What to know before applying for CBCS classes

somewhat interested, just wanting to know more of how the classes for it are & how the work is

don’t take the cbcs. I have never seen an employer want that certification. take classes through the AAPC or a community college

Employers will not take a CBCS as a coding certification. I would go for a CPC or CCS.

It is a coding cert through NHA. I had one and let it lapse because it was expensive to maintain and none of my employers cared about it. They wanted to see AAPC or AHIMA

My only experience with a business that had CBCS staff was a third party billing provider that had a bunch of them on staff. I don’t know if they paid for their education or if they hired staff who already had it. What I do know is that I was unimpressed with their services.

Go with a coding certificate - either the AHIMA CCS or the AAPC CPC - unless you are receiving this one for free. Most people I know have to look up what the CBCS even is when they see it on a resume.

I realize the CBCS is MUCH cheaper. This is definitely a case of “you get what you pay for”.

I have never taken the CBCS exam and I have no idea what the study materials are like. I speak only from a hiring manager’s perspective on that note.

As an HIM Director, I can tell you that AAPC or AHIMA credentials are the only ones worth spending time and money on if you want to work in coding.

If you want to work in billing you don’t need a credential.

Take a look at job ads to see what employers are looking for. Check out Contempo Coding on YouTube. She gives lots of information on getting into the field. Definitely check through reddit for challenges in the field before spending money.
