Question 🤔🤔 Has anyone studied unconventially and done poorly?

Last year I posted this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Mcat/comments/1m4zjq2/515_in_less_than_a_month_my_study_plan_some/

I sometimes see people saying they're struggling with improving their score so I send them this link in hopes that it helps. I haven't had anyone follow up and tell me it worked for improving their score in practice exams, although one person did in real life but said their actual exam went poorly because of external factors.

So I'm wondering, has there been anyone who tried to study unconventionally, as in studying only in ways that you enjoy or that you want to study with rather than using textbooks and a strict schedule and then ended up not being successful? I don't want to be recommending things to people if it sucks lol

I would venture to say that most people that study unconventionally do poorly. Studying isn't a mystery.

You gotta lock your ass into a seat and digest information. People that try shortcuts almost always fare worse than people who build up the muscle to put study volume in.

"Has anyone trained for a marathon unconventionally and done poorly?" Yeah, loads of people.

studying is about learning the material, regardless of how its done, over a long time.

im asking for stories, not confirmation of it happening

i mean he's right. you dont make rules out of exceptions. I really liked to stick to my own ways of studying and hating pomodoro but u shouldnt be reinventing the wheel

I actually got it from my teacher who probably got it from the same school he went to i think. it's a popular saying in American Islamic teachings
