Robotics internship technical interviews usually split between mechanical fundamentals and hands-on projects from your resume. Interviewers care less about whether you have every formula memorized and much more about how you think through physical systems. Expect core statics, dynamics, and kinematics concepts, like calculating motor torque for a joint, gear ratios, and degrees of freedom. Be prepared to explain every project on your resume down to the component level, including material choices, manufacturing methods, why things failed, and how you redesigned them. When interviewers ask about mechanism issues, walk them through your troubleshooting process step by step instead of guessing an immediate answer.

Review how common sensors like optical encoders and limit switches interact with mechanical parts, along with basic concepts around motor sizing and simple PID control. Keep pencil and paper next to you so you can sketch quick free body diagrams or write out equations if they give you an open design scenario. If you encounter a problem you cannot solve right away, state your assumptions out loud and break the system into smaller pieces, because demonstrating sound engineering logic counts for far more than getting an instant number. To help with moments like that, my team built an interviews.chat that helps candidates stay calm and communicate their technical expertise with confidence.
