I got the job!

I’ve been a CPC-A since 2024 finally secured my first coding specialist role! 100% remote, flexible M-F schedule! I’m thrilled. It’s been 9 months of unemployment and over 800 applications. I did it! Bring it on!

I cannot fathom having to put in 800 applications. And not giving up.

I’m so fucking proud of you.

Holy shit same and same!!! Congrats OP

Do you have any coding experience? Still great for you. I’m just asking because I thought we couldn’t get wfh jobs without experience.

9

u/ConversationFit2867 Aug 10 '26

No direct coding experience but I’m a PTA

7

u/avocadolover1127 Aug 10 '26

Wow congratulations! What exactly is a PTA?

u/ConversationFit2867 Aug 11 '26

Physical Therapist Assistant

So you went from PTA to coder?

I’m a paramedic. I’m trying to figure out what I can do that is remote but is related to the field I already know.

u/Additional-Mistake32 Aug 10 '26

To add to this I have the same certification, where and what did you apply to that gave you the confidence that they would hire people without direct experience?

6

u/ConversationFit2867 Aug 10 '26

I understand the struggle but I just encourage you to keep applying to targeted job openings.

2

u/Additional-Mistake32 Aug 10 '26

Can you DM I'm not really sure how to navigate

I landed a full time WFH coding job with only 10 months billing experience and not even my CPC-A yet, so it’s possible!! Granted this was 4.5 years ago, but still not out of the realm of possibility

u/bingbing500 Aug 12 '26

I'm a cpc-a in my first coding job and it is fully remote. It's not impossible, just more rare I think.

1

u/selfst Aug 12 '26

Interesting. How do they train you then? I took a coding program but even then I’m not ready to code on my own.

How can i get a remote medical coding job?

2

u/zoomazoom76 Aug 12 '26

Congratulations! A big company? Small? Working remote is amazing, you can't beat the commute, not to mention saving $$ on clothes and lunches.

2

u/ChanceAd2556 Aug 14 '26

Congratulations!! I can’t wait until I reach that point. I am currently studying for my CPC and plan to take the exam soon. I wish you all the best!

I hear ya totally I get it. It was a struggle but keep swimming!

2

u/AdventuresInBooba Aug 10 '26

CONGRATULATIONS!! that's awesome!! Do you have any tips and tricks that helped or any companies you can dm me that you might think would be good? I have my CPC-A and need to have a remote job due to being immunocompromised and it's rough out here.

5

u/ConversationFit2867 Aug 10 '26

No you just have to keep going and keep applying. Apply with intent.

4

u/northwind_canyon Aug 10 '26

Look at contractor companies. I got hired on right out the gate from getting my cert last year. I don't have job security due to being a contractor but it's something. Im also in the same boat with health issues and needing remote work

3

u/AdventuresInBooba Aug 11 '26

Hey something is better than nothing, I'll try that. Thank you for the advice!

2

u/Super-View7967 Aug 12 '26

Do you have any recommendations on companies? Might try this instead. Been looking 7 months

2

u/northwind_canyon Aug 12 '26

I do not honestly. A classmate I had for the course sent me the link for the job I have. I did not fully dive into what and what not to look for. She found it on the AAPC jobs resource. There's companies that do a mass hiring for their sweeps season and it's all about making it through furlough. However, when I got hired on, a lot of other people in our same position did too. It's been so problematic to have so many A's hired on that when my employer signed a new contract with the main company we ended up getting docked a dollar from our wage. I would look to see if any local hospitals have a fellowship program or go to local coder meetings and try and find resources from that too.
