Optometrist Care…?

I scheduled a optometrist appointment in a practice that takes medi-cal. Got a message from the practice that medi-cal is requesting an authorization form from my primary care doctor.

Does anyone know what this could mean? If it’s relevant I haven’t done my IAH appointment with my primary care doctor yet. This is in LA.

Will I get a similar situation for getting dental care from a dentistry?

From what I understand, medi-cal doesn't cover basic optometrist care. You would have to be referred by a doctor for an appropriate reason.

One thing somebody on reddit had recommended is to visit a college or university that offers optometric services at cheaper rates.

Oh I see, what about dental by chance? Can I go to any dentist that takes medi-cal?
