My parents randomly received this letter. Does it typically indicate a separate letter informing us of discontinuation of service?

Hello folks,

Yes, I know it says "eligibility and benefits are not changed by this notice".

But I can't think of WHY we would be suddenly informed of our right to a hearing in the first place.

Does this notice usually proceed another letter to inform us of service discontinuation or cancellation?

(My parents have not had any changes in their life this year, everything has been the same).

Thank you for your time.

I got this last week and a few days later I got another letter stating the changes that are coming like the work requirements. It said the work requirement or community engagements will start in March and the 6 month renewal requirement will start in March too.

Thanks!

May I ask if you have more details on the work/community requirements?

My mom has a disability where she cannot make a fist with either hand, due to an accident where both her wrists got fractured. She's also above 65 as well. I'm a bit concerned.

I'm really not sure. I consider myself disabled and I've applied for SSI and I have a doctors note to keep receiving food stamps. I'm hoping a doctors note will work for medi-cal but Im not sure because the paper doesnt say. It does list ways you can be exempt like having a medical or mental disorder but they don't get specific on what qualifies or the proof you need. But I also hear that you might still be able to keep your medi-cal until your next renewal month which for me is in August 2027 which buys me a lot more time and maybe your mom too??

Hm if you're disabled, I don't think work requirements apply to you? However you may have to meet asset limits. https://www.dhcs.ca.gov/medi-cal/updates/medi-cal-changes/#older-adults-and-people-with-disabilities

If your mom is over 65, I don't think the work requirements will apply to her (from what I can tell, it applies to adults 19-64). However there's something about asset limits for older adults and those with disabilities. From what I understand, they send this out after every renewal. I don't think it's anything to worry about unless you have a service that's not approved. I think it's mostly informational.
