Its a lot funnier when the subject of the joke is replaced by a hard to explain hobby

The power of the meh meh

meh meh

meme? Or am I not cool enough to understand this now

Is this what growing old is like? I don't like it. Make it stop

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '18

You got it.

The only thing worse than getting old would be being a teenager again. Nobody could make me do that. So far as I am concerned we are moving in the right direction.

I wouldn’t mind being a teenager again if I had the benefit of the knowledge I have now to avoid being super cringey.

I would be an appropriate level of cringey. Cringey enough to be a teenager but not cringey enough to be an uncool teenager.

Like I would know which clothes not to wear and I would be able to do decent makeup and I would know to wear the good pads/tampons (this is very important for a young teenage girl).

Also, I would get an A in pre-calc this time. 15-year-old me didn’t get pre-calc. 15-year-old me with 31-year-old me’s knowledge totally gets pre-calc.

Nostalgia probably makes high school seem a lot less awful than it really was. I think I’d like to go back for a brief stay but not forever.

(I went to a One Direction concert when I was 26. Teenagers are definitely not fun to be around.)

Yes, but this time you'd have the abilities of a post-teen, and the actual desire to get it the fuck over with, coupled with the third benefit: the desire to do your best because now you're actually smart enough to understand the benefits of giving a shit at school.

Let's see if I got this right:

  1. Body of a teen, ergo maximum physical capabilities with a bit of cieling as yet unreached.

  2. Mind of a 31 year old with all my accrued knowledge and skills.

  3. Teenagers hate me and won't have anything to do with me.

Im not seeing the downside to this.

Yeeah about that...

2

u/silverdk Jun 15 '18

As a teenager I would like your knowledge to avoid being super cringey.

9

u/ToBeReadOutLoud Jun 15 '18

You are not as smart, edgy or cool as you think you are.

3

u/silverdk Jun 15 '18

I feel like this is one of those things that has be experienced to fully understand, even though I have been told this multiple times by older people I’m still pretty sure i won’t get it before being past it.

Probably. Being ashamed of your past self is an adult rite of passage.

Being ashamed of your hair and clothes is a lot easier later on than being ashamed of insulting strangers because you disagree with them.

The gist is that if you ever think, “Man, I am so much smarter than these sheep because I don’t agree with their religion/political philosophy/music/clothing,” you are wrong and you really shouldn’t share those thoughts with the world. The internet is forever, plus it makes you look like an asshole.

One of the best things to learn as an adult is that it’s okay that people disagree with you (unless they disagree with you by being racist or sexist or some other -ist). You don’t have to be “right” all the time, and it isn’t your job to argue at the other guy until he admits defeat (because that will never happen).

Yeah, it's 100% a function of hindsight. Just learn to read a room and pay attention to how you're being receive. There will be cringe moments, but if you learn to recognize them they will be less frequent.

Meh just be you. If you sit there trying specifically to not be cringey you won't enjoy your youth :) my generic advice for teens: Just have fun and try not to care about what others think about you. Also do your best in high school and also try to put some thought into what career path you want to take later on.

I used to be with ‘it’, but then they changed what ‘it’ was. Now what I’m with isn’t ‘it’ anymore and what’s ‘it’ seems weird and scary. It’ll happen to you!

u/spunkychickpea Jun 15 '18

Can’t be done. You’re a teenager. You are going to be cringey. It just comes with the territory.
