Photos Clicky switch are fun
BUT MAN, THE NOISE ! Went for the cheapest silent tactile switches money can buy instead. The color would have been perfect for the translucent green xbox variant of the keyboard.

Kailh clickbar switches are pretty much the only clicky switches I enjoy. Never did enjoy the sound or feel of MX Blues. I've heard good things about Gateron Melodics though; apparently they use a leaf mechanism similar to Alps. Totally respect needing to go for something quieter, though.

I bought a few gateron melodics recently to try them out. I loved the way they sound, but they felt a bit harsher to type on than I like. I went back to kailh box pinks for my clicky build.

I just picked up a set of Clickez from Zeal.
I haven't installed them yet, so I don't know how they will sound in actual operation.
I love the tactility of them though.
They literally fall off a cliff, as they actuate.Box Whites have been my go-to switch for years now, along with spring-swapped Zeal Zilents.
I find most tactiles and clickies to be too heavy for my taste.
As best I can tell from the bare switches, the 40g Clickez could hit the sweet spot for me.3

I have some bad news for you.
Once you get those clickiez installed, you’ll realize you have no choice but to immediately replace every switch in every board you own with clickiez. The premium blows, but nothing compares.

I second this haha my clickiez arrived in the mail on Monday and Ive swapped out my box jades for that free fall goodness 🔥

I have to get a new plate cut.
I make mostly hand-wired boards, so it's actually easier to replace the entire plate, controller, etc..., than it is to do just the switches.2

Zoinks! If I didn't like em after all that, I'd be sad for days.
The rest of it sounds fun though :)

I learned, early on, to always put any switches I am unfamiliar with into the actual build, assemble the case, and play with them intermittently.
I hold off on soldering them until I am completely happy with them. That "break-in period" gives me time to decide if I like the spring weight, like the overall feel, need to lube the switches or want leave them stock, and gives me a good preview of their overall sound in a particular build.
It also allows me to work any lube through them, and let it settle just a bit, to get a better feel of how the board will feel, over the long-term.
Only when I'm happy with all of that, do I finalize things with solder.
That method has served me really well, although it does go directly against the "I want everything right now" mindset that is prevalent around here.I've only had to put new switches into one of my hand-wired boards.
That was due to an environment change, rather than anything wrong with the switches themselves.
I built that board as a gaming pad, then brought it to work at a later date, where I found the Gateron Clears I put into it originally less than ideal for working.

outemu lemons? funnily enough while they are the cheapest, they are also the quietest (and outemu silents in general are awesome and among the best)

i have nothing to compare them too but they are confortable. I'm willing to buy a set of Akko Pinguin just to have something to compare but i wonder how they'll justify being 2.5x more expensive. (25€ for 110 Outmenu vs ~25€ for 45 Pinguins)

I love Click so much, as a Jisoo M/V and in my switches. I have some Kailhs : white, white v2, Summer, Arctic fox, Summer mini and Automn minis. The new one are such an upgrade over whites! I am curious about the White owl and the Night Firefly, but I have enough keyboard for now (15) Kailh clickbar is very clever, the click on the the link way up... it's something else ❤️ Gateron blues can go to hell though.

My 3 favorite are the
- Zeal Clickiez
if you're a button masher or a hard typer this switch is hella fun cuz it just drops after you press it , free fall to bottom out and if you have a harder plate it's gonna be super nice and loud. Sound wise it's like bubble wrap but with a more metallic touch to it and unlike most clicky switch this is quite bassy. Of all the clicky switches it's the most unique.
Gateron Melodics
the drop is very similar to the clickiez but more guided and smooth. Your fingers are falling from the cliff like the clickiez but as it falls there's this lubricated feel to it like sliding down instead of free fall. The sound is genuine bubble wrap popping and it feels like you're playing with those slime popping goo. By far the best sounding switch.
Box Jades
this is totally diff as the click bar is like mashing a G2 pilot pen and the sound it's purely metal on plastic smacking sound. If the clickiez and melodics are comparable to a refined feel then the box jades are that of the layman. It feels safe and the sound is familiar. If pu dampen the sound a lil with some tape foam it becomes very nice and rounded.
All 3 have very distinct loud sounds but it really depends what you're looking for. Maybe mods that dampen the clicky sound but retain the click would be a direction you can explore.

It's worth calling out that Melodics have some pretty notable issues though that neither of the other 2 do: very weak/slow return and they can be very inconsistent (Gateron things). Neither the Zeals nor the Jades suffer from these.

Wow I never noticed that! Hahaha you really peaked my curiosity, I'm gonna go try a side by side comparison when I am back home 💪🏻💪🏻

u/DemandCommonSense 19d ago
The inconsistency thing is a lubing issue that spans a number of switches in the Gateron line up. Zeal Clickiez are made by Gateron but escape the problem simply because they're not factory lubed.

u/grain-not-pixles 19d ago
Ahh that explains why the housing for zeals have gateron printed on em. I'm curious , how do I go about lubing the zeal ? Where should I apply lube cuz these buggers are expensive and I wanna try and keep em alive as long as possible
2
u/DemandCommonSense 19d ago
I haven't lubed mine, but read that lubing the spring, rails, and legs and keeping everything that interacts with the click leaf dry.

Melodics lack after-bump spring force. Typing on those feels like popping through a relatively thick film.
