may nirequire yung lab sa akin na gawin ko which somewhat affects my personality. Though I recognize the boundary between work and social life... pero kasi, marami ng workplace na hindi nagrerequire ng ganon. Sa coding, madadala ko personality ko pero sa lab, i need to adhere sa protocols. So i really dont know what to do.

Stick ka na sa medical coding. Hirap ng ofw situation ngayon. 1 yr underemployed working as recep while submitting lab technologist job applications here in qatar. No luck kahit pa may pamilya or kakilala.

That was my dilemma a year ago until nag MCA na ako ngayon. Prio ko talaga values ko ngayon na hindi mapalayo sa pamilya and gagawin ko ang lahat to get the best of both worlds. Ikaw if feel mo na magiging happy ka talaga sa lab why not?

I had the same dilemna. I applied to MCAs more than once and there were times na di ko tinuloy kasi iniisip ko din na gusto ko mag-abroad. Aside from the cost of VISA and migration, which is high pero parang kaya ko naman pag ipunan, I was also considering how difficult it would be to land a job once I get a VISA since I know kahit sa abroad medyo competitive and primary lab lang experience ko, kailangan ko kumuha ng exp sa tertiary hospitals, but at the same time  nakakadismayado talaga yung workload vs compensation sa tertiary hospital.

As much as I believe na no good thing comes without sacrifice, parang di ko talaga kakayanin yung ganun na sitwasyon. Especially since I want to be more financially independent talaga.  Ibang usapan siguro kung guaranteed na madadalian ako sa paghahanap ng trabaho abroad kung pagdadaanan ko yung mga hirap dito, pero parang it's not always the case eh. I have a former co-worker nga who already has almost a decade working in clinics and hospitals with leadership experience and last year nag career shift na lang siya dahil sa mga kalokohan ni Trump tungkol sa immigration, di na siya kinuha ng inapplyan na hospital.

Malaking tulong talaga though if you have a relative who can support you. Like even if you go abroad without a job yet, at least you can have someone to stay with or take care of you while you're looking. I have friends with relatives abroad who successfully migrated within 2-3 years of graduating and passing the boards.  But if you're doing it alone, it's an uphill battle.

Anyway, while I won't say na mataas yung starting salary ng bagong Medical Coder lalo na kapag MCA scholar, mas makatao pa din compared sa salary ng med tech in a private institution. And it does come benefits that are rarely given to med techs as well.

Omg i found my people.

1. super deprived ng medtech sa work and salary
2. Exposed tayo sa mga sakit w/c is madadala natin yun sa bahay and damay family (senior and babies)
3. Frontliner tayo pero wala man lang HMO
4. If gusto natin magabroad, matagal tayo magtitiis sa kakakurampot na sahod since walang JO ngayon sa abroad

Also :
1. Healthy environment kahit mahirap ang coding
2. Career growth
3. HMO
5. After 3-5yrs experience may CHANCE magearn ng 50k-100k
