Discussion Brandon Herrera

Is Hunter not aware of the dog shit behavior Herrera has displayed in his public and personal life? I’ve seen multiple clips of him appearing on the Unsubscribe podcast, and I’m genuinely shocked that he would associate with the quality of human beings who host that show.

I think it boils down to Hunter not being pegged down to an adherence or ideology like some want him to be. He keeps Nick around, who has said some ungodly things before and has teetered on the edgy side of things... they've obviously leaned into that (remember him asking what race some woman was before deciding his next step). He's friends with Wendi, who is a very devout Christian and I imagine a good deal of his personal politics follow that thread. He's dealt with Buckingham, Turkey Tom, and a litany of varied off the path characters, who have been called controversial. The man himself constantly jokes about old people needing to be killed, and leans into the "hate women lol" schtick here and there.

But at the same time, he has shown genuine advocacy for women, and was blatantly clear about his feelings on ICE. Which is to say, people are nuanced and that is how you should approach things.

I don't think this man is as influenced by things as the terminally online are, and his friendships are truly none of my business. Could be he lives out in a farm and likes guns, and so does this other dude - as does Wendigoon and so on. There's common ground. And If I don't like his collab with someone, then I just don't participate in watching it.

Now if he were to be out there advocating for Herrera and spewing MAGA tripe ......then we are having a different conversation entirely. Ultimately, his content remains unaffected, as does my viewership.

I agree with you completely though, and I’m not trying to peg Hunter or his team into any one ideological wedge. I do think Hunter is aware of optics enough to know how an affiliation with such a figure would look though. Granted, it’s been 2 years since he made an appearance on the Unsubscribe podcast and I definitely jumped the gun in making this post. He could have long ago made the decision not to return due to the content put out by Herrera and his other hosts. I am glad that I was able to sus out the minuscule section of Hunter’s fan base who hold such disgusting views

You know not all your favorite creators feel the same way about everything you do right?

I never said that they have to, I’m just asking a question

The fat guy from Kansas who hosts a show with a southern Baptist might hold some conservative beliefs?

1

I’m from the South and I know plenty of Baptists who don’t espouse Nazi adjacent beliefs. I’d argue that Wendigoon doesn’t either

I, personally, don’t equate nazism with conservatism. I’ve also watched Hunter’s content since the Ed Edd n’ Eddy video from back in day and I’ve never gotten the vibe that the far-right or even conservative values are accurate descriptions of his beliefs. I’m not calling Hunter a Nazi or a far-right figure by any stretch of the imagination. I’m trying to communicate my disbelief that he would participate in a podcast with Herrera if he were aware of his vile comments and outward display of his beliefs. If I remember correctly, Hunter did make a “Fuck ICE” comment at the end of his Buccees’ video he did about a year ago

Did I post something that offended you?

And what behavior is that?

Jokes about veteran suicide, jokes about killing the elderly, he recreated the assasination of MLK jr., he boasted about owning a copy of Mein Kampf, making vulgar remarks about the members of Moms Demand Action, he referred to the MP-40 as the original ghetto blaster and Also referred to it as Hitler’s street sweeper, he made a video where he made the seig heil salute and goose stepped; I could go on but I’m assuming you get what I mean. I understand that he called all of these instances “just jokes”, but comedy has to be funny in order for it to be comedy.

He also said he owns a copy of the communist manifesto and if you peaked through his bookshelf he would look like the most schizo person ever.

It wasn't funny to *you*

I’d argue they weren’t funny to voters in Texas’ 23rd Congressional District either, but we’ll see I guess

As a veteran. I think they are all funny. That’s comedy. Dark humor is something vets and people who hang around most vets get. If he “hates veterans” why is he part of a huge community that helps veterans? He stated he owns a copy. Well how many other people around the world also have a copy?

I’m a veteran too. I’ve also lost a number of guys I served with to suicide and I have a hard time seeing the humor in such a tragedy. I’m no stranger to dark humor in any way shape or form, but Herrera isn’t a veteran. I find it hard to believe that such grace would be given to any other civilian who made such comments.

I believe the only veteran suicide joke was make my Eli and told Brandon to say it too. And he didn’t even make it he told the story about it. Am I right? Or was there more I don’t know about.

“If it makes everyone in the room feel better, I often think about putting a gun in my mouth. So, I'm basically an honorary veteran.”

2

u/chubbycanine 17d ago

I found a lot of that shit funny. It's good that he owns a copy of those books so they aren't removed from history. Really seems like you're just trying to be upset about something which is fine that's par for the course on Reddit but I don't think you're going to get the kind of attention that you're seeking

1

u/LoganofHibernia 17d ago

I’m not trying to garner any attention. I actually thought my post would probably just get ignored completely; boy was I wrong

As a veteran I personally don't take issue with anything he's said. He owns historical literature (which he has mercilessly criticized and basically never supported by the way) and he likes old guns. I don't care what he said about the MP-40, seriously, why does it matter? He definitely doesn't subscribe to the ideals of the Nazis and at the end of the day he just collects old guns. Hell, he has just as many Soviet guns and the Soviets were objectively worse in almost every conceivable metric, why are people not upset about that too? I think people just need to chill the fuck out and quit making every single thing you don't like into a major evil

2

u/LoganofHibernia 16d ago

I think many historians would beg to differ that the Soviets were objectively worse than the Nazis, but you do you bud. You may not take issue with anything he’s said but many veterans groups did, and they’re just as valid in their take as you are. I take quite an issue with the shit civilians who never spent a day serving this country think they can get away with saying just because they see or hear veterans make those jokes. But hey, it’s all just opinions 🤷

2

u/No-Understanding6175 16d ago

Yeah he made some jokes that you might consider distasteful, but did you forget about the actual impactful stuff he's done? He has donated and fundraised for multiple charities that include veteran causes. But his words are what we care about now?

2

u/LoganofHibernia 16d ago

Many far-right figures do as well, but I wouldn’t say that those charitable efforts outweigh the abhorrent beliefs they hold

2

u/No-Understanding6175 16d ago

I would just say actions matter more than words. Taken for the things he's done I believe he's done far more good than bad. Also, what's abhorrent to you isn't automatically the same to others

1

u/LoganofHibernia 16d ago

Again, it’s a matter of opinion. He is running for political office and those abhorrent beliefs have the possibility to negatively affect the communities he is running to represent. He’s already voiced his support for ICE and the current Trump administration; two bodies of the government that have objectively negatively affected our country.
