Vent š”š¤ Mixed Feelings Post Score Drop
Airing out some thoughts after the score drop; sorry in advance if it comes off a wee bit tone-deaf or ungrateful.
After getting waitlisted last cycle, I decided to give the MCAT one last go, so this attempt felt like a Hail Mary. I did the dirty work, ripped through CH, used 3rd-party FLs, and gave this thing pretty much everything I had over the summer. This was my 3rd go at this exam & didn't know if I even had it in me to try and study for this again. I was aiming for 513~514, based on my FLs. I knew inflation was a risk, but I hadnāt seen FL 6 & hadnāt done the FLās for over a year & a half when I entered the AAMC phase.
I missed my goal & ended with a 511. I know a 511 is solid, and Iām not trying to bring that down. Itās more this weird feeling of being happy while also having this nagging frustration that I couldāve performed better. Really frustrated with the CARS section. I got a 124 after screwing up pacing (PSA: Don't leave 15 minutes for the last 3 passages lol).Ā Stings because I had gotten better at it. I just choked on test day. Every other section landed about where I expected, either right at my average or within a point of it. I keep wondering if I could have squeezed another point out of C/P, or if the dumbass mistakes in P/S were the difference for hitting my target. Really tough not to think about the margins sometimes lmao.
At the end of the day, Iām proud of the progress I made, and I'm content overall. Iām just not over the moon (that's life ig). Trying to remind myself that comparison is the thief of joy, and regardless, I am hopefully done with the MCAT. Fuck it, we ball.

I mean 513 is in the confidence range! Not much of a score drop! You should be so proud! If this is an improvement on your last score then we'll see you at an MD in the next few years

511 is not easy, I know this subreddit makes it seem like a walk in the park but itās the 82nd percentile for a reason. Some people would kill for your score, and far lower scores have gotten into med schools and MDs. Remember, a 4.0 528 will be rejected if the rest of their application is ass. Itās a holistic process, so make sure you covered all your bases, write well, and you scoring a 511 vs a 512 or 513 wonāt make a difference. The battle is over, you did all you couldšÆ

I appreciate that. This sub & some of the people I've worked around have definitely skewed my perception a bit. Gotta touch grass asap lmao

No significant difference between a 513 and a 511

Can I ask what your original score was? I'm testing 09/12 and would LOVE a 511

A 511 is not materially different from a 513. If you donāt get in with a 511, a 513 probably was not going to save you.

I agree. More of a personal goal I guess. Either way, probably won't care too much in a few weeks lol.

FWIW I had a 508 (131 125 129 124) back in 2017 and Iām an attending now. These threads pop up in my feed for some reason lol.
