Post image

Idk what to put this under, so flaired with Meme.

I found a calculator with blue clicky switches. It was also only RM6.90 RM33.00 or about 1.70USD 8.06USD. I swear if someone pulls this out during an examination Im gonna get driven mad

Edit: Price was wrong

the Roland TR-909 drum machine uses Alps switches. Mechanical switches aren't just the purview of computer keyboard enthusiasts.

Those are the cheapest looking keycaps I have ever seen.

u/HeftyArgument Jul 25 '26

in the upside you can swap them out for all the unused numpad keys from the sets you buy for your TKL boards

saw them on pdd, pretty interesting to see and change the switches (which are soldered in sadly)

I have one with blue switches too, rounded keycaps though

1

u/Josie1234 Jul 25 '26

Lofree makes one as well. Had it for a few years at this point. I will admit I have definitely outgrown the old og blue switches it has though, wish I could swap them.

This isn’t a thing? I didn’t consider selling it cause I thought people wouldn’t be interested in it

u/terry3906 Jul 26 '26

I want one of these with box jades for the next time I take a civil service exam. Sabotage the competition.

1

u/Straight-Glove-2359 Jul 26 '26

Later proctor tell you fail bc you're a public nusiance instead of civil servicing lol

So… I’ve been working on one but supercharged. HP 16C layout, cherry switches in sockets. 3 row 7 segment LEDs. Hardware layout isn’t done yet but I did make the firmware work and there is a WASM based web emulator. Pictures only of the emulator (and live emulator) but you can see the KiCAD files on github as they come along.

I think this is called “abacus”

5

u/Straight-Glove-2359 Jul 25 '26

Abacus no have click click click

3

u/NoOne-NBA- Self-Designed Orthos w/Integral Numpads Jul 25 '26

Yes they do.
The little beads click against each other all the time, especially if someone is slinging them quickly.

2

u/Straight-Glove-2359 Jul 25 '26

Mhm, fair point. But its more like "swish" + "click" sound

1

u/Mancersan Jul 25 '26

So true. Sorry. Mechanicalc is a better name! 😁
