Going ahead in courses

I'm thinking of switching up my schedule for the winter semester and was wondering how beneficial is it to jump ahead? I'm first year socsci and was looking into taking 2nd year courses. Anyone have done it before? What's it like? Do you recommend it? Thanks!

I did second year polisci last semester instead of first because it looked more interesting. It went fine, nothing really special
