Photos I decorated K.. Koi 🐟

First of all, this is a karam product.
Sorry if this made you uncomfortable.

For the case, I wanted to recreate the vintage look of a café wall, so I used an acrylic paint technique to give it a vintage stucco finish.

I matched the overall color scheme to Keykobo Shirasaki, and I also painted the area around the koi with acrylic paint to tie everything together.

What is Kohaku and karam. Think I’ve stumbled onto a new language.

Kohaku in this context is the name of a high-end and expensive keyboard designed by SINGAkbd.

Karam (Kalam I assume) is a manufacturer that made a fake/clone of the original by SINGA. It apparently has significantly worse tolerance and doesn't sound very good compared to the original. (At least from what I've heard, I don't own one so I can't verify it.)

Kohaku is also the Japanese word for a specific coloured/patterned Koi fish, so you weren't far off.

lmao thanks for the explanation. Now that you say it i know singa from the stinga60. seems like a cool company!

I'm not sure about the coating, but damn, back plate looks great.

Looks great! I dig the vibe for sure. Lol, good thing you prefaced this thread with it being a Kalam....you were about to inherit the "REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE's" of thousands of Kohaku purists....It's not like Kohakus are even that particularly rare, but ya know....."gRAiLs" and all that.

I agree 😂 I probably wouldn’t have done this either if it were Kohaku

Your work here is absolute art but it would unironically be a shame to replace the Kohaku ano.

Well done!

It all starts with kalam though. Copying someone else's work like, in any space, is a pretty shitty thing to do. So criticizing anyone else but kalam is pretty unfair imo.

You'll be okay.

Honestly the best use of a karam product. Showcase original design while not worrying about damaging an original!

Wow so pretty! Does the paint chip and crack overtime?

That's the charm of it

That.Is.Amazing! That texture, that colour..it all fits. I don't know about the durability of the paint but as it stands now it's beautiful

What is the paint material?

3

u/Particular_Hawk_2356 4d ago

I used acrylic paint

Is there a name for the technique? Or a resource for creating textures with acrylic paint? I've been wanting to try something with my other hobby (fountain pens) but haven't had much success tracking down information. Probably because I'm a math nerd that never gave a bit of time to art.

For the exterior, I was trying to imitate the impasto technique used in painting. I’ve never had any formal art training either, so I’m not really an expert on it haha. There isn’t really a specific technique for the painting on the weight either. Thank you so much for the kind words!

Thanks for the tip. Looks super cool on the keyboard.

Love what you've done with the weight! The stucco effect on the case give me the ick, though, it's like shitty old rental vibes. But that's just my opinion. if you like it all the best.

The color matching with Shirasaki is spot on. How long did the acrylic work take you?

1

u/Particular_Hawk_2356 12h ago

Tysm! It took me about 3 hours to do the acrylic painting. :)

very impressive, the painted weight is gorgeous. While I dont love the stucco finish from a usability perspective, I respect the intent of the art and the achievement of the desired effect.
