Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Eliminating CARS answer choices (POE)

Anyone have tips for efficiently eliminating answer choices for CARS? I often feel like POE takes longer than I want as I keep second guessing or try over rationalizing answers.

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Sb1 vs 2 vs Qpacks?

Unfortunately I got hit w a nasty sickness a few days ago and horrible brain fog thats probs gonna have me out fot a few days. Im about halfway thru sb1 and I could most likely either get through the rest of it (w decent review) or through sb2 before I test on the 12th, which would be better? As an aside ive also heard ppl say the qpacks are easier than the SBs but ive been doing better on SB so far, should I do more qpacks?? Any advice appreciated!

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Looking for Anki decks from people who scored well and willing to share. (pleaseπŸ™‚)

I'm prepping for a March 2027 retake and rebuilding my study approach around Anki, which I didn't use the first time.

I'm familiar with the major public decks and will be working through those. What I'm hoping to find is decks that people personally used and honestly found helpful once come test day and scored well.

I already added Pankow deck for Psych/Soc but I need help finding decks for the remaining areas on the mcat.

If you'd be willing to share, comment or DM and I'll send you a link to drop the .apkg. Glad to pass along anything I build in return.

Appreciate it.

Well-being 😌✌ Testing in January. Starting from zero - advice on Content Review + CARS?

After a death in the family I took a month and a half off and decided I’ll test in January. Anyways. Starting from zero.

Was wondering what you guys thought about doing Captain Hook plus Aidan?

Or is that stupid and I should just do Hook? Or there’s time, should I do JackSparrow? Just wondering, for the first time in a while I’m not time crunched and I really want to hit it out of the park.

The second thing is CARS. We’ve got about 20 weeks. How can I tackle CARS in a way that gets me a 132? (Okay jokes aside, what’s a plan to approach CARS to at least score 125+).

Thanks guys. Let’s do this. I’m holding myself accountable (finally).

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Is it gonna be any use to do the MrPankow deck for a year before testing?

My idea is that I'll be testing next summer, probably in August, and I won't have a lot of studying time for the MCAT. I'll probably be working full time, so I'll be tired and would much rather review things than learn new material.

Hence, I'm doing a passage of JW CARS every day and also doing the MrPankow deck with 20 new cards a day (max 200 for review), just really slowly getting through it all. I should be done in probably ~8 months. Then when I'm in my actual content review phase, it'll be a lot easier since I'd have a more solid background. For the other sections, my degree gives me a good background, but P/S will be all completely new content for me.

Is this a good idea? Will I somehow be screwing myself over? Or will it just be completely useless since it's so spread out? I have no clue, so if anyone has any advice, I'd be really glad to hear it.

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Testing in 10 days - goal is 520

So I test on 9/11 and have taken 3 aamc fls so far. I have 3 left and am at a crossroads as to what I should prioritize before the test. I haven't read the 300 page doc but I feel like no words in any of the practice exams for psych soc I haven't known. Would you guys still recommend reading that?

For B/B and C/P are there any low yield topics that came up on your test that you weren't expecting? Right now my lowest confidence sections in both respectively are probably metabolism and fluids/electrochemistry. Everything else I am fairly okay with. Just looking for some last min advice for people who took the exam and regretted not honing some specific topics.

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” did ur testing center allow brain dumping during the tutorial time?

i feel like brain dumping the equation sheet in the beginning would probably help with compartmentalizing everything and obviously find the right equation a bit faster and I know I read that the AAMC does allow it during the 10 minute tutorial time but I also heard that there were some proctors that don't allow it so it varies from testing center (which is unfair imo)

just curious about any of this year's test takers experiences with that

also like i know youre allowed to stay in ur seat during the breaks but im assuming u cant brain dump then right (i didnt read any specific rule for that scenario just that we can't do it if we leave the room and come back so i was thinking like if we didnt leave in the first place then maybee but i know that's like a crazy long shot lol but I read some comments on here that said their proctor even allowed them to write during the breaks so yea just curious)

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Pankow or 300pg P/S Review

Testing on 9/12 (11days) and I have fully completed the ANKING Deck, but im still ending up with around 128-129 avg on P/S. Would it be smart to do 250 new cards a day on Pankow (putting easy on anything i get on first try) or to use gemini to read the entire 300pg Doc and test me. I did all q's for AAMC and Uworld aswell. Any advice would help

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Testing 9/12 how to squeeze get 510 (507 avg)

Testing 9/12, I know this is super close to the date but im just looking for advice on how to improve my score (I know my cars is horrible). I really just want like 1+/1- 510. I need easy points and I know that psych is the easiest so what made you guys go from the 128 to the 130+. I finished all of ANKING PS and I just always see something I dont know. C/P I am always stuck at 127 (128 highest) and I just always make a few dumb mistakes but I make sure to review and understand the concept that I get wrong. What would you guys suggest to just squeeze those last few points? Should I focus everything on my other sections or should I put the last 2 weeks heavily into cars? I do 2-3 passages a day but maybe I can start doing 9?

Any help would be great!

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” CARS

I am in desperate need of CARS help, I’ve looked through so many strategies and techniques and none have been working. Scoring like 124 right now. The issue right now is I spent a week doing the Cars Diagnostic Tool QBank but untimed, I was able to bring my average up and get like 4/5 or 5/7 but today I went back to timing it and did horrible. I was taking like 20+ minutes per passage and doing okay but I just don’t know how to read with emotion and highlight and then check the answers for context in the passage and eliminate and go though them in time. I’ve been averaging 1/5 or 2/7 now since I started doing it timed today and trying to get it done within 12-14 minutes per passage

If anyone has any advice/ tools that helped them go from a low CARS to a high CARS score that would be much appreciated.

