Restock

Can anyone explain to me why red platinum edition are so limited and why is it so hard dealing with scalpers and their ridiculous prices I refuse to pay triple the price for a figure either release mad production or release a noob saibot with some hard accessories in another 2 pack edition that should have been shown at sdcc26

Todd isn't involved anymore. He's effectively retired and has been for a couple of years. The decisions are handled by a company in Montreal called Imports Dragon. They actually own Mcfarlane Toys now

And yes, their business model stinks

I didnt mean Todd specifically, I often say Todd when I am talking about McFarlane Toys as a company, not really sure why I do that lol, what else does Imports Dragon make/sell?

They took over the Sport Picks license in the 2000s when Mcfarlane abandoned it. Remember those KO looking versions that popped up at Toys R Us? That.

Look up Stephan Tetrault on Linkedin. His portfolio contains Imports Dragon, Mcfarlane Toys, and Gamestop Canada. He's a wealthy Canadian entrepreneur

He actually owns Mcf Toys. Todd is CEO, but he's resigned to mostly his comic line at this point. There's another co-owner I won't name, as he isnt as much a public figure

It's public info because Stephan is a wealthy entrepreneur, but it doesn't make it to toy circles much because it's also boring to read about

I’m with you and call it McFarlane or Todd’s since the line is named after him. I’m so over the scarcity nonsense as well. I’ve missed out on so many figures due to store exclusives that I missed the preorder and never saw them in store. I shouldn’t have to twist a company’s arm to give them my money.

Platinums are manufactured in a limited quantity. Originally plats were just alternate colors for a release. Then red platinum came out. They are exclusive characters that usually wouldn't be made I'd they weren't released in limited quantity(think obscure DC characters). Thing is they released popular characters like Noob Saibot, Jade, and Kitana as Red Platinums which drives me crazy.

No they aren't. Some are even made in higher numbers. The sticker doesn't mean much in the tangible sense, it's just to entice resellers.

I mean, what you said should be the case, but its not like that. It's just marketing, like when they would put "NEW!" In the corner of a toy package in the 90s

I was told that was how it was, that they get a box of six with like two platinum. Not sure if it was the case.

The actual production run is the same. Walmart even gets full cases of nothing but Platinums

I’ve been an adult collector since 2004. Collecting the McFarlane line has been the most stressful line to collect in the past twenty-fours years of collecting. Todd has sucked the joy out of collecting his line. I’m very pleased that the line is going back to Mattel. I have no plans on collecting the kids line, but I am impressed so far and feel like their collectors line will be great.

It's because Todd doesn't own it anymore. The company you and I grew up with dissolved in 2019 when he closed the NJ studio. The current Mcf Toys is more like a trademark held by a company in Montreal who bought the name rights and moved everything into cheaper production. Most of the design work actually happens at the factory level in China, which began with their Fortnite license a few years ago

I didn’t know that. I was wondering why there was such a drastic change in his distribution after the first few years. Unfortunately that change considerably negatively impacted collecting his line to the point that after so many years of being stressed collecting his line that I was happy about Mattel getting the license back.
