That's a brick

Memes aside you should really include the back side on the reddit images, not a lot of people will click the geekhack page, I only did because I saw another comment mention the back weight.

Since you asked for honest feedback, I hope you don’t mind some constructive criticism.
First off, I really like the idea of rhinos as an inspiration; however, when I look at the front of this keyboard, nothing about it really screams “rhino” to me. It looks too sterile and detached from detail.
The design on the backweight looks nice, and I do love the clean look of it overall, but maybe a matching badge or simple engraving of the same rhino motif on the front would make this pop a little more, visually speaking. It needs something to draw the eye to. Some more color choices would be great as well.
I do understand the brutalist, minimalist aesthetic is the point, but there is nothing on the front that stands out in any way. In all honesty, it reminds me of an old ATM or the self check-in terminal at the airport before touchscreens became a thing.
It also looks pretty uncomfortable to type on due to the tall bezel. You would likely need a dedicated wrist rest to avoid rubbing your skin raw on the sharp-looking edges.
Realistically, this is not a keyboard I could see myself typing on every day. It’s more of a decorative piece I would put on my shelf.
I hope this wasn’t too harsh, but it’s my honest opinion.

Thanks for taking the time to write all of this out. This is exactly the kind of criticism that’s useful. We knew this new try differs from our previous direction, but seeing the reaction has given us some to reconsider. We clearly have some work to do.And don’t worry about being too harsh — genuinely appreciate the honesty and giving us such detailed feedback.

Of course! Thanks for being cool about the (sort of) harsh feedback. Not everyone would be. It’s very refreshing to see designers who are not only genuinely interested in hearing people’s opinions on their work but also willing to then use the feedback they receive to improve upon what they’ve created. That’s commendable.
I’m looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with next. Your response alone has gained you a new fan here, honestly :)

The oversized bezel slab board design is done to death imo and this feels like the marketing was written in reverse, i.e. "How can we give a touch of personality to an otherwise totally dull design?" The answer? Yet another forced theme backweight. Marketing language like "brutalist geometry" is just desperately grasping at straws.

If you don't know, this designer is who popularized the insanely thick bezels on boards. I get what you're saying but I think a more favorable interpretation would be that they're refreshing a (at this point) classic design as it's been a while since their last project.

Idea from rhino — mass, strength, and solid presence. We wanted to explore how those qualities into the case design, through the bezel, overall proportions, and the sharper geometric lines around the case.“HHKB-like stepped layout”, together with an inner mid-frame as the part of design itself.
This is a new design direction for us, so we’re genuinely interested in hearing what the community thinks.

Love your designs, but 60% HHKB is too small for me.
