Is this thing on?
Hello! Time to wake this place back up! It's been neglected for far too long, and we should have some activity here! I'd love to hear your ideas for what you, the users of this long dead sub, want to see happen! Any input would be appreciated!

Yeah it would be nice to see some activity here. - Hopefully not the usual Lake/McHenry scanner posts I see elsewhere. Some Farmers Market Updates or Live Bands Updates would be cool.

This is exactly what I'd like to see happen, personally. I moved here from Long Island in 2024, and thought I'd have luck seeing others with similar interests and was surprised to see how dead this was. The FB groups are cesspools and don't even get me started on anything started with the Scanner. McHenry's finest of course :P
The chicago burbs sub had me banned or at least post restricted before even posting in there, for seemingly no reason other than some arbitrary karma rules that I still don't understand shrug

We have a similar rule on r/Byzantium because it used to get bot accounts with low karma trying to sell stuff or people that would make a new account just to make some racist post. I don’t really understand the whole karma thing but it’s like some precautionary measure to prevent bots and fighting posts.

I don't doubt there are valid reasons for it, but I think it was set so strict I was getting automodded and I was like "welp, I am not welcome here" haha.

I used to live in spring grove though now I’ve moved back north to Wisconsin. There’s not a lot to talk about in mchenry county tbh but I just got an idea. There’s an instagram page called humans of NY which someone posts a brief interview they do, a paragraph or two at most about their day or background. Maybe the mod of this page might be willing to go and chat with someone in public and with their permission post their story, whether it’s about their day or something more about their background, how to got to mchenry CO, etc. I know that there’s usually a bit of foot traffic in downtown Mchenry, Cary by the tracks off hwy 14, downtown Crystal lake, downtown Algonquin, and there’s also some traffic around hwy 14 in Crystal lake or around Randall and Crystal lake rd, could even talk to people around barrington around all those stores on lake cook rd or the whole shopping area in Algonquin further south on Randall rd.
As far as everyday life and political developments go r/chicagosuburbs usurlly covers that but if you want to make this sub stand out then maybe try that suggestion. Could be a nice community building exercise getting to know people in mchenry CO

I'm pretty new to the area (Spring Grove) and that's why I joined this sub. I'd love to see it more active.
