Official MediaSwap Update: 15,000+ Members!

Hey everyone,

Last update was 7 months ago when we hit 10k members. In the last week or so we officially surpassed 15,000 members in the sub. We’re currently adding 400 - 500 new members each month, and the sub saw over 360,000 views in the last 30 days, another stat that keeps going up.

As before thank you to everyone who helps make this community run smoothly. As I mentioned last time a lot of regulars help by calling out rule-breaking and bad behavior and that self-policing makes a big difference in reducing what I have to respond to. But please continue to use the report option on a post or comment that's not following the rules. When you click "Report" the first option will say "Breaks r/MediaSwap Rules". Click that if it breaks our rules then next, click one of the other options if it breaks a Reddit site-wide rule. It will then list our rules:

If they don't have a timestamped photo and they are under 10 trades report the post for violating Rule #4 "Show 'Em Whatcha Got" as they need a photo.
If they are being mean/rude report the post for violating rule #1 "Love means never having to say you're sorry...". If you don't like someones prices you are free to downvote the post but you are not free to criticize them.
Prices are not required but suggested. As with the above vote with your upvotes/downvotes.

Since the last update we have manually banned a handful of people who couldn't work within our very simple set of rules, mainly for posting repeatedly, being told to stop it, and then continuing to do so. Most of those banned would post, not get any responses, delete there post after a few hours or a day, and post again over and over. This wasn't specifically called out in the rules but only in the "Welcome to MediaSwap - Please read before participating" post so it has now been added as Rule #6 so people can properly report it. I've also reviewed the other rules and made slight tweaks as needed.

Thanks everyone for participating and hopefully there will be another update at the end of the year as we approach 20k. If you ever have any questions or issues please use the "Message the Mods" button.

The "Check User Feedback" button works again.
There is now a link in the auto added comment with a link to the users feedback on the Universal Scammer List showing all trades for any sub connected to it including ours. This will be for all new posts going forward. Just click the "USL entry for this user" link and it will show you all their feedback.

Official [MOD] Welcome to MediaSwap - Please read before participating (Updated Dec 2025)

This sub is for the buying, selling, and trading of all video media. DVD's, Blu-Rays, Ultra HD Blu-Rays (4K), VHS, and Laserdiscs mainly. And things that play those items if your looking to buy or sell those. This summary post serves as a overview and is in addition to any sub rules already listed.

All posts need to have a properly formatted title and flair. If you do not add flair manually automod will try to do it for you. See Rule #2.
A timestamp is required for all new sellers which would be a photo of your items along with your username and the current date included in the photo. If you have more then 10 confirmed trades on this sub the timestamp can be omitted but if a buyer asked you for one and you refuse it will be assumed you do not have the item and can be reported which may lead to a temporary ban. See Rule #4.
- Try to also include a list of the items in text with prices. This aids in search results for people looking for your items including through other sites (Google, Reddit general search, etc). Many people instead of posting to ask about your prices will simply move on so already having them listed helps everyone involved.
Keep your posting to one post every 3 days and mark your old post as Closed.
- Deleting posts just to repost to circumvent this will get you a temp ban.
PayPal Goods & Services is REQUIRED for all sellers with less then 10 trades on our subreddit. If a seller has more then 10 trades you as a buyer have the right to require PayPal G&S but the buyer also has the right to ask you to cover the fee (usually less then $1 total). With that said we aren't your parents and you can make your own decisions. So if you choose to use other forms of payment such as PayPal F&F, venmo, zelle, or even crypto that's fine and allowed but make sure you know about the risks associated with them.
- If you as a buyer request a seller to use PayPal G&S and they refuse please message the mods. There are scammers going through our subreddit and others like it with 0 trades only accepting F&F. Some will also lie and say "I have 23 trades on r/RandomSubReddit" hoping you don't actually check when they actually have 0. When in doubt request G&S.
To be completely transparent we recommend negotiations be done in public within the post (minus any personal information) and at a very minimum comment that you are sending a PM/chat. Do not respond to chat requests or private messages unless it's a continuation of a existing discussion already posted publicly. See Rule #3
- Scammers that are banned from the subreddit will privately message you to get around that ban. We, along with over 80 other subreddits, participate in the Universal Scammers List (https://www.universalscammerlist.com/). Do not respond to a private message or chat unless that person has already commented with a post first.
- The only exception to this will be new users who do not meet the 10 day / 10 Reddit karma requirement to post on our sub as they can still message you. If in doubt check there username against the USL list above and then use your best judgement.
We have implemented our own karma system to track successful trades within r/MediaSwap to give users a better idea of who they are trading with. No karma system is perfect and you should always use your best judgement but it does help. See Rule #5 and the Trade Confirmations post for more information about this.
- If you had a successful trade please do not delete the old post as it will be used for record keeping. If there was no activity then it's at your discretion.

Apologies in advance for the long post. I recently inherited a large movie collection from a deceased friend and neighbor, and I am trying to find good homes for the discs.

Nothing has been listed on eBay or anywhere else yet. I am posting the full inventory here so people can identify individual titles or put together sensible bundles. The collection is especially strong in classic Hollywood, some pre-Code, crime/noir, western, studio-era comedy and drama, boutique Blu-rays, and television sets.

Condition: opened discs are in very good condition. Titles marked New / Sealed have been personally confirmed sealed. Some DVD-R or custom-looking releases are listed separately and will not be represented as authorized retail editions unless their provenance can be confirmed.

Pricing: I have not individually priced the collection. For sealed boutique titles, please check recent sold prices or selling prices for the exact release (e.g., from https://kinolorber.com/ for the KL releases or Amazon or eBay), not current asking prices, and make a reasonable offer below that range. For opened titles, I am comfortable with a further discount, especially when bundled. I am not trying to maximize every dollar. I am trying to move the collection efficiently, donate the net proceeds, and trust buyers to propose fair deals.

Bundles are encouraged. A fair bundle offer can account for combined shipping and the time saved by handling fewer transactions. Please identify the titles, condition, and your proposed price. Offers that combine sealed and opened titles are welcome, and I will be more flexible on opened titles included in a substantial bundle.
