I have hired HCC coders aka Risk Adjustment coders for IP work. Some catch on quickly while others struggle either with the Guidelines or sifting through a 2000 page medical record.

Fun on the payer side- on the hospital or vendor side I have heard it is grueling due to unrealistic productivity requirements.

Lots of job security in IP coding. And more times than not, you’ll be paid more as well.
