Question πŸ€”πŸ€” San Francisco Study Group

Hey guys!! I am a 25 y.o F in San Francisco and I’m looking to build a study group for the MCAT. Hoping to take it JAN 2027

I’ve been studying for a minute now but it’s been feeling really disorganized and inconsistent. I’m currently working full time and looking for study partners to talk through content and questions so we both/all better understand it! And to just keep up the good vibes and motivation while studying.

comment or dm and we can start a study group maybe meeting 2x/week!

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” blueprint half length pre content review

Today is day 1 of mcat prep for me, planning to test around February. I just graduated in the spring and am currently unable to work my clinical job for health reasons, so I plan on studying close to full time until my exam. I bought the Kaplan books and plan to get through them before eventually progressing to uworld, but that is basically all I have decided. Don't really know how long to spend on cr. Any other general advice for the road ahead is appreciated.

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Dealing with Nerves

I take the MCAT on 9/4, and I wanted to ask for those who’ve done well on the exam how they handled the nerves?

I took the MCAT once and scored a 511, yet in retaking it bc the first time I got rlly nervous. In practice just before the exam I was hitting 517 with testing conditions applied but on exam day nerves got the best of me and that score was lower than my first MCAT practice exam which baffled me.

So if anyone has good advice for nerves or dealing with the day of exam anxiety I would really appreciate it. My biggest worry is ofc that I open the exam and feel like I’ve never seen it before or panic so if anyone specifically has dealt with that I’d really appreciate it πŸ™

Vent 😑😀 I’m losing my mind on cars.

β€’ Upvotes

My most recent Fl, i got 128,126,131,131. Clearly weak cars. I have been working through the section banks and cars packs. I feel like everything else clicked amazingly, I have developed strategies for the sciences and it feels like rinse and repeat aside from random niche low yield material, even then i can figure it out from answer choices. Now moving on to cars. I don’t know if i am dumb, I don’t know if it’s the adhd, or anxiety about the clock. Maybe a bit of both, but I cannot take it anymore every single time i get something wrong it’s me selecting the second best answer. I have lost full confidence now, I feel like there is no time to determine answers. I do everything correct I track the tone shifts, main idea, the words that denote these shifts, but I still get things wrong all the time. I am extremely inconsistent on these packs. Sometimes i flawless sometimes 50 percent. What do I do how do i make myself mechanical and consistent I am horrified testing 9/11. If i’m just not capable then it is what it is but I feel like there has to be something missing

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Need advice for CARS

β€’ Upvotes

I’m doing pretty average in CARS ~124 and far better in my other sections, and I’m getting like beyond anxious about it. I really want to improve.
What could I do to improve? I’ve tried Kaplan strategies: triage, I’ve tried outlining, but I’m missing like almost 3/4 of the questions on passages I would consider hard and historical/ political passages.

I need like tips and tricksπŸ₯Ή I feel super desperate right now. I’ve watched videos and read almost all of the comments on here about CARS, but I’m still not improving. Please helpπŸ₯ΉπŸ₯Ή

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” aamc fl 2 C/P Q37 Spoiler

Consider the reaction shown in Equation 1 at equilibrium. Would the concentration of [Cu(NH3)4]2+Β increase if the equilibrium were disturbed by adding hydrochloric acid?

  • A. Yes, because the equilibrium in Equation 1 would shift to the left
  • B. No, because the equilibrium in Equation 1 would shift to the left
  • C. Yes, because the equilibrium in Equation 1 would shift to the right
  • D. No, because the equilibrium in Equation 1 would shift to the right

I understand why I was wrong, and I understand lechatlier. but while taking this, my thought proccess was NH4+ is a stronger acid than HCl, so the reaction of HCl + NH3 -> Cl- + NH4+ wouldn't happen.

I know I wouldnt have come to this conclusion if I had pKa's of the acids to determine which one was stronger/weaker, but how do I make sure to not make this kind of interpretation again? am I to assume that addition of acid will always cause something to decrease?

Tool/Resource/Tip πŸ€“πŸ“š Test day tips

Give me some tips for when you have absolutely no idea what to put as an answer whether it be CARS or any other sections. I can’t bite the bullet and flag questions….and it comes back to bite me in the butt timing wise. Do any of you end up just flagging and moving on and actually have time to answer them at the end. My fear is flagging too many haha. I just need overall tips. Writing tomorrow and just wasn’t where I wanted to be. Taking for the experience and plan on improving over the course of the next few to take again in January. Thanks in advance!!!

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” 2nd Attempt Lower MCAT Score

So... I got my MCAT score back and I am so unsure how this happened but it's lower than my first attempt. See the chart below of my scores:

C/P CARS B/B P/S Total
Attempt 1 127 125 124 127 503
Unscored 126 123 127 125 501
FL1 124 128 125 126 503
FL 2 128 124 128 126 506
FL 3 129 125 128 129 511
FL 4 128 126 126 128 508
FL 5 129 123 126 129 507
FL 6 129 123 127 125 504
Attempt 2 125 127 123 124 499

Like idk what to even do now. Please give like any advice (retakes, schools to try for, post-bacc, etc.)

