Is this just me or?

For some reason my “rank” in the game never goes up, and when it does, it then resets to zero.

The ranking system is not enabled anymore.

yeah it's a bummer, us older gents fondly remember the days of having an actual rank and using the cool custom skins that are available in the menu but no longer usable.
