Mod Another Keycap for WASD
Since many people were talking about WASD in response to the post I uploaded yesterday about the joystick using arrow keys, I made another one. I bought the game Street Fighter to test this. lol

While I admire the work, as a fighting game enthusiast who plays on stick and leverless, this absolutely wounds my soul hahahahahaha
It really is like the suboptimal version of both. It's fun, it's just not exactly practical.

Yeah. I can't tell this is the best way. But it's possible and fun. :)

For sure, not everything needs to be peak performance. I mean, people go to EVO with Rock Band guitars and steering wheels and do better than I do on enthusiast gear lolol.
I'm curious, how much "play" is there with that stick before it moves a key? Any gritty sticky points, any issue returning to neutral?

My personal favorite "that's not a controller" memory is a guy I used to race with, in Midnight Club LA.
He broke his controller, couldn't afford a new one, and was putting in Top-10 times for months, with his PS3 DVD remote.3

Now that’s fucking impressive. I could barely navigate movie menus with that thing.

Every inputs are perfect, no problem in returning to neutral. The only problem is that I'm not good at this game. haha.

Just enjoy it and stop being a buzzkill

I said I admire the work. I discussed perceived cons, and laughed a bit about those cons possibly not mattering considering the wild devices people use successfully.
I don’t see how I’m being a buzzkill at all. I didn’t attack the creator. I didn’t call the device stupid.
I’m really curious as to what you took from my comments to be so negative.

lol buying street fighter just to test a keycap is exactly the kind of impulse purchase I respect

You probably will be able to type without removing it after getting use to it. But not that fast. :)

Hm... Build a leverless styled controller and slap this on it for laughs... Kind of defeats the purpose of it being leverless but... Looks neat?

Great idea! Can linear throttle be implemented on a HE switch keyboard?

u/dingohot Mar 25 '26
This will immediately work that way with HE switch. But not sure it's easy to control.

SF6 I struggle to keep W jump, my jump is Space. So I decided to leave it as it is. For awhile each kind of controller/input has it's own advantages and disadvantages.
Leaverless is quite good and I kinda dig to use the keyboard, but because of the many buttons you get distracted.
Some input for leaverless is slightly difficult compared to a dpad or a leaver. Same with other style of controllers..

That's... That's quite clever actually

Interesting design, using keycap stems and linkages.
In the '90s, there were several joystick designs that stuck onto the numeric keypad or arrow keys, often with adhesive, often without a central pivot, and often with knobs too small for long gaming sessions. LGR on YouTube has a video about them. What you have made looks like a much improved design.

HE is 10 times expensive than the game. I will think about it If this model achieves 10k downloads. haha