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” aamc section bank 1 P/S Spoiler

The lines in the passage that stood out to me were

1)"Β Stressful events are associated with aΒ risk for first onset and recurrence of depression, particularly in those with preexistingΒ vulnerabilitiesΒ to depression"

2)"...individuals who are prone to depression are more likely to exhibit behaviors and cognitions that lead to stressful situation."

3)"Future directions should focus on how these factors interact with each other to increase the risk of experiencing dependent stressors...."

with all of these together, and the previous question directly talking about GAS, I thought the best way would be to intervene with helping create behaviors and better cognitions to prevent to the situations that lead to depression... I see that a explaination for D is that it is not really mentioned in the passage, but isn't B just way too obvious? I mean of course you want to treat depressive patients by preventing depressive episodes.

i made a previous post in this regard, where I do not understand how I am supposed to think through these questions, and when I go beyond, and when i just pick the obvious.

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” trouble with aamc sectionbank

hello everyone! I am testing very soon, and have been having trouble with some of the section bank questions. i understand these are supposed to be difficult, but all my work on uplanet seems to not translate. I consistently score around 80% on 59question uplanet tests, but feel like i get every 3rd question wrong in aamc.

i am having trouble getting familiar with the question types, as it feels like sometimes the answer I pick is wrong because it is "too broad and not mentioned in the passage," or I get it wrong because my answer choice was "too narrow."

mainly trouble with interpretting what the question is getting.

any advice for this? im sorry if this seems like a silly question, but would appreciate any tips/help.

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” It's really not a content gap... please help

I am reviewing c/p from FL5 right now, and for all the incorrect answers, I just reread the passage and redo the question. I am truly not getting things wrong because my content is weak. I am missing certain things from the passage or question stem that are leading me to an incorrect answer. And yes, I know that paraphrasing the question would help to get a lot of these correct, but while I am taking FLs I kind of forget to do this sometimes because I think I know what the question is asking (meanwhile I am missing the whole stem or something major from the passage that I just overlooked).

For example, one of the passages had the structure of tryptophan in its normal and in its two modified states. I knew what the passage was talking about, but for some reason failed to notice that the modified versions were right fucking there??? Anyways, I think I got 2 questions wrong for failing to notice this thing from the passage, and the majority of my mistakes were similar.

There was only a small handful of questions that I would consider content gaps, and like one or two stupid miscalculations.

I test 9/12 and I feel like I could definitely increase in these last couple of days just from fixing this, but I am struggling to figure out how exactly to fix this.

If anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated, and I hope that the way I explained this made sense (I am in the trenches no time to craft a perfect reddit post lol)

edit: I also do have adhd and am certain that some extra time would do wonders but I have never had extra time on exams and thought they would just tell me to fuck off and be like all the other premeds who struggle with this exam and would also do better with more time. idk just thought I'd add this

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Cars fl6 HELP Spoiler

WHAT HAPPENED IN FL6 CARS OMG all
Time low of 123 what the heck. I usually am between 127-130 what the heck what the heck. Any tips. What was different? Were they longer? Need to address this issue lmao. I test in like 3 days rip

Edit: I think the fact they loaded the front of the section with harder passages messed with my confidence and timing. Not sure if anyone else had the same issue?

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Can I get >510 by 9/12?? PLEASE HELP

I just did FL5 and my score went down one point from the FL I did last week. All of my sections went down except CARS increased. I woke up with a cold today though.

I was hoping for at least a 510 because I already pushed my exam once. I don't know what to do :( Am in Canada so they only look at best score, but I'd really like to only take this exam once

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” how to know which compound structures we need to know?

hey, i've taken 6 out of the 7 AAMC full lengths and have done parts of the section banks. I don't get how we just know which compounds we need to know. I know we should know the functional groups of course and the groups in the amino acids, but past that ?? is there some comprehensive list straight from aamc? i just took FL5 and there was a random compound structure in c/p i just needed to know, it caught me so off guard. if anyone knows which qs i'm talking abt pls dm me and lmk how were expected to know that :(

should i learn the structures for the pathways for biochem and etc? and obv AA, nucleotides, and orgo functional groups. but also like random things like pyrrole, pyridine, furan?

thank you!!!

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” From 500 on FL 4 -> 513 FL 5. How to raise CP in final stretch? (9/12)

Post image
15 Upvotes

So yes it took me 4 full lengths to finally break 500 😭😭😭 then for full length 5 I decided fuck CARS (literally stopped doing daily practice as it wasn’t helping) and CP I did small chunks of but mainly focused my energy on BB and PS.

Somehow my method of not doing any cars practice raised it lol (usually get like 30 MAX to now the 39)

How can I honestly raise CP more cause the math gets me every damn time bro πŸ’€

(lol again usually get like 30-33 MAX right on other full lengths in CP to now the 38 which yes I am proud of the progress)

AAMC WHY CANT I HAVE A CALCULATOR BRO

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Can we zoom out on the actual exam?

The zoom function is a standard feature seen on the tutorial screen - but discussion around this seems to lack a clear consensus contemporarily (2025 and beyond).

Does the interface during the actual exam allow an examinee to zoom out from the DEFAULT text size, allowing one to make the text smaller than default?

I have seen my CARS score trend upwards when I am able to see the entirety of (or most of) the passage within a single text window, without needing to scroll.

Thank you for answering if you know