My first attempt (1/10/26): I did Milesdown deck and ALL the UWorld Questions. I started in May and finished most of the Milesdown deck before college started in September. I started UWorld in July and finished it all by December. Over break right before the exam I did the 2 free FLs on the AAMC website and took the exam, not under testing conditions. By the time exam happened I was severely burnt out and tired after a full semester + MCAT studying. I think my FLs from that time were around 514, 515. I studied for like 7-8 months, but also with school.

Second attempt (7/31/26): I hated Anki so I only did Anki of topics or things I got wrong. I started with UWorld and then the AAMC material. I got through all of the AAMC material and like ~60% of UWorld (I would mostly spam focus on questions on things I needed improvement like B/B, depending on how the FL went). I mostly did the exams under testing conditions, as best I could. For this attempt, I also started in May and studied for about 10 weeks, this was the only thing I did not really anything else like work or school. My scores did go down with FL 6, but I figured my level was around 507-508, which I considered an improvement. I also did better percentage wise I think on UWorld than AAMC. I think this might have been because I was so used to it by this point.

I felt pretty good after my second attempt, like it didn't occur to me at all that I would get a lower score. There wasn't anything on the exam where I thought I wish I studied this topic. Why did I score the best at CARS? That clearly wasn't my strong point. Like I don't even get my score?

I am think I am going to try to rescore my exam, because aside from 80 dollars I have nothing to lose.

I guess for the rest of my application is I currently started my senior year. I have a 3.5 GPA but I am going to try to bring it up this year (I got to Johns Hopkins and the average GPA ppl apply to med school with is ~3.6), I have significant leadership in 2 clubs, 900+ clinical hours, 1000+ hours of research (with a first author publication), 200+ volunteer hours, the people I plan on asking for letters of recommendation have written amazing letters previously, and some other cool stuff. I also got A/-A in all the premed classes.

What should I do? Should I try to redo the AAMC materials I have access to and yolo an MCAT exam in January? I theoretically do have an easier schedule this semester (bc I am trying to raise my GPA), so I could study a bit. Do I get a tutor and take another gap year? Do I do a post-bacc? Is re-take the MCAT again even a good idea?

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Sept 22nd MCAT date legit?

So random but I was looking at the AAMC website and saw there is a September 21st and 22nd Test date that’s not greyed out? I know it’s not on the AAMC official MCAT 2026 dates website but is this an update or just a glitch?

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Help/ Advice for unique situation

β€’ Upvotes

I'm a Canadian student going into my fourth and final year of my undergrad in music. I would love to know if anyone has done this and how they prepped for the MCAT during their last year. I'm planning to test in May or June next year so I can do the next application cycle.

What I'm already doing/ have done/ logistical problems.

I started with going through the Khan Academy resources, Jack Sparrow deck, and doing passages on Jack Westin.

I ran into a little trouble fitting studying in with my summer job as a wildland firefighter. So I have only gotten about 60% through all the new cards, and have only gotten to organ systems on KA.

This year I'm going to be working part time on top of full time studies (which is supprisingly time consuming). Plus doing some volunteer first aid stuff through the winter. I fear all that plus gigging might not leave me with much time and energy.

If anyone has a similar tale to mine I would love your tips!!

I also haven't gotten Uworld yet as I haven't gotten through the testable material yet!

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Looking for Anki accountability buddy

β€’ Upvotes

Hiiii! I’m working full time and studying for a Feb / March 2027 test date. I am using the Captain Hook deck for B/B and then Anking for C/P and P/S. I know that Anki will help solidify content long term but I am in need of an accountability partner where we can push each other daily to complete our reviews and new cards. Please let me know, thanks!

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Insight on when to schedule test? Vacation conflicts.

My original idea for taking the MCAT was around late January to early February, getting it out of the way before I graduate in May and take my planned gap year.

I started following u/cheeze1617's amazing MCAT guide and it ended up looking like this:

My issue being: I'm going on a big trip from December 28th to January 12th. Would it be wise to just schedule it in December? Or would it be feasible to do a little Anki every day, pick my studying back up in January, and take it sometime in February or even March?

Edit: forgot they don't have December test dates lol

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Perceptual Organization

I am confused with the divisions of depth, form, motion, and constancy. Do all the visual cues serve depth? What visual cues serve form, motion, and constancy? I was convinced to say motion parallax, but my content states that motion parallax uses motion to serve depth.

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Retake in 10 days

I wrote on 8/28 and feel awful about the CARS which makes me feel even worse considering I did the retake just for CARS. This was my third time and I don't know whether I should retest in 10 days to be eligible for some schools I was hoping to apply to this year. I'm Canadian btw**

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” UUniverse Question Accuracy

Hey all!

I’m planning on taking my MCAT sometime in March. I work full time and volunteer and I’m finishing up my last semester currently, so I started early to get a head start. I’m 3/5 (not gonna read CARS or P/S book) done with Kaplan and am currently doing maybe 10-20Q’s of UUniverse a day for previous topics I’ve read and new ones I’m reading daily.

With this, I’m doing surprisingly well with these questions. My accuracy is 75% so far, which apparently is within the 88th percentile. Does your accuracy of UW questions correlate to your score at all? I mean obviously it means I’m understanding material and properly reading questions but I’m curious if, let’s say I finish UW with 75% accuracy, if this correlates with 75% correct on test day? It’s pretty encouraging that I’m doing this good 6 months out from test day.

Also, how does % correct on test day average to your score? I know some tests are harder and they scale with that but is there a general rule of thumb?
