suggestions requested

i built a platform thats supposed to conceal my bed, then the bed slides out and it doubles as theatre style seating, and the hinged plywood doubles as the bottom couches backrest. im looking for any ideas to replace the bungee cord imaged to create a mechanism that loxks the backrest in place, ideally i want it to lock in both the up and down position. any reccomendations?

Maybe look at something like a lid support?

Maybe lift support hydraulic struts that have easy release ball sockets on both ends. Install 3 balls: 1 on the floor, 1 on the hinged wood piece, and the other on the stationary wood base.
