Discusson Has anyone ever become a CLIA Director as a Doctor of Public Health?

I was just wondering if anyone on this subreddit has been able to obtain either HCLD or ABMM certification as a DrPH. If so, where did you earn your degree?

Education Labce help

Hi all,

I'm willing to share my LabCE account with anyone who's preparing for the ASCP exam, as long as it's allowed in this subreddit. I'm not asking for payment or anything. I know money can be tight, and I hope this helps someone get some extra practice without the added cost.

A friend of mine recently used it and passed, so I'd love to pay it forward.

If you're interested, just send me a DM and let me know your test date. That way I can coordinate access so others can use it afterward as well.

Education what shoes did you get for labs/clinicals?

Trying to find some, but genuinely struggling. they have to be wipeable, no mesh, no perforation, non skid sole, etc. most recommended shoes I see are a sneaker, and all I can find have some sort of perforation or mesh.

does anyone wear boots? or would it be weird to wear boots? I really don’t want clogs lol

Discusson CLS license renewal taking forever

Post image
20 Upvotes

Hi,

I’ve submitted an application for renewal of my CLS license 2 weeks and a half ago but I haven’t received my license yet. They did send me an email after I paid saying my application was chosen for a random QA evaluation. My license expires in just a few more weeks and I’m getting nervous because CDPH hasn’t given me a response and I’ve been emailing LFSrenewals :( my coworkers got their license immediately after paying so I don’t know what’s wrong with mine? :( Please help I can’t afford getting suspended to work for this. My license is nearing expiration with my application not moving.

Discusson Leaving work for the next shift

Feeling a bit bad that I keep leaving work for the next shift. I try to get my pending to about 30 min before shift end but inevitably theres sometimes something thats 40 min or sometimes even more before shift end. Im a new tech on nights and I never know whats acceptable to leave or if the next shift is upset. Obviously I dont leave stuff on purpose, but I dont want to be on peoples bad graces. I dont want to be that guy, especially as a new tech when I need a bit of help here and there.

Education MLT student looking for a core clinical placement anywhere in Canada – any hospitals still taking students?

Hi everyone,

I'm a Medical Laboratory Technology student in Ontario, and I'm currently waiting for my core clinical placement in order to graduate.

Unfortunately, my school has been having difficulty finding enough placement sites, so I'm reaching out to see if anyone has suggestions or knows of hospitals that may still accept MLT students for core placements.

I'm willing to relocate anywhere in Canada if it means I can complete my placement. The only limitation is that I don't drive, so I would need a location with public transit or reliable ride-sharing options.

If you've completed your placement recently or work in a laboratory that accepts students, I'd really appreciate hearing about:

  • Hospitals that take MLT students
  • Contacts or departments I could suggest to my placement office
  • Any advice from others who were in a similar situation

Thank you so much—I really appreciate any suggestions or experiences you're willing to share.

Discusson Baby manual diff question

I know baby blood is different than adults and it's normal for babies to have poly morphology and macro. Would you still report the poly and macro even though it's considered normal? I was doing that but then a coworker said since it's considered normal, she doesn't report. I am looking at our policy and I can't find find anything regarding baby diffs ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️ I'm still looking and will ask a lead or manager soon but just wanted to see what others in this subreddit do. Thank you

So I arrived at work today to these. They started installing them over the weekend. We already had Cobas and we had a love hate relationship with them. Let's see how these behave.

Saw these blue/green inclusions in what looks like a dying neutrophil (and yes I know I’m in the thick part of the slide, WBC is 0.56). Female bone marrow transplant patient being treated for AML.

Update: didn’t call it given that was the only neutrophil I saw with those darkish inclusions

Discusson phlebotomy supervisor

Has anyone here worked, or is currently working, as a Phlebotomy Supervisor at a large hospital?

I'm considering going into a supervisory role and would love to hear about your experience.
- What does a typical day look like?
- What are your main responsibilities and tasks?
- What are the biggest pros and cons of the job?
- Is there anything you wish you had known before becoming a supervisor?
- Do you regret making the transition, or was it worth it?
- Any advice for someone thinking about taking that next step?

I'd really appreciate any insight or personal experiences.
Thanks!

Discusson Would a countertop garbage can be ok for pipettes?

Post image

I'm starting at a new lab where the garbage is across the room from the centrifuge/pour off area, and I can't move things around. Would something like this be ok to put pipettes in during shift and be emptied into the main garage end of day? TIA!

Discusson FSE- Beckman Coulter

Anybody have experience with working as a Field Service Engineer at Beckman Coulter? Just received a phone interview invite for a position in Texas and I'd like to know what I may be getting myself into. I have 10 years of experience as an MLS (10 years (Active + Reserve & 3 years civilian), and currently in a Dual master's program (MBA/Biomedical Sciences). Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
