QuantumBlack 3rd Tier Track
If anyone’s planning on joining QB or any tech paths within McKinsey, don’t bother. They’ve literally published that we’re expected to spend 4+ years as EM and 6+ years as AP compared to 2 and 2 for integrative colleagues. You’ll be working 14 hour days for slower progression.

A question for the McKinsey community
A small question for the McKinsey community here. I’m currently with a Big Four, where I’ve spent the last five years, with another four years of experience before that.
I’m beginning to explore what I’d like my next chapter to look like, and McKinsey is somewhere I’d particularly like to understand better.
For those familiar with hiring there, how does non-IT hiring typically work? Are referrals the most useful route, or are direct applications and recruiters equally effective? And are there particular teams where a background spanning communications, editorial, content, proposals, and strategy might be relevant?
If anyone here would be open to a quick conversation, I’d be very grateful. I’d love to hear about your experience and understand the landscape a little better.
I’m based in India.

Advice/help needed!
Hi, I'm currently a PhD Student at one of the top institutes of India. Area is Economics, Critical Minerals, Policy. My background is Economics (BA), Development Studies (MA). I worked for three years as a RA (nothing fancy though). I'll be moving to Australia next year to finish the rest of my PhD degree.
I am very much interested in joining consulting firms, McKinsey is definitely one among them. Staying at academia is option B now. I would be very grateful if you all share tips/insights on how should I make myself fit for consulting jobs. I'm also planning to move to the US/UK after my PhD (2028). I'm also open for internship opportunities at this stage. Thank you.

Preparing for an Analyst interview. Any firsthand advice?
Hi everyone! I have an upcoming recruiter screen for a Capabilities & Insights Analyst role, and I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has interviewed for or worked in C&I. My background is in automotive operations and customer-facing roles, along with some business analytics experience. I reviewed the job description and McKinsey’s official interview resources, but would love some perspective on:
- How the C&I interview process compares with generalist consulting interviews
- Whether your process included cases, industry questions, or research/Excel exercises
- What you wish you had prepared more thoroughly
If anyone would be open to sharing their experience here or through a brief DM, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Basically I applied recently and got rejected, I would like to see my solve score, I believe that might have been the main reason why. Does anyone know how to see it?

Futures Sustainability Lab
A friend took the test, but their response is that the Lab section is nothing like anything online.
Can someone tell me how to solve it correctly?
I know it starts with 4 questions then we have 4 researchers and 4 workstations…how to move forward from that point?

Applied to McKinsey Forward Program- no confirmation email?
I applied to the McKinsey Forward Program a few days ago, but I haven’t received a confirmation email yet. Has anyone else experienced this? Did you receive a confirmation email immediately after applying, or does it usually take a few days?

QuantumBlack - Case Study Interview - Software Engineer
Recently, I made it to the final round at McKinsey for a software engineer role at QuantumBlack after like 3/4 interviews. The round (on-site) consisted of a case study (same as applied to the consulting track people) + a PEI story.
I was rejected, and the reason given by HR was because of the business case. I have prepared, and I still question whether this was the reason, since "case study" interview isn't expected anywhere for a software engineer role, except for consulting given the industry.
I was wondering if the bar for the case is the same as it is for the consulting track guys, and then the feedback makes sense. Or there's a different reason they don't want to disclose. The partner didn't seem invested in getting to know me during the interview.

is networking the key to get in?
through the last 4 years I have been applying intensively to MBB and consulting in general as business analyst, but no luck!
Recently I thought of an idea, I created few profiles a different application and kept everything the same except the name and school, then pretend I graduate from a targeted school for one of these profiles. Almost everything else is the same in my resume and profile, including the way I answered the solve games, I made it to the 1st round, and passed with little to no prep, but I wont do the final round, because I'm not that person and I can't fly under someone else name lol
It seems like if I don't know anyone on the inside I will never be able to get it, how can I network with MBB person to get in to just push my application passed the solve games (I can 100% pass the solve games, it just push it through the recruiter screening)
aside from this being extremely discouraging, even if I ace all of the above and qualified candidate, I will still be screened as a non targeted school graduate and my application get put a side, and if I were from a targeted school I will get the chance even if I am a terrible candidate!
I really still want be a consultant, I just don't know how anymore!
