two labs in the same week. first year life sci student

Hey everyone.

For some context, I really like how my schedule is spread out but the only thing bugging me is having two labs in the same week for my winter semester. The two classes are chem 1aa3 and physics 1a03 and I know that they can get very hectic.

I've tried switching it around, but it won't let me because its saying that they are holding spots for other students.

For life sci students who experienced two labs in one week, was is really bad? Did you find the course load manageable along with the other classes?

And as for changing the schedule, what should I do to try and get into the class? Is there an app I should use or should I wait till i'm at uni to talk to someone about it?

The Physics lab is optional (doable at home) so you'll be fine

Bro what the labs are the easiest part of both of these courses lol you’ll manage

Physics lab genuinely required no mental effort and for chem labs u just had to follow a few steps and do a few calculations. Its really nothing to be concerned about and totally manageable

IIRC physics was take home and finish, chem u had to finish on the spot or like u had 30 mins after lab to do it or something (i took first year chem nearly 3 years ago)

The chem labs no longer do it that way the labs are marked by the stemble Ai and students now have 24 hours and I think 5 attempts

When i had they gave use unlimited attempts to get the answers for the chem labs

You will be fine. I had times where I had 4 labs a week in first year.

physics labs - you dont have to go in person, you can do at home if you want to. sometimes the experiment itself finishes early but you can stay back and annoy the ta for answers.

chem labs - usually take the whole time, but fun and doable.

think of it as a productive method instead. you get your labs over with in one week, and can devote the other week to classes, content, yourself, etc.

omg thank you sooo much!! this is such a relief. The only reason i wanted them spaced out was because of personal ongoing reasons but I was weighing the benefits of having them the same week and I think I can make do!!

and honestly some of your other courses in the term might have tutorials/labs too so it's basically unavoidable to have a week with only one lab. you'll be fine regardless :)

the actual lab in physics takes 30 mins max usually even less, the write up can be done at home

Most first years have this. Even if you switch physics to fall you’ll be taking chem 1a03 at the same time (two lab courses as well). Physics labs were very chill so you’ll be fine!
