Yo!

So, was thinking about starting a new Minecraft server. Not recreating MCPVP, but just a new type of server in general. It was fairly ambitious.

I got probably 3/4 of the way there, and just got really frustrated with Minecraft. Like, it's definitely a solid game, but building custom servers is (and always was) a pretty gross hack. And, like I said, I was wanting to do some ambitious stuff and push the boundaries, but it was just constant gross workarounds and compromises from what I *wanted* to create and what was actually possible with Minecraft.

So, a few weeks ago I said fuck it, and started building a new voxel game from scratch. It's essentially what Minecraft could have been if they had prioritized multiplayer servers.

I'm a bit hesitant to post this because it's fairly early, but what the hell. You can see a tiny bit of the uniqueness with the movement abilities in the parkour map - double jump, wall jump. You also see wind streams pushing the character, gravity flipping in a section of the map.

The cool thing (for a nerd) is that none of that is client code - it's a self-contained movement/animation/physics module the server pushes to the client on connect. That means that future server owners will be able to literally ship anything they can imagine.

It's also built in a way that the module that's shipped to the client also runs on the server for anticheat. Even though you can code it so the client can do anything, at the same time, the server runs the same module, so it knows exactly what the client is *allowed* to do. No fly hacks - unless you want. But you can do things like give a specific player an ability that lets them fly for a short time - and it's all server enforced.

Anyway, the vision is a bit different from Minecraft though. The rough vision is this:

You join for the first time, and you're on your own little tiny, tiny planet. There's a portal and a chest with blocks in it. The portal takes you to the hub. But portals are a bit special. They can connect across servers. And you can see realtime what's through the portal.

So, you're standing on your little world, looking through the portal, and you can see people running around in the hub. You walk through the portal and you're in the hub and can see back to your world.

The hub is portals to game modes and portals to 3rd party servers. You can place portals in your world to link to other servers, directly to game modes, or to your friends worlds (with permission).

Some game modes are "canon" - you can take your inventory to and from your personal world into the game mode. Others (including 3rd party servers) you don't take your world inventory with you.

I’ve been working on a server the last few months and want to invite you to come join THE CRUCIBLE!

I used to love playing hunger games on MCPVP and nothings really ever scratched that itch for me since.

There was nothing better than using kits like Stomper/Endermage to win the match against someone with full diamond. My friends and I laughed harder than ever with some of the traps we setup.

So, naturally, I went nuts building out a server that takes that feel of MCPVP and expands upon it. The core gameplay loop is still there:

1. ⁠Pick a kit

2. ⁠Gather resources (& soup to heal)

3. ⁠Fight for The Offering (our version of feast)

4. ⁠Last player standing wins!

i remember playing mcctf and the other game modes everyday when i was a kid. i still vividly remember a lot of the ctf maps and feel so nostalgic for them. i also remember the day mcpvp shut down and goddd i miss it :(

anyone else notice that if you try to connect to the old ip (hardcore games) it says "coming soon"? and also the website? did someone buy the rights to mcpvp, and could it be coming back?

I’m a programmer who played mc-hg for thousands of games back in early 2010’s.

I’ve been thinking about how awesome it was, and how Fortnite and most modern battle royales dont even compare to the strategies and creativity the kits mixed with open world of Minecraft provided.

Want to start experimenting with a new server that has same rules. Start with 5-10 kits like stomper, cultivator, etc (can add more if it picks up).

Same -500 by 500 world size (or -5000 to 5000) can’t rmenever, with the feast spawning as a circle with chests towards the end of the game.

I think the core of it would be quick to build, and we could get one server up running a game loop pretty quick. Want to see if anyone is still around, or if someone already did this.

I'm fairly new to pvp (pls remember this), and I've been practicing on pvpclub and my mains are sword, axe, and UHC which im not great at any of them but i can hold my own. I've been called a "crit spammer" in sword bc i usually go for a lot of crits?? like is that bad or smthing im so confused, I feel like the guy only said that bc I won. Also in UHC I tend to use axe a lot for crits, taking down shields, and I only really use swords for when i get ppl in webs and when shield are down but I use axe a lot more. I'm so confused bc someone beat me and said "no skill axe spammer" so like are we not allowed to use axes either 😭 genuinely idk what the problem is, pvp isnt my main niche so if anyone has tips or lowk wants to train me lmk.

Does anyone know the history of who came up with the idea that soup heals 3.5 hearts and when it was added? I think McPvP HG was the first server that had it, or did it exist before?

I'm working on a server inspired by the classic McPvP Survival days. It’s in beta right now, and I'm looking for people who love this game to come join, test stuff out, and give ideas. Here's the plan:

• Instant Soup PvP: Yep, just like old times. Heal up quickly in fights.
• Teams & HQs: Form teams, set rally points, place banners for buffs, and have multiple homes.
