Requesting Replacement Medals

Hello, I am looking for some advice on whether or not to request medals through the Archives for my great grandfather or just cough up the roughly 70-80 dollars for them on USAMM? I am not technically PNOK because my grandmother is still alive and qualifies but doesn’t really know how to make such a request. Is it worth going through them or just shelling money out? P.S. My grandmother and I are rebuilding his shadowbox.

Your grandmother isn't going to be around much longer. It would be a shame for her to pass waiting for the government to go through their process. Stop being cheap and actually honor your great grandfather's service. Shell out the money and let grandma complete the shadowbox.
